Prof has been independent since 2020. His last album Horse was 8th in sales worldwide, any genre (Billboard) That's pure fan support, no label promotion. You definitely want to check him out. He raps, sings, makes beats, is a legendary live performer. Loved for his humor and originality, wacky videos, and super-sized personality. Also has very hard-hitting songs. And is an painter! I identify as a renegade lol - there is definitely some fan crossover.
Imagine just finding Prof in 2024. There are so many bangers.
I found Prof through this collab, and am so very thankful for it. Been playing his music almost non-stop for two weeks!
I just found him in March, his Live from the Gallery performance of High Priced Shoes where he literally says "I'm in your algorithm, scroll past immediately!" 🤣 Sooooooo glad I didn't!

Trust me, Prof is a monster. And he's a selfless dude. He knew exactly what he was doing when he gave Ren all that space. I know a lot of the time rap is a competition but this is the way Prof works with collaborations. He did this as a fan of Ren. Could have easily extended the song with another verse but probably loved how Ren smoked it.
I find Prof's style is similar to Ren in many ways, he's more of a artist then just a rapper. Prof is independent (No longer with a label), produces his own beats, sings, raps with multiple flows & cadences, plus he's got an unbelievable large and loyal following online. 😍😍
Also, Profs last album: a year ago, "Horse" was #8 on the Billboard Album Charts & he was #1 on Billboards emerging artists, #64 on the Billboard 100 Hot Artists list, April 2023.🔥 Ren's "Sick Boi" album Charted #1 on the Official UK Music Charts & was in the Top 100 on Billboard, plus Ren ranked #4 on Billboards emerging artists & #54 on the Billboard 100 Hot Artists list near the end of 2023. 🔥
They both accomplished all of these things with no label to promote & back them.🤯

I think the beginning sounds like the doorbell ringing. Painsalesmen at the door! A couple of my favs of Prof, Louisiana and Subpar❤❤❤
Prof has become a master of flow switches. (There's at least 8 on Squad Goals.) There's no main flow, but always a distinctive Prof vibe. He subtly varies his vowel length volume like a revivalist preacher, but bar length, rhyme scheme, and pitch are wide open. Pick any track to react to, he's batting 1000.

Lol I'm from Minneapolis so i know Prof and Slug from way back in the day. Prof just has a presence on tracks and live. You should definitely check out more of his stuff. I think you'll dig it
I have to say, having a song with Ren on it, called Pain Salesmen, should at least give us a hint about one meaning although we also have here a kind of double entendre and sarcasm.
Thanks for the review. Most people won't tell you to start with the song MYSELF by Prof , because, well maybe because it's old , or not one of his upbeat joints. But I love it because it is story telling at it's finest, and it's his real life story. This song is thirteen years old , so why not go back to the beginnings of the grind . Oh dude - Prof is the artist’s artist. I’d love to hear you break down some his work (and there’s plenty of it). Little bit out of left field as it’s almost 15 years old now, but “Myself” is an absolute effing gem that I only stumbled across myself the other week and have it playing every other song at the moment… ✌️

Love both Ren and Prof and this song is such a groove. They are both such unique beasts! Recommendations for the Prof hole would be:
Devil's Gate to get more of the smooth groove and some fire bars
High Priced Shoes, Andre the Giant, Squad Goals, Horse, Pack a Lunch, No, and Cut Throat for some WILD rides.
Wacky antic videos but with real spitting, flow switches and killer hooks that will make you move. It can be silly but not gimmicky.
He's got some great stuff in more serious tone with Louisiana, Tombstones, etc.

Man, like you, I was always into hip hop/rap, from PE and LLcJ on, loved ATL, NWA. Arrested Development, DLS, but Lost the love mid naughties when the labels pushed moet snd hos rap at white kids for shock value. Got OutKast, Some Nas & Drake, but the Ren fella was a rebirth - truth and art before sales love your reaction. Ta.

One thing about Prof is there really isn't just one thing he's known for...dude's mega talented, he can sing, rap fast, rap slow, make you laugh, say some serious shit...he just does what he does and our lives are all better for it...his back catalog is massive, his live shows are the best effing party you will ever be at in your life, and he's one of those guys who is just now becoming an "overnight success" after 15+ years of grinding and doing his own style...
My recommendations for some of his previous work are:
High Priced Shoes - for an upbeat party banger to put you in a good mood
Fire Lessons - for a glimpse into the "I ain't takin sh!t from nobody" hood rat banger
Andre The Giant - for a glimpse into the slightly serious side of his comedic work
Tombstones - for the melancholy musician side of him
Creek Boy - for a look at how effing rad his live shows are
Prof is DOPE bro! Like Ren you'll always know it's him because of his cadence and voice is all his own. He totally stands out. He's been on tour for like 15 years straight no joke. Currently he's on tour with Yelawolf.
But if you want to hear Prof rap and make you laugh your ass off check out his video for "Squad Goals" I don't by to g give anything away but just think, "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood" hahahaha
Prof Prof was born and raised in Minneapolis. And during the George Floyd riots the Third Precinct that was burned down, his house is two - three blocks away.
Prof is a deepndive, worth every second digging...he is the swiss army knife of rap, he can do anything!! Best live show in the history of forever!!
