I wanted to add that after soldering the first time, the clock did not turn on. At my spouse's suggestion, I applied more heat to the newly soldered joints to spread the metal a bit more and that did the trick. Thanks again for sharing a really helpful instructional.
Thanks No Kidding, I really appreciate you sharing that information, sometimes it doesn't work on the first attempt, you need to make the contact with the solder.
Just bought an 01 CRV yesterday. Clock wasn’t working. Bought a soldering iron and solder for less than $10 from Walmart and redid the solders. Works perfectly. Thank you so much!
My clock has not worked for over 5 years. One of the circuits on my clock had broke off completely. Of course it was the most difficult one to solder on the far left side. I gave it my best shot. Plugged in and it did not work. One week later the clock lit up and kicked on at the exact time of day!! Truly a miracle.
I just tried this on my 2000 Honda CR-V and I did a much worse job on it than you did but it still worked. Huge shout out to this video it absolutely worked for mine! That clock hadn’t been working for 15 years, thank you!!!
15 years Zachary? lol. Glad you got it fixed, and thanks for the feedback, next time don't wait so long to ask me to fix a problem with your car lol. 👍
After buying 5 clocks from my local auto dismantler this year, all of which were inoperable, I decided to see what was online. I now have 5 working clocks thanks to this video. Simple fixes. All had cracked solder connections.
That's funny because I did the same thing as you did and got 3 clocks from a junkyard, and none of them work. Now that I found this video I might have 3 working clocks😄
Still helping people 8 years later! Just picked up an 01 CRV as daily and this fixed my clock. Just reflowed all the solder joints I could see and worked like a charm.
Hi, Eddie My clock was not working for years (99 CR-V) then I saw your video, and followed your instructions and it worked great the first time. Now, 3 years later, it's out again. So I will try to fix it a second time. Thanks for making the video and saving me $300 for a new clock.
My sister's clock has been out for a few years on her 2001 CRV. Honda wanted $500 to replace it. I found one "rebuilt" on e-bay for 60 bucks and one at a local "Pick and Pull" for $16. But now that I've seen this video, and I have the tools, I'll be trying this fix tomorrow. Seems it's a common issue. Thank you for posting the video....9 years later. 🙂 Edit: This is the day after I watched this video. I saw one visible crack but I went ahead and reflowed each solder joint. It worked like a charm. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this awesome, easy fix in video format. My 1999 c-rv clock has been out for four years. I had read similar instructions online a few years ago and assumed it was the full front panel that needed to come off. Thanks to your video, I was able to see how to actually complete the repair.
Your a God dude! My clock hasn't worked in 5 years and Honda is smoking something if they think they have a fair price for a replacement. I re-soldered 2 joints and it works great. Thanks so much. It never would have been fixed without your video.
I used this video to fix the clock on my wife's 2001 CRV.. Took a whole 5-10 minutes tops and all is good. Took me longer to dig out my old soldering iron than it did to actually hit the spots on the clock with some new solder... Thanks.
I check our local scrap yard and every Honda hD the clock removed. Finally found this video. Tried once and it did not work. Watched again and took second attempt and this time it worked. Thank you for great advice. 👍👍👍👍
This was great--I pulled the clock from my wife's CR-V, and even though the solder didn't look cracked, I re-did it anyway, and it worked! Thanks again!
Props to you Eddie, I bought a 1999 CRV about two weeks ago and that was one of the things on my to fix list. I bought a soldering iron for 10 dollars and the rest is history. Thank you!
I tried it yesterday after the clock not working for ten years. So after watching your video soldered two of the ones you showed on the left side and it worked. At first thought it didn't but next day after driving it started to work just needs a few minutes I guess to warm up the capacitors or what ever you call them. Thanks for the video,I'm a happy camper
Good fix...thanks Eddie...like everyone else, it's been bugging me for years. What I did was first the front two on the left side, same as the video, plugged it in and nothing...so, I took it out, had a look at the back of the blocks. The extreme left was looking cracked in the back, put some solder down and "viola" the thing lit up. Good job Eddie...
wow. This helped me a lot. My clock has been busted for years. I already told the shop to fix it and they said it cant be fix anymore. And recently I search the internet and it lead me to this video. and my clock is now working, Thanks a lot eddie.

