So the reason for Nekoma still getting a second chance even though they lost to Fukurodani is because Tokyo Prefecture can have 3 teams at the Nationals, unlike the prefecture that Karasuno is from(Myiagi), that can only have one. I assume some prefectures are allowed to have more representative teams if they have a very big population or there is a bigger concentration of schools with great volleyball teams in their region.
Tokyo is allowed 2 representatives because they are such a large region, plus an additional one because they're hosting this year.

So a fun fact about Nekoma, it's common with teams that are displayed as offense powerhouses to be displayed as birds like Karasuno being crows, Shiratorizawa being an eagle, and Fukurodani being Owls, but because Nekoma lack offensive power and solely rely on receiving and the counter to offensive power is solid receives they are portrayed as cats,

I think this is largely coincidental. Inarizaki is a powerhouse school and is not bird-themed. Mujinazaka and Itachiyama are both powerhouse schools that each have one of the nation's top 3 spikers, and they're not bird-themed either.

They are smart and flexible, they adapt and fit where ever they are put ( lol talk about cats ) the more you play against them the more hard it is to score, their balance is amazing too from stable recieving to a flawless set to a powerful hit, talk about the blockers as well, Balance wise Nekoma are no.1 !!!
Tokyo is a very large prefecture, so they're alloted 2 spots every tournament. They're allowed 1 additional spot because they are also hosting this year, which brings their total to 3. Also, most teams have animal themes. If you think some of the characters look like certain animals, it's likely because their school's team name/mascot is that animal. Nohebi does indeed contain the word "hebi" which means snake, and Fukuroudani includeds "fukurou" which means owl.

Nitpicky but technically Bokuto doesn’t mean horned owl. Horned owl is ‘mimizuku’. It’s just written with the kanji 木兎 which is the same as how Bokuto spells his name. So it’s more like his name is a pun for horned owl. His name literally means something like tree rabbit.
As opposed to say Kageyama(影山) who’s name literally means shadow (影kage) mountain (山 yama)
For the spring tournamnet Tokyo gets three representatives: this year it gets one extra for hosting the event.
For clarification, Tokyo gets two representatives (based on prefecture size) plus one for hosting the event

@@TheFiddler69 Itachiyama placed 1st in this tournament. I think they're one of the best schools in the country, because they actually won last year, iirc, so they have a high seed in this year's Spring Tournament.
They still think some coaches are useless because they don't seem to say anything to their team...? Completely missing the point again smh. The show literally showed you how, for example, Seijoh's coach was about to give advice but Oikawa took the words right out of his mouth before he could. It shows you how good the players have been trained and they can think for themselves, meaning the coaches are doing their job right.
Exactly. The reason why Ukai is so hands-on is because Karasuno is a fledgling team. Even the current 3rd yrs never experienced a coach. The rest of the strong teams we know have been groomed by their coaches since their 1st yrs.
Ukai even pointed out how advanced Seijoh was when they lost in S1; that the mark of a strong team is when they hardly need their coach to brainstorm strategies. Ultimately, that is the goal of being a mentor/teacher/coach - to make your students be able to stand without you.
Exactly. And this kind of thing is why I sometimes get irritated watching bigger groups do reactions as opposed to one or two people. Groups spend more time arguing, talking among themselves, laughing at what each other are saying, and they end up missing a LOT of smaller (and sometime big) details and story plots, and they never fully "get it".
Haven't seen this OVA till now although I'm a manga reader, and it's great to see how they showed glimpses of Yaku's brilliance as a libero.
I personally love the OVA's in this show, I think it really comes down to the purposeful character and world-building within the first 2 seasons, really makes you feel invested in other characters as well as making the show feel somewhat more realistic
Tokyo has 2 representatives each year because the prefecture is big. So no matter who wins in Tokyo finals, Fukurodani and Itachiyama are automatically included to Nationals. But this year there's a 3rd slot because Tokyo's hosting the Spring Tournament so who ever wins the 2nd match would be the 3rd representative which means that Nekoma still has a chance of getting in to Nationals.

What I observed about nekoma :
Nekoma is a very smart and strategic team, just like seijoh, but much more flexible and adaptable( well they are the cats), also their recieving is so stable, that the setter ( kenma) doesnt have to do hard work, no matter what ball is thrown at them they will manage to receive it skilfully, give their setter a very stable ball, where the skilled setter sets a nice careful ball to the powerful hitters to finish, they are balanced, Nekoma doesnt have a player who stands out bcs they emphasize " team work" more than anything ( that will be explained the ep2 of the OVA ) they flow .
Okay the last part is only what I observed you are free to add or deny what I say .

Thanks for reacting as always! I loved, loved, loved this episode! It really shows Bokuto deserves his title of 4th best spiker in the country, and Nekoma are no slouches when it comes to putting on pressure.
Bokuto's spike angle is scary.
Tokyo gets 3 teams in the spring tournament so fukorodani after winning against nekoma they got into the tournament with the other team that made the finals and the other to teams that lost the semi play to determine the third team to go to the spring tournament

I like how all of the teams, or at least most of them are based on animals, and even the coach in each team feels like a member of that group.
If you haven’t already, I think you guys would love watching Ping Pong the animation! It’s a super unique and stylish sports series in its own right. The entire soundtrack is straight 🔥 as well. It will make you want to play ping pong like Haikyu makes you want to play volleyball!

Haikyuu's LvA and Path of the Ball OVAs have importance for s4. It's not a "waste of time," as you say, but maybe if you read the manga or watched the anime, you'd know that. What is a "waste of time" and of space is this unnecessary comment.🤡
