Fun fact, I live like a five minute walk away from that church. It hasn't changed much, though there are more houses around it now, and yes I annoy everyone by turning to them and saying "Do you read Sutter Cane?" every time I walk by.
Whelp I just watched this since I saw you guys did an episode on it. Fell asleep maybe 4/5ths of the way through and woke up near the end thinking I had missed a bigger chunk. Rewound to find I'd only been out a few moments and had myself a creeped out little chuckle since it fit with some of the themes of the movie 😂. Cheers
Seriously one of my favorite films of all time - on a personal rather than a technical level. I mean Carpenter has made better, definitely, but this movie really drew me in and led me to my aesthetic and vibe. I was young, and discovered HP Lovecraft shortly after due to the film, and really dug into Carpenter after (I even think Vampire$, a movie that's not that good - is underrated and benefits solely from Carpenter's direction). Probably one of those films that led to my love of film in general.
We, the fan...non-fans, should reach out to Guillermo Del Toro! I would love to see that interview. The imagination and conversation of monster creations would be epic :) !
Thanks Wes -- love your list of movies. Ty -- a lot of his movies I own, but I have yet to watch all the way through. I just do not like horror movies.
Good Ep. Haven’t seen the movie, def on to-do list. Ghost of Mars wasn’t that bad- Maybe it’s been a while. This Movie seems Similar to the Joan is Awful episode of Black Mirror.
Jodorowsky's Dune wasn't just killed because it would have been expensive... it was slated to be the most expensive movie ever made, and he wanted it to be 10-12 hours long, guaranteeing it would be the biggest flop in movie history.
I mean the reason Jodorowsky's Dune was killed are practically infinite and I love how much people bemoan the loss of of it... no-one would be talking about it if it has actually come to fruition beyond what an absolute trainwreck it would have been. It's an interesting thing to look at as part of movie history but it was literally a movie for no-one. It wasn't for the masses, it wasn't for fans of the books, it would have had an audience of about five people who sat around in a coffee shop and talked about it like it was the basis of a new religion and that's about it.
@@rabid_si Precisely. It would have also bankrupted everyone who put money in to it, and as a result it would have probably taken a decade (or more) before a high-concept or big budget SF movie was made again. No Star Wars sequels, no Blade Runner, no Star Trek movies (for better or worse), etc.

this is awesome...
Did you abandon Kerrigan there?
Best part of my week. Thanks guys 💙💛
Loved the show and conversation. You two compliment each other perfectly for a fun and intellectually stimulating show. Great show once again today.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ original cut has the same framing sequence!
I think I could listen to you two talk about anything. You guys bounce off of one another perfectly.
HELL YEAH, Shout out to David Warner as Jon Irenicus in BG2!!
favorite line in the movie: I'm sorry about the balls! It was a lucky shot, that's all!
Dan O’Bannon’s adaptation of The Case of Charles Dexter Ward titled The Resurrected is my favorite Lovecraft adaptation of all time.
This movie is a masterpiece of making Toronto not look like Toronto.
Oh damn, love that Wes referenced Omega Man for Charlton Heston! A Lynch version of a Lovecraft movie? I'm so with Ty.
"Event Horizon" is a "Warhammer" prequel.
The hair metal music opening scene with the super cheap flashy title card. It's a lot to overcome, I'm glad you guys were here to hold my hand...
The opening scene of “Lovecraft Country.” Check it out!
I would say The Mist is a very Lovecraftian story done brilliantly.

Now that I've watched it I can watch this episode. Yeehaw
Agree with Wes about those 90s suits ! You could get ty and wes in a let each they were that big

Dagon... what a great choice!
Ghost of Mars slander has to stop 🛑

Man, I love BG2, somehow when Ty said he loved David Warner, I knew it would be due to Jon Irenicus.
Peter Jason is amazing on Deadwood!
gotta do a deeeep dive on event horizon

I got the impression that Lovecraft was a very fearful, anxious person who poured all his existensial dread into his writing.