Hi Edi, Thank you very much for the post, It's been very useful. In the clock of my 1999 Honda CRV clock I found I had to resolder the 3 resistors, with the added difficulty that the resitor in the middle fell apart when I dismounted the electronic board. The interior connection point of that resitor is located under the the clock display so in order to access to it, I had to unsolder the 4 support pins of the lower side of the clock display, bend it upwards and solder the resistor. Afterwards, I could fix back in place the 4 support pins of the clock display. This was a delicate work and I am not expert with soldering so I was pretty sure that the fix would not work. But when I put everything back in place and turned on the key of the car .... voila!! it worked. The clok is a small thing but it really changes one's mood when getting in such a veteran but loved car... Cheers!
My mom's crv has had this problem for years. Gonna fix this, the back door latch, and the window motor as soon as Spring/Summer start to roll in. Thanks a lot, yours was by far the easiest to follow.
Great post- noticed a completely broken connection on a 300 resistor- needed a magnifying glass to find it but once soldered, bench tested and worked just fine. Thank you for mentioning the bench test part- probably saved me a few steps. Also be careful with the clips- I broke two but the panel went in. Be patient when doing this part. Thanks again
Eddie, thanks for the fix. When I was doing what you show, the darned resistor fell off completely! Shows that it was definitely not connected. I had to desolder the two lower standoffs of the display and tilt it up to get to the other side of the resistors. Resoldered the 3 resistors. Put the standoffs back in place. Resoldered them. Works great! Your awesome!
I soldered the joints about 2-3 months ago, and it didn't come one. However, about 20 minutes ago, I turned the ignition and was shocked to see the clock come on. My car was in heavy rain for about 15 minutes. Not sure why the delay, but I'm glad it's working...thanks for video!
Thank You for this very well put together video, I've put off for years looking into this and today, with your help, it went flawlessly. Without knowing how or where those elusive clips were hiding, It always stopped me from snapping the clock from it's mooring. Glad I waited for the proper instructions. Thanks again.
Hey Eddie - thanks a bunch for posting this. I just finished repairing my CR-V clock. I had to remove the display block from the printed circuit board to access the components underneath. Took more time but still worked.
Eddie, Thanks a lot! Followed your steps exactly and it worked like a charm. You don't know how long I have played with this clock and nothing worked. Much appreciated!
Hey thanks for the vid. My CRV clock hadn't been working in probably 5 years. The soldering was totally hooped on that first block, so 15 minutes later, my clock was up-and-running again. Nice when there's an easy fix. Thanks a lot!
It worked on my 2000 crv..just needed 1 solder left of screen on black box..it was easy to find with a jewelry magnifying glass. thank you soo much...excellently done video...yes some of us like to keep track of time..stock clock lights up. auto store sticky clock doesn't. ...thanks again ..

@@EddieCarrara1 Just did the same to the 2000 CR-V this time -- and the same solution applied, except for a different spot on the circuit board. Thanks again and have a very Merry Christmas!

Eddie, so many thanks. Tried this, and it didn't work so was a bit disappointed, but when I next jumped into the car it burst into life. Your instructions were really useful and gave me the confidence to have a go myself, and now it's all working just fine. You've just saved me £25, top man.
Thanks for the video Eddie! Followed your video and found a cracked solder joint. If you run into a bent clip just push it in towards the dash with a screwdriver.
Eddie, you are a wizard. Worked like a charm. Caution: use a small soldering iron head. I used a large one. Tough to guage pressure and application. One of the chips popped off. Had to re-solder both sides of it. Regardless, fantastic, quick fix.

wow after driving around with a dead clock for the last 5 years assuming it was the result of bestbuy's failed attempt at installing a remote starter its finally fixed, thank you
Thanks so much for this. I had to buy a magnifying glass and carefully study every solder joint until I found the crack. (Mine was underneath the clock display, making it hard to locate). But after that it was a rapid fix.
You nailed it Eddie, great work. As soon as I saw the hot spot on the lower left corner of the glass I suspected the component underneath. I see that yours has the same hot spot - we should report this manufacturing defect to Honda immediately! :)
Hey, Eddie, Thanks for the vid. My clock was not working in my 99 CR-V for years, and I removed the clock as you said, but I lost one of the 4 clips. Anyway, I found the same cracks in the same locations as your vid on my clock circuit board. I fixed them per your instructions, and reinstalled. It worked, just like yours did! Thanks again.
