sailed to staniel cay in 1989 aboard my irwin 65 "CORDIAL".. won the staniel cay regatta.. there were 3 winches on that abandoned hulk.. beautiful sailing and cruising in the bahamas, at least when wife and i did it.. been ashore since '97 or so.. don't miss the humidity or bad weather, do miss the nice people in the bahamas and the sail boat people.. been considering a last hurrah but at 81 it is a tricky thing to embark upon.. happy trails.. :-)
Thank you for sharing this video, love the scenary. What a great way to go exploring, seems you are in the right spot and able to enjoy your surroundings.
The boat you found belonged to a friend of mine, Ole Andersen, a Norwegian sailor. In 2009, if I remember right, Ole left the Miami area bound for Nassau where he was to meet his girlfriend. My wife and I were sailing the same route as Ole, but we got to Bimini earlier and never saw him again after Miami. He sailed direct from Miami to Nassau, but somewhere along the way we suspect he went overboard. Perhaps a wave caught him off balance or he mis-stepped on a slick spot on the boat, we'll never know. The Bahamian Police investigated as did several of our sailing friends. His boat was found untouched, washed up where you see it today. A Norwegian TV show did an episode on missing sailors featuring Ole. RIP, Ole. I wish we could have sailed together much further. Butch aboard "Lucidity".
You know, the very presence of abandoned craft such as this boat always makes for an eerie sight. I remember a trip to the Northern Marianas Islands and stumbling across a WW2 era plane that had been shot down. Now it sits in subtropical forest lands, being buried slowly by the trees.
I envy you...all that shallow clear water. Here in Galveston...the water is so murky and muddy you can't even see the bottom deeper than three inches-and have no clue what you're stepping on.
I was at that wreck in the summer of 2011, on board Cheers the stern pulpit was gone, the winches had all been removed but the mast is still standing. The Bahamians had some wild story of it's arrival on the sand bank.
Very interesting... great exploring.. there DC 3 on the west coast of Andros on Williams Island.. up on ground.. Years ago there was a fleet of aircraft located in Great Inagua that had been confisgated.. Maybe you could collect the n #'s and make the historys.. come to life... really enjoyable watching thanks... have you spotted the giant crevice's on a rhum line between Marathon in the keys and Congo town.. pretty spooky looking down there.. of course no landing in a fixed gear...
After looking at the documentary on this man, which I wish i could speak danish... i had a look at some of the eother films and programs .. namely, Pagten. Looking like the Danish have some great actors. Hats off to them.
Lol.. Those Nurse Sharks were just looking for a little bit o shade.. It's definitely a pretty sweet area to go exploring like that. And maybe next time you go you could explore that old plane wreckage..
Hotels on Walkers were destroyed by the hurricane about 10 years ago, and all buildings have recently been leveled. All that is left is the runway, small customs office and the powerhouse. CK
I would have liked to hear you discuss salvage law, which you could have done while flying, and perhaps seen more of the boat itself--the alleged subject of this video lol--and heard speculation about how it came to be there, who had stripped it, what might be done to salvage the hull, if it wasn't too damaged... From the brief glimpses we did get, I'd guess that it was missing too much hardware to sail, and I saw what looked like at least one hole. Probably too much water in the wood to be worth dragging to port. But honestly, you spent more time looking at sea bottom than at the boat, so I'm not sure! lol
The hull is sound enough, nothing a few quick epoxy patches would not fix for the ride home with airbags. Drydock would be the first place I'd put in for.
Michael Steele You people forget that not everyone is posting videos on RUclips to entertain the masses or make money. Did it ever dawn on you that he just wanted a way to save this video and show his friends?
can i ask you what plany you are flying i like it alot and am looking to buy a plane im currently ongoing my pilots liscense and would love a plane like yours
About 100Kg of Aluminium a couple of tons of Lead and some Stainless steel. You would need a barge and a responsible salvour would take the hull and any other Junk away. Probably allot more salvage in the Aluminium in the other wrecked plane.
Ole was a fisherman, not just a sailor. The Bahamian police never confirmed if the blood was maybe from a fish being cut up for dinner. I am not sold. They also could not answer if the boat was out of fuel. They also could not answer if the boat was out of fresh water. Many non-answered questions.
We must discuss the possibility of not letting a good boat die. I think the least-impact way would be to bring out a big airbag, fitted sled bottom. Then clear the way, with a drogue and you can get that thing to float in 2 feet. That's a shallow shoal, wait until highest of high tide, and have a tug out there that can pull hard and she should come off. She seemed tight around the hull. I would not want to disrespect the memory of anyone , but I am a storm rider by my saililng - and I have seen the power of storms. 17 foot surge is nothing, I lived through a full category five with a 23 foot storm surge. Soon as that happens, she's free and in the shipping lanes and she'll cause death. Did anyone save her yet, and would it be sacrosanct to try.
It looks like a good project boat. You could probably sell it easy on craigslist. Just offer it in an as is condition. Buyer must pick it up. No shipping offered.
There have been hundreds of wrecks in that part of the world. Many of them are just groundings where the boat has been unable to get away again. That boat appears to have a deep fin keel and it has run out of depth. I am reliably informed that on such shoals it can be extremely difficult to find ones way out again. I think the boat could be re-floated by using rubber dinghys strapped either side but a powerful pump would also be needed. A 3" 6.5 HP pump can pump about a ton of water per minute but if there are holes it won't succeed. The good news is that marina fees are not being charged!
How do you land in such shallow water without risking hitting sand or a reef and becoming a wreck yourself? Watching videos like this really makes me think about moving to the islands (I like Andros) but I doubt there's any way to make a living.
i have to ask, why didnt you stop at the plane crash? looks way cooler, so i take it everthing worth a damn on the boat was gone already? and i like your PVC camera holder at first i wish like wtf lol
The sailboat belongs to a Danish sailor named Ole, how is missing, the story about him was in danish to for 2 weeks ago, he was never found or was the small dinghy boat that was after the boat.
good live you live there. i love the gopro. but if you want to use it under water you should buy a flat lens for it. if you apply that it guves also nice hd footage under the surface. i bought an occulus flat lens on mine. try it and be amazed
+Dylan Berry if you google the name in the video you get an article that says he is a felon. bangordailynews.com/2011/05/21/business/auburn-man-convicted-in-airplane-sales/
As someone who loves sailing and flying, this was a fantastic video! Thanks for making it.
Maurice ! That old dog taught me how to fly seaplanes about a thousand years ago ! Good to see he's still moving around.
Man the water is clear I love it thanks for the video two thumbs-up

