@@stevechristie2569 I would say NO Bc as much as you would want to say that she should stay with her anyone who has worked in law enforcement or has any clue of forensic evidence would know that they are contaminating the crime scene. Which this was probably the secondary scene.

Number one rule .....We came together, we leave together. Never split up. They left her alone by bars and hotel's. If she was my friend I'd probably say something along the line; 'You want to hang out alone? Get your butt in this taxi with us. What are you crazy? Let's go'. Growing up in NYC you had to always be aware when you went out.

My friend went home without telling us one night. Us three remaining girls had the whole bar searching for her, plus the security staff. When we phoned her home she was there eating scrambled eggs. It's the golden rule. Together till the bitter end.

Girls....when you go on a night out with friends stay with friends. Dont ever leave one or two alone.

i have a better piece of advise for a girl on her own, Chelsea...
have a canister of deodorant or pepper spray with you and a brick in your handbag, so you can give anyone that wants to hurt you the hell they deserve.
i often go home alone after a night out, albeit that i use a bicycle as means of transportation. in Alkmaar (the Netherlands) we had a bike path assaulter some 20 years ago, he always struck in the same place at the end of a bicycle tunnel in a park. lots of girls and women avoided that tunnel in the weekends, i didn't for i hate detours...
the idiot jumped on the cycle path in front of me, but instead of hitting the brakes i rode on full speed and parked the front wheel of the bicycle between his legs. when he laid throwing up on the path i kicked him senseless some more, picked up my bicycle on rode on.
after that there were no more incidents on that cycle path...

However nicely this comment is meant, it still falls into the category of telling girls how to behave, what to do and how to dress. Why not try giving advice to regulate the behaviour of guys instead?

The lady unable to leave Janes body was a lovely lady. I cried for the lovely young ladies and the loss of their lives when they were just beginning. My heart goes out to their families and friends who are sentenced to a life of unrealized dreams. He was caught in 2016-trial started Jan 2020
I simply don`t know how parents of a murdered child can go on. Even the thought to me is deeply disturbing and painful. RIP young girls.

I’d make sure I’m not in that situation.
I did that once In Taiwan with an impression that the neighbourhood was safe. After watching this, I think back to that night and just realized how risky that situation was for me and now I'm scared. I'd never do that ever again.
And even though they were walking alone, there were still plenty of people out and about - none of the woman were grabbed kicking and screaming, which is probably why nobody really paid much attention to the car these woman willingly got into.
Australia is very safe country, I walk home from bar or nightclub 3, 4, 5 in the morning , all hours , never scare. But it depends on the area you live in too. I was in Melbourne.

when the mom who found her said she wouldn't leave Jane by herself.... just made me cry. You become a mom to that poor girl in that moment. Doing what you can so that she isn't alone. Even though she has passed, I'm sure you become maternal and protective in any way that you can.

Ladies please don't walk alone at night no matter how safe the neighborhood is.I would be scared standing at the intersection at night myself. This applies to men too there is safety in numbers. By the way that was a long and lonely walk to the phone booth.

A friend should have stayed back with her or have her share that taxi. Should a would a could of. It's just sad.
You would think females would of most definitely started thinking this way after a 2nd body was found. Knowing the killer wasn’t caught from the first victim should of raised females senses to never walk alone in that area.
Because not all friend groups live in the same direction so HAVE to split up to go home.

12 years is way too long to ask people to identify mystery man, jeeze I wouldn't be able to recognise myself after 12 years off old CCTV. Its a crazy request and not realistic.
@Kentucky Mama It was the fact that the Police didn't release the CCTV footage asking for witnesses for 12 years. That's the problem, they sat on it all that time!
I do not understand why the girl walked to get a cab waited on the corner, does not make sense, Why not get the cab to pick you up at the hotel or bar and wait with the doorman.
They were quick to notice a serial killer. I also noticed that twice there were three men who saw the victims.
This show is amiss to call the perp a serial killer when at that point there was only 1 murder.

Pepper spray, loud whistle etc. Nothing's bullet proof, but it's better than nothing.If I were a frequent solo traveler, I'd DEF. take some self defense classes. Even when I've walked through a parking lot alone at night, I keep my keys with one sticking out btw. my fingers. It's not much, but it's something.
Those three guys no doubt regret not turning around to check on her after speaking about, then contemplating and then noticing the second car never got on the highway.

I can never understand how young women who are aware of young women going missing, or being murdered in their area, yet decide to walk alone late at night, when they don't have to.
It's really baffling.
Once drinks have been drank all precautions go out of the window, they feel brave indestructible
WHY did they not release that video for TWELVE years?!
I can understand for a month or so, in case you find "mystery man" and he's a suspect you want to hold it back from.
But then release it! He could've been an innocent guy that had more info to help, since he was the last person to talk to her.
I'm also angry the "review" said everything was done well.
I'm in the US but we see a lot of this same BS here.
I know there are a lot of of people really trying to solve crimes.