Hi Linda, that's great, isn't it funny how we let things go for so long not even realizing that there is a simple fix :) How did you come across my video? Did you search for the clock fix?
Just fixed mine up thanks to this! Second square was all the way broken off! Was a PITA to solder that bad boy under the display screen lol but she works great now thanks 🙏🏾

Worked great I have a shaky hand so I got the wife to add the solder. She did a great job thanks for the tip I got a clock from the wreckers had same problem.
Hello Eddie, I did get my hands on the clock and checked those solder connections. There are solder joints on both sides so I can only assume a bad connection could be on either side. I touched the 3 areas you mentioned with some fresh solder and am waiting for a family member to reinstall the clock in thier CRV to hear the results. I have my fingers crossed! I will post the results as soon as I get word.
As to the junkyard comment: while valid, I believe most of the first generation CR-Vs (1997-2001) have experienced the same problem, as the clock panel faces all these years of sunlight and heat exposure. Their clocks have died. With you helpful tutorial, most can be resurrected. BTW, mine has logged close to 400,000 miles.
this is a youtube video that one can use. Clock on my 2000 CRV stopped working 2 years ago. I removed it and really couldn't see any solder join that's cracked or worn so I added solder to every join. Put it back and it works. Thanks a lot.
Resoldering the surface mount resistors fixed mine as well. The issue comes from hot and cold swing breaking the part loose because the part doest stretch the little amount of solder they used breaks. Good vid!
Thanks so much! I had the same issue here and I cracked it open and, sure enough, the left two connections were slightly separated. I soldered it all anyways just because and it works now. One thing to be a little careful of is there are metal clips on those tabs when first prying the vent cover off with a straight slot screwdriver. I lost a couple of them as they fell inside.
Thanks. I have to try this someday. Also note: if you seem to have honda shut off during hot weather, this same issue is with main relay (not fuel pump)and would also need to be soldered. Did this and fixed that issue.
Hi Eddie, just wanted to say thanks for posting this! Ive just fixed mine, well pleased. All the best buddy.. Dermot from little old London, England.👍👍
Thanks, Eddie. A buddy of mine soldered a couple. I just need to replace it, now. The one we replaced it with works when it wants to, or you press on the face of the clock. Im gonna swap it back out for the original that's been soldered now.
Thanks for the video, my clock hadn't worked for a couple years but now it does! I didn't trust my soldering skills on something so small, so I used some "wire glue" (applied with a toothpick) instead. If it fails while I still own the car I will solder it.
It's a great little video! Love all the feedbacks. Surprised your review of our beloved little CR-V generated over 200,000 views! Eddie, for some (probably most from their feedbacks) uninitiated, it would be even more helpful if you show the actual soldering. Thanks.
Great video..I had the same problem with my crv clock.Like yours there were two cracked joints but i also had a joint under the led display which i had to remove to get to.... clock works great now.
Thanks for tip, however, after I've re-soldered these contacts (I even lifted up clock screen, desoldering its 2 contacts) and re-soldered the elements you've shown on both sides and clock started up, BUT not for long. it's on and off. I re-soldered connector contacts, but still the same picture: some loose contact playing prank with me.
I recall Honda wants about $200 for these. I have done this in a 1998 and 1999 Honda CRV that I owned. Neither took a very long time to do and was not very difficult. Of course, the first time was more time and more adventurous as I lost a clip. Honda likes them too! So take care as you snap them loose. I bought some yellow trim tools from Harbor Freight that I used the second time and that I have used for several other repairs. Well worth the $$$ if you are do-it-yourselfer. I also took out the board and resoldered the third chip first time and connections on back side. I saw on a forum somewhere that clock failure is extremely common in the 1st gen CRVs and improper solder was typical cause.
Eddie Carrara Hi Eddie, my clock stopped again after working for a few months, but I re-soldered those 2 points but really put some heat on them :) been working ever since, I don't think I heated it up enough the first time. Cheers.

Hey biggeidea, I had to use a magnifying glass too, but it's because my eyes are junk lol, glad you got it fixed, and thanks for the feedback :)
Worked great for my 1998. Bought $4 soldering iron from Harbor Freight. Thank you!
