Totally bragging here, so please forgive me: a few years back I got to see a special performance of Les Mis while it was in Toronto. Ramin Karimloo was JVJ and Colm was the Bishop! I got to see Colm LIVE ON STAGE and I cried a lot. Because I'm that cool. (And they did a special Bring Him Home encore duet and I cried a lot again but so did everyone)

trentmcjiivers Completely genuine! I would have been a heap of mush if I had seen that performance. Two of the most awesome men in musical theatre today. Ramin's Phantom to me is unbeatable.

I saw Les Miserables live in the 80s in Vancouver BC Canada. I bought the Broadway recording soundtrack back then. Years later I bought the 10th Anniversary DVD which had Colm as Valjean, as well as many other amazing performers. I particularly loved the final song with the entire cast, and Valjean's from all over the world. Was truly amazing!
Then when the latest movie came out, I bought the Blu Ray, and then also purchased it on RUclips for convenience. When I saw Colm in the role of the bishop, I was so damn excited! Squee! Squee!

Out of all my friends I was the only one who saw this symbolism!!! It was such a touching tribute to Colm and his portrayal of Valjean. My favorite part is at the end of the film where Valjean has just died and sings "To love another person, is to see the face of God" and standing there in that moment was Colm as the Bishop. And as Mackintosh said, Colm is portraying God throughout the film. Such beautiful and symbolic movie making.

I'm going the first time alone. I've decided. I'm going to sit in the very back row, against the wall. I'm going to keep my jacket up against my mouth, and whisper the words, sing the songs, or sob silently. That's the plan, anyway. When I return, several different times with friends, I don't know what I'll do. I won't stop sobbing. I know that. Won't we all have such fun crying that soul cleansing cry?

I saw it Friday and it was fantastic. I grew up watching Colm Wilkinson and the rest of the Dream Cast in the 10th anniversary and was so thrilled to see Colm again! while I would love to have great stage singers do this movie, one also has to realize the reality is that a huge production on a movie Les Mis would require star power to market it out to a general audience whom most will not have any reason to care or see a musical movie - we theater fans may love it but a normal audience don't care - and if the studio was ever gonna get a box office revenue that would justify the production cost, it meant casting well known stars more than just singers