Butch aboard "Lucidity".
Ole Andersen is from denmark
Thanks for the correction, Benny. I mis-remembered.
The crew of Lucidity l
I am sad about Ole
wow was he alone ?

The water there is beautiful. Love how the fish have already made it part of their habitat.
You need to live, man.
Sharks included...lol..I told you there were sharks...shut up Carl!
Such beautiful clear water! And i think that starfish was following you at one point LOL!
Great video. Now that's how to get to Andros Island. Very cool. Fly safe.
Awesome filming! Such heavenly water, when the camera went under water and I could hear the sounds, I felt like I was there!
Wow... 10 minutes of my life that I will never get back.
I envy you...all that shallow clear water. Here in Galveston...the water is so murky and muddy you can't even see the bottom deeper than three inches-and have no clue what you're stepping on.
You guys living my dream!
It's easy to have that life. It's an allusion that you are stuck in the world you are in right now.
Max Werner
I know, but still... One can dream...
Good words, there is no reson for a bad lift when one can change it. i like that.and it´s true.

I really enjoyed that. Keep posting will be watching them all.
How's walkers right now? Are they still demolished from the hurricanes.

Found it at ASN: Curtiss C-46A-45-CU Commando N10624 of Miami Air Lease ditched there on 28 September 1979.

Cool plane. Nice lil vid.