This is just what I've been looking for. Thanks for the video! I will pop my clock out and see if a little solder will fix it right up.
Hey Mark, we have had a lot of success from everyone who has tried the fix, let me know how you make out, thanks Mark.
Eddie Carrara Happy to report that it worked like a charm! Clock was fixed within 15 minutes. Wish I'd seen your video months ago!
Awesome Mark, glad I could help, and thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it :)
Wow, I'm so glad, my 2001 honda crv clock had exactly the same problem. Now is working fine. Thank you again.
Hey Flext40, that's great! Thanks for the update :)
Just fixed mine up thanks to this! Second square was all the way broken off! Was a PITA to solder that bad boy under the display screen lol but she works great now thanks 🙏🏾
You're welcome buddy, glad it worked for you 🍺
Thank u! Worked for me! My clock is on first time in 5 yrs it’s been out. found two cracked parts on two different things u showed on this video!
Hi Dan, this video is evergreen lol. Thanks for the feedback, Cheers 🍻
@@EddieCarrara1 sure is! Got me disassembling my radio for that crv and staring at its different computer boards as it goes in and out (off and on). Incoming power- constant and accessory/switch is present and ground seems ok when I tested it with my meter. Didn’t see anything as obvious as that clock though 🤦🏻♂️
@@dhos09 I think I still have my son's original CR-V Radio in my garage lol.
@@EddieCarrara1open to selling it at all?? I’m in the market for them. Been on eBay a lot, got a few I’m watching. Also they take an access code so that’d be needed. Or at least the vin number of vehicle and the serial number on radio should do- u can get code online with those two things.
@@dhos09 Sure where do you live? I can ship it to you, Just send me the address in an email Ed.Carrara@gmail.com Send me a picture of your radio as well so can see if mine matches.
just did this in the morning. clock wasnt working. I watched your video and wala. lol it works now. ty
Nice Omar :)
many thanks, it took 5 minutes to fix mine using your instructions
+Fritz the Cat, Awesome, thanks for the feedback :)
Eddie, many thanks for your time to post this fix.
I followed and in 10 minutes clock come back to life!!.
Regards from Argentina!.
+César S. Agüera Awesome, Glad I could help :) Thanks for the feedback.
Awesome got my clock working in 10 minutes thank you so much. Saved me $50
Hey, Flying Karapet that's great! Thanks for sharing👍
Worked great I have a shaky hand so I got the wife to add the solder. She did a great job thanks for the tip I got a clock from the wreckers had same problem.
Hey Leo, nice job! Thanks for taking the time to share 👍
Hey Justin, Good info, thanks for coming back to share. I think you'll have one happy customer (family member) :) let me know the results, thanks.
Hey Eddie, got a chance to plug in the clock and it works perfectly! You are the man, Thank you!
No Justin, you da man for coming back here with feedback, I really appreciate it :)
My clock now works again, thanks to you! You are RUclips at its best.
Thanks Elgordo, I appreciate the feedback :)
Wow, awesome! I just did 2, one for my old 99 and one for my "new" 2000 and it worked for both of them! Thanks so much for sharing. :)
Hi Cherie, thanks for the feedback, it's awesome you could fix both clocks, I didn't know the 99 clock was the same, thanks for sharing :)
this is a youtube video that one can use. Clock on my 2000 CRV stopped working 2 years ago. I removed it and really couldn't see any solder join that's cracked or worn so I added solder to every join. Put it back and it works. Thanks a lot.
Tan-Hai Nguyen Awesome, and thanks for the update, I really appreciate it Tan :)
Thanks man. Just tried it now and it worked. We just had to lift the clock because the loose connection was on the other end behind it.
Awesome Drewkit, thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback 👍
You rock for taking the time to post this. Thank you! Clock now working.
Hi David, That's great! Thank you for taking the time to post your results, I really appreciate it 👍
Resoldering the surface mount resistors fixed mine as well. The issue comes from hot and cold swing breaking the part loose because the part doest stretch the little amount of solder they used breaks.
Good vid!
Worked thank you haven’t seen that working for 10 years thanks again
Hey Pj, glad you got it working and thanks for sharing your results :)
Awesome Sonickchri, thanks for sharing 🍺
Hey man thanks . Just reheated the existing solder worked a treat. Thanks again.
