3:48 Actually impossible for a guy to finish tightening bolts and NOT say "that isn't going anywhere"
This is soooo dope and sooo much motivation for me!
I just finished AMT school, still working on my A&P and looking forward to getting my pilots license. Also I have an 83 Malibu wagon! Vortec 355/th350.
Awesome build and good thing you caught it on time.
I would go hardened pushrods first to be sure. They aren't too expensive and would give you peace of mind.
I was told never to use anything but oil on a roller cam.Just check with Comp.Ask for my friend Rick Sparks.
I like it! Did you use hardened pushrods? The pushrods in my Maverick rub on the guide plates too but other than some rub marks they don't get damaged. Been that way since I built the engine back in 2006.
Thanks man. I found that the night before I deployed so I haven't been back to do anything about it. I am torn between pulling the guide plates out or replacing the pushrods with aftermarket hardened ones. I haven't found anything that is definitive, but I thought the stock pushrods were hardened. Any thoughts on it?
@@BurnoutsAndRotorblades You must run hardened pushrods with guideplates.
Nice build, curious what cam part # you went with. Thx
Comp cams 08-301-8 www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-08-301-8/
350 Small block?
Yes it is. But it is still very fun
What is the HP gain?
Do you have a build sheet? I have a similar set up looking to mimic yours. Seems to be just enough for me
Nice but did you dial in the cam? I didn't see that part or maybe you just didn't film it.
Thanks,
Nope. I just installed it straight up.
I know this is an old vid but whats the part number on the cam and heads?
H8002k for the heads.
Thats really nice street power levels. Is there a build sheet on the motor? I would like to build one similar
It's a bone stock L31 bottom end. Everything else is laid out in the video.
Do you know how much boost you're making and what size pulley are you using on top?
4lbs. I'm planning a swap over to a 7lb pulley and maybe going E85.
Did you regap the rings for boost?
Not yet. but I'm only at 4 lbs boost at the moment. However, I'm planning on going E85 and upping the boost. So, I'll have to re-gap the rings.
you just didnt adjust the valves right happens to the best of us mines a b&m 144.
smallest wheel should be 5-7 psi buy a autometer boost gauge it better have 10 rib pulley
you 401 hp 460 tork is actually low
because a 20 psi roller barely loads the supercharger
but gives a base line.
pushing the car down the road will load the cylinders better
another words it will beat up a 500 horse 650 tork naturally asperated engine.
a 200 hp add on
and a 144 will not stop adding hp like you think if you wind it up to 7000 rpm youl be cranking out 800 hp
and will spit out stock normal gapped hyper pistons lol and the head gasket is sure to go
you need steel ring gaskets or machined in steel rings
That combo had about 1000 miles on it when it coughed cruising on the highway and bent that rod. It was a bummer but I’m happy it happened because I discovered the pushrod wear that would have surely caused much bigger problems in the near future. Now that I think about it, the lip that was being worn in to the pushrod could have been partially responsible for the whole ordeal. Either way, I have some upgrade videos coming. Step one, new fuel type. I’ve already gone e85 and I’ve about got the setup dialed. Stage two, tear the engine down and open up the ring gaps in preparation for a smaller pulley. The trans needs a bit of love so that will all happen at the same time. Then I’m hoping for 5-600whp. I’ll have to look in to the pistons. I was under the impression stock hypers would work fine at that power level. I’ll be putting on MLS gaskets for sure though. Coupled with the ARP head studs, I should be fine there.
@@BurnoutsAndRotorblades you missed why your rod bent it was detonation
all your advance needs to be in by 2000 rpm
your car back fired e85 might have killed fuel pump or just tune up
probably bent valve or was there antifreeze in cylinder lol blown head gasket
and your hypers will only last 6000 rpm or so 308 gears might save them
1 of my freinds blower shot a push rod like a bullet right through a steel rocker arm
valve cover hood and I think its orbiting the earth now lol
good luck
@@alonzahanks1182 been running a 144 on a 40 over stock bottom end for over 2yrs now and done so many passes in it you couldn't count them and it has all the parts you just mentioned wouldn't work 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'd say it's more of a tune ability issue
@@jonathanlawson4667 Sorry I thought you ment piston rod got bent .
Hypers are fine with gapped rings theyl actually not swell much and run tighter clearances where the pistons dont have to do a long warm up being your daily driver
make sure you use steel ring head gaskets .
I ran my B&M 144 corvette supercharger for 65000 miles the good wrench box engine had 50000 mile bearings in my 76 Blazer 2 virgina city 500 off road baha races hill climbs on and off pavement and sand drags winning all 4 events 2 years in a row against Rod Halls 1000 Horse Power Hummer And many others with Blown big blocks
And spanked them all lol with 308s 2400 custom stall converter shift kit Turbo 350
crane anti pump up lifters Crane 480 510 blower cam crane 1.5 gold roller rockers
Hooker headers Hypertec Hei coil changed the gears to 411s
Trew it in low lock hit about 14000 rpms and took off like a acme rocket
spit out pistons head gasket and spun a bearing all at same time
Felt like 2000 hp lol ran race gas but liked estes 12 percent nitro airplane car fuel
id mix a quart with 32 gallons of gas with 92 octane its 140 150 octane and hand ported
good wrench heads comp 400 pound valve spring the stock valves were hollow filled with epoxy realy light realy strong
and took realy high revs put in threaded studs with helicoils 5-7 psi wheel 12 degrees of timing
in the desert everybody running 14 psi big blowers over heating packing ice bags
mine i can put my hand on I kept having people tell me I dont think your left front wheel ever touches the ground lol my ported iron heads actually exaust valve seat had a tiny crack from driving it home with blown head gasket.
Ive got forged teflon skirted corvette pistons in a 355 to make 9 to 1
using my B&M 144 for a fart fan in my bathroom so it doesnt grow legs and run off lol
If those are pro-form rockers, throw them away. They don't hold up.
