  • Don and Terry try to catch up on answering some listener questions in this episode. Several good ones include Miscanthus, Chemicals, Food Plots, Shade and a great question from the state of New York about the most important aspect of Hunting Whitetails.

I'm in central il 2 hours from dons and I've made the comment also about how bad the ticks have been this year on me. even clear back in February shed hunting was pulling them off

Yeah they've been awful the last 2 years in Kentucky, but permethrin does miracles for me! I haven't had a tick on me since I started coating all my clothes and gear with that stuff!

Ticks and other insects will have huge explosions in their numbers after really cold winters or after really hot and/or dry summers
I've always heard that since I was a little boy by the ole timers, and its held true throughout my life
Same things with acorns they say if its going to be a really cold winter than the oaks that are producing heavy that year will produce really heavy same with pecans if its the year cycle that the pecan tree to really produce the crop will be heavier than normal. I have also witnessed this on several occasions.

Would be funny to see how fast a deer can swim if it would get down wind

I just planted 12 pear trees. Don said he's mulching his persimmons, but I used those rubber weed mats instead of mulch. Is that a mistake?

Back in the day I tried the plastic mats and the trees would root on top of the ground, right under the mat. This exposed the roots if anything ever happened to the mat. I much prefer to use mulch.

@@chasinggiantswithhigginsou6147 Thanks a lot! Also, I've gotten 3 new yearling bucks on camera in the last 4 days. Do you think it's because the moms are kicking them out to get ready to give birth? I didn't have a single button bucks fawn last year so these yearlings must be coming from a good distance

Question, if this is the most important aspect of hunting whitetails then why on Gods green earth is it episode 219 and wasn't episode 1 and then pinned to the channel as a requirement for watching before viewing any other videos? Seriously?