Awesome Huw, thanks for sharing your experience. 🍻
Thanks. I have to try this someday. Also note: if you seem to have honda shut off during hot weather, this same issue is with main relay (not fuel pump)and would also need to be soldered. Did this and fixed that issue.
Good to know Steve, the main relay is a common problem on the older Hondas.
Hi Eddie, just wanted to say thanks for posting this! Ive just fixed mine, well pleased.
All the best buddy.. Dermot from little old London, England.👍👍
That's awesome Dermot! Thanks for the feedback. Funny I live in New England 😊
Thanks! Solder was cracked exactly where you showed. I also had a bad connection at the plug. I had to jimmy it around a bit to get it to work.
Sweet Matt, glad you got it working :)
Thank you, I did what ur vidies said and now my clock works great, thank you. You r our hero.
Great new Brice, happy to help :)
Thanks, Eddie. A buddy of mine soldered a couple. I just need to replace it, now. The one we replaced it with works when it wants to, or you press on the face of the clock. Im gonna swap it back out for the original that's been soldered now.
You're welcome. Let me know how you make out Mr. Peanut👍
@@EddieCarrara1 it's done. It looks so much better green, rather than that ugly/dim orange color. Big improvement!
@@EddieCarrara1 I took that red lens out.
@@boodro2122 Awesome! Thanks for the update 👍
Thanks.
Fixed my clock with this how-to. Thank you
You're welcome C Adams🍻
THANK YOU FOR KEEPING THE CRV ALIVE
Absolutely Shiekh 🍻
Great video. Short & to the point. Well explained. Thanks!!
Thanks Bill, let me know if it works for you 👍
Great video..I had the same problem with my crv clock.Like yours there were two cracked joints but i also had a joint under the led display which i had to remove to get to....
clock works great now.
+ant k Hey, thanks Ant K, I really appreciate the feedback :)
Thank you very much Eddie. After following your instructions it was fixed. Great video !
You're welcome Fanfan Joseph, thank you for taking the time to send feedback, I really appreciate it 😊
Thanks for tip, however, after I've re-soldered these contacts (I even lifted up clock screen, desoldering its 2 contacts) and re-soldered the elements you've shown on both sides and clock started up, BUT not for long. it's on and off. I re-soldered connector contacts, but still the same picture: some loose contact playing prank with me.
Sometimes the clocks are too far gone to repair, thanks for the feedback Serg.
Thank you so much for this! My clock is finally working after four years!
David Sparks That's awesome, thanks for the feedback Dave :)
Thank you Propain for the feedback, I really appreciate it!!
Thanks for the Video, watched it and was able to resolder a crack joint. Clock works great! Cheers!
Worked perfectly for me today. Thanks for posting this 👍
Awesome!
Thanks for the info Eddie, I'm going to fix mine this weekend!
Awesome Larry, let me know how you make out 🍻
Thank you Eddie. The clock now works again.
Awesome, always wondered how to pull the clock out! Cheers
Did it today, piece of cake. Lost 1 clip into the dash somewhere, but not an issue.
Awesome Rick, lost a clip, but the clocks works :) no biggie lol
Thanks for this, worked a charm and on exactly the same two places.
Hey that's great Jacques, I noticed a lot of them cracked in the same area. Thanks for the feedback.
I will show my husband this tutorial,i hope it works for us too.Thank you.
:-)
You're welcome Yari, good luck ;)
Thank you very much! It was very helpful :-) I followed and in 15 minutes clock come back to life. 2001 Gen1 Hungary from. Thankyou!!! :-)
+cosmomiki Awesome (: Thank you for your feedback.
Hi Eddie Thanks for the video it worked the first time and those exact 2 spots you showed. I was so happy when it turned on :)
Hey Clif, that's great!! I love to hear the success stories, so thank you for the update, I really appreciate it :)
Eddie Carrara Hi Eddie, my clock stopped again after working for a few months, but I re-soldered those 2 points but really put some heat on them :) been working ever since, I don't think I heated it up enough the first time. Cheers.
Hey Clif, thanks for the update, I'm sure that little bit of information will helps some readers :)
awesome video, I will go ahead and fix my 2001 Honda crv clock too. great video thanks.
No problem Flext40, glad I could help.
