DA40 Formation Flight

Flight of two Diamond DA40 aircraft including formation takeoff from KMRB (Martinsburg, WV). Hand signals and aircraft motion were used for lead to communicate various maneuvers (e.g., fingertip, extended trail, rejoins) to wingman.

Our local flight school started offering formation flying lessons in Diamond DA40 aircraft. Some of the instructors are former USAF fighter pilots. About 10 pilots have now been through the program requiring at least 3 lessons. Used "The Formation Pilot's Knowledge Guide" -- Google for it, it's available for free online -- as the textbook.

wow, are you both private pilots or did you get some sort of training regarding formation flying. I've been trying to convince members of my flying club to go do some formation flying with me but only a few ever do, and we never get as close as you guys! Excelent flying btw!
