Tried this on my gt3 a number of years back. Absolutely kills the low end torque. Ended up modding the mufflers by welding in a bypass pipe. Improved the exhaust note slightly but had no negative effect on torque.
Now you have to reset the ECU to teach-in the new exhaust conditions, otherways the engine is not running optimal. To reset the ECU you just have to disconnect the battery (negative terminal from battery) for 10-15 minutes. All data (air/fuel ratio, ignition, valve timing and control, idle speed) will now be new measured, processed and optimized.
Jay Moo it doesn’t Support the time with the engine once you delete all the back pressure those mufflers create! I’m not sure that disconnecting the battery will change the Tune though????
I am very happy to see a very very happy guy with this simple mod. This is one of the few sincere and not “company promoted” videos I have ever seen. You can understand this by the happiness of your face when you step on the pedal after the muffler delete. Congrats, enjoy and thank you for sharing. Enjoy each and every drive of your car.
Sounds great, but $500 is a lot of money for 2 pieces of bent stainless steel. Leaving the cats means it's not straight piped, just muffler delete. Still, you're the one who needs to be pleased, and you are.
I did this to my Carrera S for two weeks, the drone was terrible at 55-65. Actually made you physically sick and I used to race Mazda rotaries which are crazy loud. The Porsche PSE is the way to go.
I love loud exhaust but i kept mine for maybe a month. Couldnt take the drone and loss of low end torque. Went with gundo hack and 200 cell cats and that was amazing
Tried multiple configurations on my 997.2 C2S, this one as well. Had the local shop bend up some pipe. Hated the sound. Tried Gundo hack didn't like that. Then tried Gundo with center muffler delete (each side completely isolated) no bueno either. Finally settled on the FVD Brombacher side mufflers (no valves) with their center muffler delete (X pipe that connects both sides). Not cheap but sounds great! Quiet at cruise, almost a flat plane V8 sound at light load lower rpms, no droning, and a pissed off GT3 sound at full throttle.
Even at a muffler shop at a shitty muffler shop that is cost hundreds couldn’t imagine for a Porsche as well straight piping (muffler resonator delete) in my 2009 535i cost 250 with a 20$ tip & the welds were horrible & used hideous pipes. Always go for a catback exhaust & modify that
It’s a great mod. I went the eBay route and it was a good decision. I paid $120 I think and the fitment was legit as was the chrome on the tips. I love my fapspeed carbon intake but I couldn’t do $600 for the tips. Don’t forget the 2 1/8” exhaust clamps. The sound is bananas.
Dude your Porsche sounds amazing!!! Great job on your videos they are very enjoyable and easy to watch. You make me want to buy a Porsche more and more now haha. Don’t stop filming lol.
Such a fun mod. I have muffler deletes on my Subaru and I’m about to do the same to my 911. There’s little to no performance gain beyond the weight savings, but definitely worth it.
You were cracking me up, you has so much fun, it was more interesting watching your reaction than listening to what you had to say about the muffler delete lol nice video.
Anytime you work on exhaust systems you have to expect broken bolts. The the bolts are generally not high quality but low quality with high iron content. So couple with moisture from the air and heat, the bolts and deteriorate. And they rust BIG TIME. Use a penetrating solvent like PB-BLAST or DeepCreep.
what about the fuel sensors and monitors ? do they self adjust? sounds great !!! You need to mention what the header manufacturer advises along with their system.
I have a 2006 Porsche cabrio that i LOVE!! I added the fabspeed exhaust and the carbon fiber intake. BEST thing I've done..... Sounds amazing!!!!! Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see the next Mod and video.
Very nice. I had ordered the same pipe system from fabspeed but they screwed up my order and I got a downpipe for a bmw m3. So I canceled the order and sent my mufflers to Fister and had the mod done and a beautiful polished ceramic coating done. They look great and sound is ok on throttle and not noticeable on cruising at all. Which is nice when I need to be relaxed. I still think I may do the fabspeed pipe and get it louder. I don’t care if it’s loud. It’s a Porsche and it’s meant to be heard. I think I need to compare both in person. Sometimes video clips don’t really translate the sound like being there in person. Sometimes I feel like the noise I’m hearing inside the cabin is too whimpy but I know it’s not like that outside of the car. Thx for the video.
My neighbors and their neighbors hate me for the muffler delete on my 993TT. Fabspeed told me there is little to no drone. Well, I have never experienced more drone in my life. Is ridiculous. I expected some increase in drone but this is crazy. Gut your own mufflers and reinstall them RS stlye. Cold start in my car is freaking loud popping and growling waking up people in the am, then coming down the street at 2 or 3 am knowing you just woke everybody up is not so cool. Is fing loud, even through the turbos and cats. I coast at idle not to piss everyone off on my street, but they can already here me coming a block away. Lol. Sounds like a giant fart machine when you step on the throttle, I don't like it at all.
Did that for my 996 c4s with fabspeed muffler bypass pipes, drove it for 4 years and loved every bit of it, i reinstalled the mufflers now since my wife never stopped complaining abt how loud it is lol
Thanks for the nice review. Very comprehensive and well formatted. Good quality film and audio. Not sure if I would go for it or not but good to know. Cheers
I have these pipes. They are WAY too loud for the character of the car. They aren’t the loudest thing out there; straight piped Harley’s are louder, muscle cars with dumps are louder, etc. Also, they sound like garbage below 3,000 RPMS. I too wanted something louder and looked at the price of these exhausts and thought they were ridiculously expensive and took the cheap route. In the end, I took my stock mufflers and had the “Fister” mod done by a local shop.
KosmicHaynerRacingTeam it is an order of magnitude less loud, but still surprisingly loud when you get on it. The sound is similar to the deletes at full tilt. Idle is a bit louder and more pronounced. The biggest difference is at part throttle, it totally gets rid of the deletes worst attributes. I experienced the deletes set off a car alarm backing out of a parking space. With the mod it isn’t much different than stock. Also, the deletes just plain sounded like a junk car with no exhaust at part throttle and low RPM. The mod totally mitigates this effect. In all but full racing applications the mod is way better.
Well I have to agree with the bulk of the replies - it now sounds like a cheap car, gone is the discreet nature of the 911, welcome to the boy racer. I replaced my standard system as the original had rotted out. To be honest I was rather pleased as it allowed me to find a decent sports exhaust. I finally went for a system which came from Design 911 here in the UK. Fitting was frustrated by rusting bolts but worst of all was the manifold studs which broke at the first turn. I ended up drilling out the bolts and fitting Timeserts, these are so much better than other things such as Helicoils. I found it easier to remove the rear bumper to gain access which in itself is an easy task. The end result is extremely pleasing. Muted enough not to disturb my neighbors but loud enough when pushed through the gears. In fact it comes with the most perfect bark at high revs along with the occasional pop and bang on deceleration. Personally I couldn't drive your car without the mufflers, OK for a laugh but that's where it ends - put the mufflers back on, if only to hear that amazing air intake. Rich
It sounds like your super stoked , and pumped ,, you sound loaded and excited to make this video ,, it sounds exciting , Im pumped and I have not even watched it yet ,,
When you have rusted bolts, heat the bolt with a small torch and melt some candle wax into the rusted threads. The wax sucks right in and they come apart no problem. BTW - Porsche cat back stock exhaust systems suck big time. First thing to replace on every Porsche.
I straight piped my 1999 Boxster and it sounds amazing. I have no cats and won't pass emissions but I saved the stock muffler if I need to go through emissions again. It does drone between 2,500 and 3,000 rpm and it is LOUD.
I was thinking that to. Hell i think the subby boxer 4s sound better. Hell the 500 abarth has a better exhaust note. Then again i have a viper so what do i know about exhaust note lol.
Great video, in my opinion it's a Porsche 911 and already looks and sounds great in stock condition. (but I am 52 years old, and if I were your age, I would probably love the straight pipes as well.) Thanks for the video.
If it makes you happy with this mod then mission accomplished and enjoy it! However, speaking from my own experience, you may regret this modification in the near future, but maybe not. Drone can be bad to your health, usually headaches after a short or long ride. I think the stock sound as designed by Porsche is better in my opinion. Good luck either way. Your passion for cars is great.
Absolutely sounds incredible. Btw, I’ve watched a lot videos with cold start ups, “I straight piped” my whatever etc., but, what I have come to find is that the only real way to tell how loud a car is is by how much you can hear your voice OVER the sound of the exhaust. Just my two cent observation. Anyone have thoughts on this?
I understand what you're saying, because there is really no frame of reference. Even with someone talking, there is a lot of variables but I think you're on to something there especially with where the mic is positioned and what not. When I first started it I talked into the camera about warming the car up and I think that gives you some perspective as to how loud it is haha.

