There’s plenty of good ones. The ones who exclusively watch shounen before are just finding about shoujo anime now that the anime industry finally made proper shoujo anime after many dead years of barely adapting enough shoujo manga that came out out within at least the last 10 years. Stupid isekai mangas got more focus in the past few years until this year for some reason. I remember in 2010s how common shoujo anime was then they end up not becoming common. This year is the much needed ressurgance since romance anime before this year is most likely actually under a shounen manga magazine (very male oriented).

I’m in college and would find it weird to know that one of my female classmates is into hard core gaming and is dating a high schooler. The premise just didn’t feel realistic or even relatable and I would frankly be concerned for someone of her age and gender to be acting in such a manner. I assume the manga is better and that’s why the anime is so revered.

It is an Anime where you can chill and watch out, with sweet moments, little bit funny and also sometimes weird moments On my opinion it is the charm of the Anime/Manga that it isnt plotwise very demanding but only wholesome. That's why I watched it, then as an AMV editor I created an AMV and tried to portray the charming points of the Anime😊and last but not least I read the Manga and I all the other great scnees from the Anime will be adapted. Sometimes watching shojo anime is soooooo frustrating! Twelve episodes aaaannnnd poof! That's it! That's it? What do you mean that's IT?! What do you mean Rent-A-Girlfriend is getting a third season?? Ugggghhhh!!
Having watched Yamada-kun, Raeliana, and Skip & Loafer this season, I came away more frustrated than satisfied knowing that these titles may never get more than 12 episodes while other shows, like Blue Lock, got a cool 24 or other anime got more than one season like Rent-A-Girlfriend and My Dress Up Darling.
Also! Penguin-Random House has launched an imprint called INKLORE that will be publishing physicals of My Love for Yamada-kun in 2024! (They're also publishing the light novel for Under the Oak Tree, another fav)

@@lemon5000-tj6nv I'm aware that Skip and Loafer is a seinen and published in the same mag as Vinland Saga. I read and watch both. Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion isn't a shojo either. I mention these anime because the problem of only 12 episodes goes beyond shojo, which is why they're separated from my first paragraph. The implication here is what separates these shows from Rent-A-Girlfriend and My Dress Up Darling in receiving more episodes, and its not the wholesome subjects or compelling plot.
But fingers crossed Skip and Loafer gets a second season and less grief than S2 of Vinland Saga (since lots of viewers and readers are vocal about the merits of the slave/farming arc).

but. Yamada doesn't even have the most unintentional rizz of any male lead from the Spring 2023 season - that goes to Takada from My Clueless First Friend, who got the Crunchyroll commenter nickname 'the Rizzler'. you would not believe a fifth grader could be this unintentionally smooth. nor as masterful at anti-bully verbal jiujitsu. One of the main appeals of this show is seeing a bullied girl get lifted out of social isolation and depression by this absolute angel boy. it kind of is a manic pixie dream boy narrative, lol. but despite Takada being oblivious, absurdly optimistic, and slightly chuuni in a charming way, he's also remarkably empathetic. even when he's verbally destroying bullies, there's no malice.
sorry, a bit off topic, but I wanted to plug a super-underrated show.

taken from MAL: "While I enjoyed this anime, I can't really recommend it. Why? Well, it is just like a bland soup that will fill you, but will not give you any lasting taste.
So what do we have here? A girl after a break up meets a gamer and we follow their interactions for 13 episodes. Don’t be fooled tho if you thought “wow, a gamer, he is just like me!” - the man is a typical hot dude that has no rest from girls. And this is, basically, everything I can tell without going through every episode spoilering you events, because the flow of events is neither ..."

i've been noticing that romance mangas from this decade are getting better at the cost of leaving the shoujo/josei label behind and blending in with genres like shounen/seinen which are mostly written by men for men. it's a shame, honestly. shounen romance, specially when written by men, tend to have a very different vibe and are too male-gaze-y. i wish those would remain separated for this reason.
i'm not promoting a battle of the sexes or anything, of course, but this situation is unbalanced exactly because the female audience is willing to read anything regardless of genre, whereas the male audience have no interest in anything that isn't catered to them :/
personally i found yamada-kun quite boring. i mean, i can understand why people like it, but i'm fed up with modern shoujo with girls who tend to have the exact same personality and the love triangles. i've read a bunch of romance shoujo from the 2010's decade like horimiya, aoharaido, hibi chouchou, taiyou no ie, tsubaki chou, etc, and goddamit, almost all of them were sooo mid to downright awful. i think the only one i truly liked was wotakoi. this situation left me completely disiluded with the whole romance shoujo genre for a while.
this changed when i decided to read skip to loafer and my fucking god that manga is an absolute gem. there's no comparison to others, at all. it's so well done and well written i become a little sad when i realize it's very unlikely something good like this will appear again soon. also, after school lessons for unripe apples, this one is a one in a million manhwa.

I read the manga. **MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD** Maybe a controversial take but honestly I could kind of ignore the age gap and everything but then ch. 69 happened. I'm just not comfortable with the fact that she's an iirc 2nd year and college and he's still a senior in high school. I'd probably be ok if they at least kind of acknowledged the fact that it's a bit weird or waited for him to enter college, but scenes like during the school festival where everyone was complimenting Yamada-kun on having gotten an older girl just icked me out. I couldn't go past chapter 69.

a 2-year age difference is really not an age gap. I think they refer to her as an older girl because in a high school setting, the concept of seniority is different than it normally is in a way that even someone a year older would still be referred to as "older"

I skip alot of modern male pov romance anime since they’re cookie cutter paste plots. Kinda watching old romances like midori days. It’s shonen. High school dxd. Love hina. School rumble. I finished that one. 💕💕 but annoyed how it ended in the manga.
I’m giving skip to loafer a chance. it’s making it harder for me to watch it bc it’s aight. 👍Not in a bad way.
Yamada kun isn’t really my cup of tea. Akane just annoyed me and bored me. Yamada is ehh. Not good not horrible. No offense to the creator. Not my cup of tea.

@ 18 is underage in japan. 20 is the adult age by the law.

I respect your opinion, but this anime was plain boring, Runa was a disgusting character, the main relationship was okay at best and the animation was way too generic to care