I'm dizzy with law enforcement in in the US these days. Had such a mix of great and terrible cops, police officers, just in my own personal experiencs, that I don't even know what to think any more or how to fix the problem.

I feel so for the parents, especially the father. She had her father's eyes. When he speaks of her, his eyes just lit up, it made me tear up. I worry when my cat isn't in the house by 5p, I couldn't imagine how I would be if I had a child. My significant other and I often speak about adopting, but after watching these shows, I would have to have her/he tagged as I had done with all of our rescue pets. The "hubby" just brought home another kitten two weeks ago. Prayers and Blessings to all parents of the earth, may you find yourselves all home, happy and together. It's 10pm do you know where your children are? Remember that on Channel 11 in NYC? My mom would shout back at the telly and say, "They better all be doing their homework or getting ready for bed!" up the stairs. And we would shout back, "Yes, ma'am!"

It's like you were in my head. I feel the same way. I usually go through the comments before I start because this show sometimes show unsolved cases. I like the show but I hate be left hanging. I want that be able to watch that person got caught. I watch these programs to see what happened and what justice was done. I get involved in the story and I don't like it when there isn't closure as the families usually say.

I have been to Claremont and Shenton Park. I used to love to hang out at Claremont and have been along Stirling Highway to catch cabs home. This is chilling. These areas seemed so harmless and i used to love to walk the gardens alone.

It was not clear whether that was actually the killer, or just an innocent bystander, who could tell more about what the victim's plans were for that night. Maybe he asked her if she wanted to go somewhere, and she told him, nay, I'm waiting for X or something like that. So that in itself is not the problem. The problem is that these images were released far too long after events took place. That is a choice that policemen all over the world have to make, show or not show, and both choices can have very negative consequences. It's not rocket sciences. This hasn't anything to do with Aussies this or Kiwi's that or Pommies this AND that. The world is a bit more complex than Paul Drake seems to think. May wisdom come with the years.

Oh. The whole of Australia knew. It was a huge thing at the time after the second girl went missing. People just always think that they are impervious to harm. The "I'm smarter than that".. the "It wont happen to me" mentality.

Caz PK What were you DEAF and BLIND? At the time I lived in Wellard and in 97 moved to the Hills we had it on the news, radio and EVERYONE was always talking about it. And I lived both 80 km down-South and 80 km East from Claremont and no matter where we still knew all about it.
Well one of the girls was found at the end of our street in Wellard which was bizarre to say the least. He must have known the area you don't just stumble on that particular road behind a horse farm in the middle of nowhere.

Maybe they did not allow the use of their phones. Remember in 1996 people had pages but not mobiles.
NO phones and no-one had cellphones in 1996/7. You used call boxes.

People *did* have cell phones in 1996 although not as prevalent as they are nowadays.
I remember this show!!!!! The Bodies in the Barrel, the kidnapped teenage boys where the suspect would chop them up and scatter them around, and the couple who kills women (I remember one victim suddenly sprang up) all gave me nightmares when I was still a kid. I was disgusted but super fascinated because the way they did the re-enactments were so on point. It's one of the shows that made me like Investigation shows.

All they have to do is get an undercover female cop to walk down the same street. Perth should set up undercover sting.
They did this in the 90's. As a result a prime suspect emerged who was offering lone girls lifts home. His name was Lance Williams and he was persued for years with undercover operatives following him full-time for two years everywhere he went. There was no evidence that linked him what so ever, however the media caught wind of him and he was hounded for over a decade. In the end he was found to be an awkward person who was genuinely concerned about the safety of girls being by themselves at night. He died in 2018 from cancer and was never apologized to. The Macro Taskforce was criticized for having tunnel vision when it came to him based on no evidence.

The murderer is Bradley Robert Edwards. He has been found guilty on 2 of the murders they didn’t have enough to get him on his final victim.

Police know they should have shown the CCTV footage of the unidentified man or given a description of him to the public sooner
People; be you a man or woman, NEVER wander alone at night, especially in area with lots of night activity. I'm not saying that you'll come to harm, or should be afraid of your community.... but don't be foolish either!! There's safety in numbers! If Miss Kira had listened to the young men who warned her, or if those young men had trusted their guts and kept an eye on her, she may have been saved. If you must be out at night, stick to groups! Even if you don't know the others well, find people heading your direction and round up a group. It could just save your life.
Young girls or women of any age are crazy if they are walking streets in the early hours of the morning on their own. That one young girl who didn't want to go home in the taxi with her friends looked like she was waiting for someone she had arranged to meet on the sly. Thats why she wouldn't tell her friends, knowing they possibly wouldn't approve.