I watched this to get (yet another) demo on muffler removal. Excellent job with the right amount of visual detail. Wonder how it will be hoisting the heavy stock (but Fister modded) mufflers back into place and installing them.
great! questions deleting the muffler is okay? for when it comes to inspections? Do you need the back muffler on when it comes the time for inspection? and how much does it cost? and any effects on gas consumption? thanks in advance.
That car had to have a resonator installed in the intake to meet Euro noise standards as it was too loud in stock form. Mine is quite loud in stock form.
Sounds Terrible if you ask me!!! One thing I’m surprised you did. That’s paying 500.00 dollars for two pieces of 90degree bent pipe. Why not go on the old interweb and buy a piece of stainless pipe that is bent to 180 degrees. Cut it right in the middle and call it good????
11:01 I know you were going about 90mph because the wing pops up at 90. My Grandpa has a black 99 carrera 4s, that's how I know and hello from Columbus 😀
Fun fact: all cars with bolts that have aluminum shine is actually a cover. If you ever strip a bolt, just use a screw driver and pry off the cover to reveal the unstrippable steel bolt.
One of the attractive things about a Porsche is that it is very fast AND quiet. Only americans believe that speed requires a lot of noise. Some of the fastest cars in the world don't make much noise.
If you're not much of a wrench and just want to hear what it sounds like, skip to 9:06 Spoiler alert, it's LOUD.
EatSleepDrive thanks for the time index!
great video and sound. and guy too.
EatSleepDrive that's the bad part of living in Europe... you can NOT do this kind of mods....
😕
EatSleepDrive will this fit a 997.1 turbo
Great sound, but you forgot the 2nd muffler on the passenger side...
Tried this on my gt3 a number of years back. Absolutely kills the low end torque. Ended up modding the mufflers by welding in a bypass pipe. Improved the exhaust note slightly but had no negative effect on torque.
Your gt3 is turbo’d? I thought all Gt3s were NA.
@@cyber_person no turbo. Correct, Gt3s are NA
11:04 - I'm really glad you managed to drag off that Prius
Had me going there for a moment..
Nice! Really increased the SPG = Smiles Per Gallon. Congrats!
Sounds good. Nice easy installation. Easily reversible.
Overpriced at $500 for 2 bends, but relatively cheap as far as 911 exhaust upgrades go ☺
Now you have to reset the ECU to teach-in the new exhaust conditions, otherways the engine is not running optimal.
To reset the ECU you just have to disconnect the battery (negative terminal from battery) for 10-15 minutes.

