First, it was a pleasure meeting you both in the Orpheum Theater last Wednesday evening. We had an interior cabin. So no window. We did like all the drawers and our luggage did fit under the bed. We did request a fridge for our stateroom and did get one. Our issue with the fridge was the temperature. It got so cold our soda cans expanded and one actually blew up. The can was split open. We also use our international converters to provide additional US plugs and 3 USBs on each as well. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the videos from Enchantment of the Seas.
We sailed Enchanment out of Baltimore in 2022 for Canada & New England. Yes she shows her age but we still had a great cruise. Newer and modern eventually fades. Will the Icon look as good in 30 years.
The Icon is 2024's Voyage of the Seas. The Voyager was the way bigger than anything else ship of that time with a lot of "innovations." How the Voyager looks now is probably better than how the Icon will look in 25 years.
We took Enchanment last summer in Europe. It definitely shows her age, but our room was good. We had an Oceanview with 3 adults, and we were fine. We spent our days off the ship and didnt really care about room issues.
I loved that ship because of the crew and the great time I had on the ship! I was the last sailing out of Baltimore last May. The room was outdated and stains on furniture in room. Thankful for the great crew to make the difference up there
Yet another great GBU review! I'm looking forward to the full ship tour to see how the old lady is doing after all these years! I cruised on her in 2018 (only six years ago, but feels like a lifetime!). That was my second or third RCCL cruise and was after my first cruise on the Grandeur. Weird to come around a corner and find a different hallway because of the "stretching" of the floor plan on the Enchantment. Not super noticable, but just enough of a difference to make you feel uneasy, if you've recently been on the Grandeur. 🤷♀️ I don't mind a few bumps and cosmetic scratches, as long as it's clean. A little tip for keeping the shower curtain from touching you while you shower: bring a binder clip (in a pinch, you could use a pants hanger with clips) and some spare yarn or string (dental floss does the trick as well) and clip the string midway down the shower curtain and tie it to a handle or faucet to pull the curtain away from your body. (THAT is how much I hate having the shower curtain touch me!) 😜 Enjoy your week relaxing after your 60-person group cruise last week!
Have you viewed any rooms in the midsection? Enchantment was split and stretched in 2005--I think one of the first to have been cut in half. Most rooms in the center are in the section added at that time. BTW--we also went on our first cruise with Enchantment, in 2004, though we got an inside cabin!
We did a B2B out of Baltimore on the Enchantment in 2011. We had a great time, but she was starting to look age then, so I can only imagine how she looks now. But it's still a cruise and I'm sure lots of fun. So that's what counts.
We've been on Enchantment several times, including just before & after her stretching years ago. We most recently cruised her twice last year in the same category as this one, once with a child too. She is by far our favorite ship in the RCCL inventory. We've been on larger, as well as Vision & Grandeur. We like the intimacy of the smaller ships & truly hope Rccl puts some focus on the smaller ships instead of all the obnoxious behemoth ships like ICON.
I also sailed out of Tampa late November, early December last year to the Bahamas. Rooms were like you said older. Really did not stay in the room often. The food was just ok. The price was great for a short getaway.
We have sailed on Enchantment of the Seas in an ocean view cabin. In fact, this was our first experience on a Royal Carribean ship. This wasn't too long ago, about 4 years ago. She is quite outdated, but there's something kind of charming about that. Enchantment is SO different from the newer, Oasis class, ships. I enjoy all the classes for varying reasons. Enchantment is great for exploring a lot of ports, like a European sailing. When we went to Hawaii, we sailed on a smaller, older ship that didn't have any bells and whistles, like water slides and such. Honestly, we didn't care. We were so busy exploring the different islands that we only used the ship as a floating hotel essentially. So, we were glad to save the money by sailing on an older, smaller ship. I feel that that's what those classes of ships are good for. Now, If I was doing a transatlantic sailing, I would prefer a newer ship with tons of activities.
I have been on the enchantment many times and have always enjoyed it. Yes she is dated however the staff if very personable and the ship is worn but remains clean.
Excellent video with great information. You truly have the best cabin and ship tours. I think these older ships get the important things right that the newer ships tried to improve and perhaps failed. We've done our share of older ships and are always a little bummed out by the inevitable wear and tear.
I think if the price point reflects the negatives and so the cruise is cheaper, then I don't mind the outdated decor as long as everything is clean, in good repair/functional, and safe. As long as the cruise ship has enough public spaces for all its passengers to find a place to hang out comfortably and reasonably quietly all day and evening, then you only need to go back to your cabin to sleep, change, and shower anyways.
The old ships on RCCL, Carnival and Norwegian are the only ships that fit under the Tampa Skyway bridge. Tampa has become a popular cruise port and the ships are always booked many months in advance. The first cruise line that build a 3500 passenger ship that fits under the bridge will dominate the market. Mega ships are not always the best.
Thank you for the tour. We are booked in an ocean view cabin leaving May 4th. This is our 2nd cruise (1st was Wonder of the Seas last June). We are excited to get away but nervous about how old the ship is.
It’s a solid cabin, just outdated and showing the wear and tear. With the usually lower rates, we definitely understand the draw for cruising these older ships. (As long as you can look past her age!)