just go get it....there tons of them in MIami......
Michael Steele You people forget that not everyone is posting videos on RUclips to entertain the masses or make money. Did it ever dawn on you that he just wanted a way to save this video and show his friends?
I can't believe the winches and the roller furling are still there.
Mast rig and furler were still there? Would think anyone with a boat would have pulled those.
Awesome video! Do you have any other cool videos like that one? The LA-4 is a great way to explore! :)
Very neat plane!
2:30 The first shark of the trip. Would you think that was a nurse shark too? looked a lot bigger than the ones swimming away from the boat.
Really good video fellas
How did it get into that shallow of water to start? Hurricane???
man this is sweet! was there a beach arround or something? that water was so shallow! i wana take a visit there!
Anyone who knows more about the C-46 wreck at 9:43 ?
Was the sailboat hull holed, or simply aground on sand ?
The water is so beautiful....
was that fishing net in a pile along side the boat?
Sorry if you commented about it earlier, but was that a DC-3 you over flew near the end of the video?
I wonder if metal detecting is good on Andros ?
Wow the water is very beautifull ! :)
can i ask you what plany you are flying i like it alot and am looking to buy a plane im currently ongoing my pilots liscense and would love a plane like yours
what kind of airplane is that? also, is there somesort of cargo area? where you could maybe put a couple of kayaks?
Nice Lake. How do you wash the plane from the sea salt or is there a need to do so.
What a cool plane! What kind is it? Amazingly shallow draft.
Do the sharks bite that you found ?
Nothing was removed or salvaged? It looks stripped. The dorados are gone, the cockpit has been stripped, hatches removed.
What is the make and model of that plane?
iamtorcman Lake Buccaneer
really cool video.
But How did that sailboat Get There
The keel is longer longer than SEA
see how close the plane was to hitting bottom, I dont think there would be a way of getting that out of there , but im sure they would figure it out.
whats the name and brand of the airplane?
Nice life dudes. Right off of the beach. Is that an old Grumman Duck?
Any bad experiences yet landing in shallows?
I like the plane more than the boat. Is that a Lake LA 4? nice plane
That was awesome. Whats the story on the wrecked plane?
Was that like a boat-plane hybrid?
The name of the sailboat is "Cheers"? mmmm maybe that give us a clue what happened with this boat. ;). cool video...
For the record, what would you have salvaged?
About 100Kg of Aluminium a couple of tons of Lead and some Stainless steel. You would need a barge and a responsible salvour would take the hull and any other Junk away. Probably allot more salvage in the Aluminium in the other wrecked plane.
Who said he was salvaging?
how far is it from fort lauderdale to bimini ?
may you give me the way point of this wreck ?
Very interesting video I enjoyed that
What happens if the plane wont start?
Mmmm O yeahhh, I ll just anchor my plane here.... no big deal :) Good video guys, feel bad for the crew of that boat... Hope they are all OK
Now this is how to have an adventure!!
Hola en qué parte del mundo es
Was the mast aluminum?
Tolles Wasser, tolles boot, tolles Flugzeug !!
what plane are you guys flying in?
Ole was a fisherman, not just a sailor. The Bahamian police never confirmed if the blood was maybe from a fish being cut up for dinner. I am not sold. They also could not answer if the boat was out of fuel. They also could not answer if the boat was out of fresh water. Many non-answered questions.
did you get her off? great vid
Do you remember the location of the abandoned sailboat?
any sharks over there??? just asking cos u were real relaxed walking in that water!
What kind of plane is this?
Max range?
Not much left, is there?

These video's are awsome. They make me realize how dull my life has become. lol
Surprised that sea plane did not need much draft. Also what's the story with the wrecked plane?
I think I would want a bit more than that little mushroom between me and swimming home. I assume there was minimal wind.
I love the camera pole haha
Hi
Do we know why the island is called ''Andros'' ?
There is also an island in Greece that is called Andros ...
Nice Lake Amphib! Lol nice catch of the shark too
Was the owner found?
May I know what camera you use?
Man that thing is stripped down real good. Nothing left on it. That water looks so warm and inviting though eh?
***** Brother or not. They are on your channel.
That one looks like it's been there for quite a while.
cool video but do I hate go pros.. the sound quality is awful

It was a centerboard.
+techdavey1000 Always can go back the way you came?
i suppose it might have been nice to drag the netting or string out of the water...
Did u notice the shark swimming away right after the landing?
I'd love to fly out to an island like that for an overnight camp or barbecue and swimming/snorkeling.
Go to a place in Andros Island called Small Hope Bay Lodge. You won't regret it.
How do you land in such shallow water without risking hitting sand or a reef and becoming a wreck yourself? Watching videos like this really makes me think about moving to the islands (I like Andros) but I doubt there's any way to make a living.

in FL such trash you will not sell unless it has lead in keel. What was the point to make an expensive airplane trip to this location?
good work
I would love to go and explore these places. = : )

I want to live there, some people are just so lucky!
If I was really rich and had a lot of time this would be a fun challenge.
+Khadijah Brown You dont need to be rich to do this...these guys are convicted felons and they're out there...
+DeltaLou Google is your friend. Its no big secret who these people are....never underestimate the value of OPM!
+Joe Schmoe IM so confused dawg... what makes you think these to men are felons
+Dylan Berry if you google the name in the video you get an article that says he is a felon. bangordailynews.com/2011/05/21/business/auburn-man-convicted-in-airplane-sales/

That's the life. Great fun.
