Not fully true. There are lots of great artists in today's music. You just have to look to find them, they do exist. I always recommend people look into the underground music in your local area. EDM is still huge today with lots of artists coming out with great music. Mainstream pop is the worst (it's designed to be that way) but if you venture into other genres you'll find great music.