Hey guys, Tampa here. Last year I sailed on the Grandeur OTS last May, and sailing the Enchantment OTS this May 11. I'm sure, EOTS will have its faults, as did GOTS, however, you will not find me on a MEGA ship because they are way TOO BIG for my comfort zone. I board the smaller ships to relax, count the waves, and just chill out. Yep, the cabins will have ware-n-tear, but we just sleep, shower and whatever in our cabins. I do agree with most of your assessment, but I also board expecting to see a 27 y/o vessel with some faults. Thanks for the video and sail safe !!
I agree almost completely with this preference for smaller ships. I don’t mind the mega ships being larger, rather I’ve found the activities on the mega ships to be growing louder and more intrusive, filling practically any available venue, leaving very little space for simple relaxation. The smaller ships seem to be maintaining spaces for quiet relaxation.
All depends on the price. Looks clean and comfortable to me. I'm a loner and would prefer a ship that is quiet without the bells and whistles. I'd take this in a heartbeat if it were a bargain.
If I book a cruise for the ports, I don’t plan to spend much time at all in the cabin. So I don’t care too much about an updated interior. However, sometimes when I cruise, it’s because I really need a relaxing vacation, so then I would definitely have a balcony. I did an inside cabin on an Alaskan cruise, and I didn’t have a bit of a problem. But Southern Caribbean this past May, it was on celebrity in a suite. 😊
We like the old ships from Royal, as long as the food is good, and cabin is clean, we don’t mind, we have done 6 or 7 of them and have enjoyed them, we did some of them in the 90’s or early 2000 and they were just fine. The most recent one, last year was the Serenade, Panama crossing for 14 days, and boy did we enjoy that ship! ❤️
WE had the worst cabin on that ship this past January. Inside room, deck 2. Both floor drains in the bathroom each exploded on different days spewing black gunk and water all over the bathroom. Our poor cabin attendant. He was new and had never seen that happen. The plumber though wasn't surprised. Had to have the beds separated as we could not walk around them! It was the worst inside cabin we have ever had, hands down.
I tried to stay out of the cabin as much as possible. There was a bathing suit hanging in the shower and trash under the bed when we arrived so that didn’t help. But it was depressing.
We've cruised on this ship a couple of times and I like it. No, it doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but I have decided that the big ships just aren't for me. I really prefer more the Voyager or Freedom class. I did miss the outlets and didn't care for the shower curtain but this isn't a deal breaker. Yes, I would definitely cruise on Enchantment again.
This is where I smile because the Voyager is a gigantic ship IMO. It was the Icon of the Seas in 1999 when it came out. So, in say, 2060 will people call the Icon ship mid-sized? That's the direction we're going in. JJ did a great ship tour and I love the ship. It's fantastic to me because it has a lot of varied social spaces for various music and dancing and a piano bar but also a great promenade deck and huge windows for viewing the ocean. I don't care about outlets and shower curtains, they do the job. If you need to be connected bring the accessories.
Hey Jared. Oh wow. Dated indeed. Just looked 1996 but it’s giving 70’s vibe 😂. Oh great idea to open the suitcase and lay flat to fit under the bed. No fridge? That’s odd for a 1996 ship. Uh oh. The ugly? Holes in the walls? Scratches? Wow. On Carnival Magic in 2022 we were in a spa balcony room. The sofa was so worn, discolored and cracked I didn’t even want to sit on it. I wanted to complain but my husband said we’re barely in the room anyway. Forget it. So we did and had a ball. Guess they need to refurbish if gonna continue sailing. Thanks for sharing 🤗