Rick2010100 thank you!! Geez folks. Next video...I installed a k&n intake...and my hp decreased.
I thought a muffler is not monitored by the ecu so it doesnt matter??
You don’t have to do that, especially if you have a tune loaded that supports the exhaust
Jay Moo it doesn’t Support the time with the engine once you delete all the back pressure those mufflers create!
I’m not sure that disconnecting the battery will change the Tune though????

He says in the intro that it was provided by fabseed as in they gave it to him for free so not sure what you're talking about.
Sounds great, but $500 is a lot of money for 2 pieces of bent stainless steel. Leaving the cats means it's not straight piped, just muffler delete. Still, you're the one who needs to be pleased, and you are.
Michael S exactly. An exhaust shop can make it for $100
Yea, not straight piped. Center muffler is still in place as well as the cats.
Michael S of course, but we all know saying straight pipe will get ya more views than muffler delete
I did this to my Carrera S for two weeks, the drone was terrible at 55-65. Actually made you physically sick and I used to race Mazda rotaries which are crazy loud. The Porsche PSE is the way to go.
racekar80 what is the porsche PSA?

Thanks for that. my Cayman S came with PSE. Glad to know the correct mod for me is....push the button :D
I did the secondary muffler bypass mod to my 997.2 S back in 2013... still running the mod.. actually really improves performance...you will see..
Did you delete the center muffler too?
I love loud exhaust but i kept mine for maybe a month. Couldnt take the drone and loss of low end torque. Went with gundo hack and 200 cell cats and that was amazing
Well done video, good info and presented well. Not a fan of the sound, but it is cool to see how happy you are with it! Cheers and enjoy brother.
Your promoting two $10 pipes bent to fit, for a company that charges a few hundred bucks.

I understand what you're saying, because there is really no frame of reference. Even with someone talking, there is a lot of variables but I think you're on to something there especially with where the mic is positioned and what not. When I first started it I talked into the camera about warming the car up and I think that gives you some perspective as to how loud it is haha.
Very true
Use high impact sockets and wrench for the rusted bolts. Helps greatly.

and how much does it cost? and any effects on gas consumption?

Doesn't matter, as long as Harley Davidson bikes making more noise than this, you can make your car noisier. It's only fair.
