Even if she had planned to choose Williams before even coming, she would have changed her mind and chosen Ricky. she should have chosen Ricky just by the look on his face. Ricky was dazzled and touched. And it's not every day that a talent puts a coach in this emotional state.

Well, seeing this 10 years later in repeat-mode:
1. This is still the best cover yet, what a pity it didn‘t get a Single EP
2. This is still very tragic, in several ways
3. Still keep in mind this is a show, so everything seen here may be a „show“
4. Nonetheless Ricky really seemed to be touched. I know this by myself from not that many situations when I heard someone singing or seen someone dancing. You are touched to your heart and bones and you can’t help yourself.
And yeah, you fall in love, like you fall in love with a perfect, almost satori-like moment were you are at ease from heaven and not neccessarily with the person like romantic, but this is just one door away though.
5. To all the „ew, she’s 17, he is 30 something“- guys: even if he would have had a real crush on her, just wait till the show is over and she‘s 18 and everything is fine
6. But yeah Ricky was really honest in his display of emotions (this „you gonna be awesome“ at the end was wow) and yeah too creepy for her at that age. I don’t know if they have to choose specific mentors, but if she was left to choose on her own, she definitly couldn’t handle his adoration. And this is sadly true often in life, (biologically grown) girls choose the ones they think in their inmature manner serve them best and are then ditched.
7. From the fact Will made her drop out pretty fast the whole „I‘ll teach you different songs out of your comfortzone“- and „I don’t mind losing when fighting for you“- speech was utter manipulative BS, choosing her was just a narcisstic move. He just saw someone he could try to form in his way (and take away the precious from someone else) and as it didn’t work out, he ditched her.
8. After all what I‘ve seen and heard from her on YT now, I couldn’t detect any „effects“ of any „teaching“ on her voice. Nowadays she only sounds older and a bit more experienced, but she basically still sings the same way, which is not bad per se. But like often in life, you see your bad decisions (if you do at all) only afterwards. With her voice-set she would have done 1000times better choosing Ricky. At last, he could have been even more a patreon than just a mentor and could have helped her moving towards perfection in what she already was good at instead of promising something she could not be like Will did.
One could understand her „I wanna try something new with a mentor good at producing“, but Will wasn‘t interested in her performance. She let herself being blindfolded.
9. After all a real talent making the wrong decision
The biggest broken heart I have ever seen.

smart choice ... he’ll bring her into her own unique style that will last beyond the show. like he said he’d challenge her.
News flash, he didn't. Ricky would have totally been a better choice for her. The dude was transfixed.
Unfortunately, he did nothing of the sort. Gave her a song for the Battles that was clearly not anything she could have thrived in and only chose her because the other contestant did honestly horrible. Then he got her to sing a nice little bit in the Knockouts, only to proceed to eliminate her. Will just wasted her potential and didn't care for her strengths. Ricky was by all accounts the better choice.