Nothing like the 1970s in style or color or anything else. This is very much a 1990s style of ship cabin. In the 1970s the ships had "cabins," not staterooms. And the bathrooms look nothing like the one on this ship.
I think the cabin looks nice. We don’t all like ikea, wierd, wierd geometric art. If it is clean…and the price is right…we are good. We don’t find enough plugs on any shop.
I think when cruising in an older ship like this it’s one of those compromises you make because usually they are more about the destination than the ship. If you had said there was a smell or it wasn’t clean then I’d be concerned.
Not necessarily. This is a cabin tour but the ship tour reveals a lot of excellent areas on this ship to have a great time with fellow passengers. In fact, I'd say there's more social areas on this ship than some bigger, newish ships.
I’m really surprised this hasn’t been overhauled more. Even carnivals older smaller ships have been upgraded. More dining options, more entertainment options; more to do in general (water slides etc). These cabins are definitely worn which is disappointing
Different strokes. I wouldn't want it to be more "updated." I prefer music/lounges to so many dining options. For those of us that want to do the music/lounges over dining options, this remains a good option. And I don't even think this ship is dated because I go back to ships like the QE2 and Norway, steamships and ships that don't have balconies. This just looks like an earlier version of today's ships because the 1990s was the blueprint of the style of ships of today. Just some different color trends and some tech here and there with more specialty restaurants and amusement stuff on the decks but a lot of the stuff isn't all that different in more "modern" ships (that will date too as well).
The age and some wear doesn’t bother me.. my first concern is the cleanliness of the room. The holes /wear in the wall is a little tacky for Royal Caribbean standard.. The furniture just needs paint and maybe a new cushion. But if the room is cheaper than other ships, I could look past those things.
AWFUL. I think if I went on this ship I’d be very disappointed as to how dated it is. Looks more like mid - century 1900’s! What really took the cake was the ugly: just terrible at the condition of fixtures and furniture. Immediately I thought of Margarita at Sea. I don’t mind the idea of an older ship but I would expect it to be refurbished

I would stay in this cabin. I like the older style. New is great, but I still like the older too.
The first cruise I ever took was the Enchantment back in 1999. I remember her fondly, she is why I fell in love with cruising. ❤

Absolutely! Solid room for a crash pad. Good bed, plenty of storage and lots of mirrors for multiple people to get ready!
I care that it is clean and in decent repair not how current the style. As long as the overall value is good, i am ok.

The cabin storage is great on Enchantment! I believe that there are still refrigerators on decks 7 & 8.

Looks like a cabin to me. It has the essentials. If it is worn, so be it. I look a bit worn too as do most of us when we get some age on us.

Is this ship due for dry dock or a facelift? I would stay there. The worst part for me would be the shower curtain.
The ship is due for dry dock but at 28 years old… well, she may just have a different next step. 😅
The pronlem with scrpping these older ships is giving up ports that can't accommodate the new behemoths.

We definitely believe the cabin is solid overall, but just not kept-up to the standards of the newer ships. 😅
@@JJCruise I can handle the vintage look. From your experience how are the prices for RCCL oldest couple of ships compare to say one middle of pack age wise? I understand some bump and dent damage as long as the cabin is clean and functional.
I think they are not fixing up older ships so they can have more glitz on new ones