I'm a bit bothered by how casual and nonchalant that one sister talked about her missing sister just after she went missing. I didn't see even a twitch or hint of sadness or concern on her face. I know she isn't the killer but it still bothers me.
I think there's a hint of sadness in her eyes, but yes she seemed rather nonchalant about it. I guess different people cope differently and we don't really know how their relationship was.
I think we should all take a note from Britain, and there should be CTV CAMERAS everywhere in every town and inner rule areas , those cameras are the greatest idea, helps so much in fighting crime! ❤️🙏🏽🇨🇦

How many women are raped and murdered by these sociopaths? Instead of spending money and time after the fact we should be spending it on hiring good decent teachers who care for and respect both boys and girls in their classes. The same should be said for parents and society as a whole. We need to stop raising these sociopathic men! Our society is obviously doing something wrong where these men grow up to be so stunted or damaged that they are attacking and killing women. Let's examine why instead of blaming the victims!

Don't blame her for going alone. Or her friends for letting her do so. I understand the point but it is wrong.

Start by teaching people what a mental illness is and how to deal with it.
And if someone is sick, don't leave them alone in the city. Don't let killers free. Don't let rapists free.
We shouldn't b afraid to walk alone in the dark.
Criminals should be scared to commit crimes at any time.
You can't change the world into a safe place. But you can teach men and women to avoid dangerous situations. This world is a sick place so don't be ignorant and think you can walk at night alone. For both men and women it's not a wise thing to do, but of those two women risk the most.
Everyone should be allowed to walk around freely & safely...unfortunately there are far too many evil people out there...

@@boogygottsmann4728 Indeed, everyone wishes for a safe world where there is no risk and everybody is happy. But reality shows you need to take your own responsibility first before blaming others. Of course it is wrong that people do evil, but that's not the point here. The point is these women went outside in the streets alone at night which makes them easy prey for predators. Just use your brain and never leave your group in those kind of situations. Even men can get robbed walking alone at night. But women are obviously more vulnerable and likely to be attacked.
@@JFskeezix I agree. But I remember back in the 80's I used to walk/roam the streets of Hillbrow, in Johannesburg, South Africa & this was at all times of the day & night. Hillbrow was one of the only places in South Africa which was open 24/7...There were things to look out for especially predator-men, but I never felt threatened or unsafe....Nowadays it is extremely dangerous even during daytime hours.. just driving through is dangerous...Understandably, women have a far greater chance of being accosted...I have great empathy for the street-walkers plying their trade...P.S. My wife is Thai & I cannot let her out without myself or a trusted friend as she is small in stature, very pretty & at 51yrs still looks like a woman half the age...being Asian she is considered by many men to be 'an 'easy woman willing to give happy endings'...sadly the way so many of them think...take care out there, luv 'n respect

It's just not possible. I tried to think of an answer but there is so many situations that have led me to needing to be out walking at night. If only people weren't so terrible.

But it is a decision that women need to make EVERY time they want to or need to walk alone at night. Is my life worth walking. And it is naive, delusional and irresponsible so say it is just a short walk & NOTHING will happen to me. It won't be the young woman that suffers long term she will be dead, it is her family that will suffer for the rest of their lives..

@@liliesrnice I would never blame a women. I just believe for our own safety we need to take precautions. My daughter is very petit, & stunning, olive skin Hazel eyes & blonde hair to her bottom. She started TV commercials at 16 yrs old. From the time she was abt 10 years old. I drilled into "perceive the danger" because women NEED to protect themselves. As unfair as it is. The option is either protect yourself or be at risk of something happening.. I don't even know if women will ever be 100% safe alone walking at night. I hope that it will happen soon for my Grand-daughters who are getting close to dating age.

Have the cops investigated the security guard/doorman/bouncer who Sarah Spiers talked to and revealed that she was about to take a cab? The abductor, abductors, or the accomplice to the crimes for sure knew that the girls would soon be standing on the street waiting for a car to pick them up so the Ocean Beach Hotel must have had someone there who either committed or aided and abetted the abductions.
12 YEARS! It's taken the police 12 years to show this cctv footage publicly? I can understa the need for care when investigating, and keeping certain facts hidden from the public, but to keep this footage from the public for over a decade is ridiculous. Happens in my Western European country also. On tv police asks for certain witnesses, also from streetcamera's, to come forward. Because maybe they have helpful information. I've become used to it.
If the person has nothing to hide no reason not to come forward.

I am convinced that the taxis have something to do with it. I mean it's an area where women go out to party, it basically is the perfect spot for a serial killer to go if they are looking for an easy prey. Especially intoxicated women (which by the way isn't an excuse to kill them) i just don't get why someone would trust a stranger unless it is a taxi driver.

That's why I never venture out without my German Shepherd. Even the most hardened looking guys cross over to the other side of the street when they see me walking down the street late at night.
