- Essa é uma aula do professor Burne Hoggarth.
50% de tudo o que seu sei sobre desenho de construção, são dos livros desse mestre!
Eu aconselho TODA a obra desse professor. Procurem Em livrarias e Sebo. Vale a pena.
I also had Burne Hogarth as a teacher at School of Visual Arts in NYC in the 1950s, he was fantastic and it was wonderful to see this videos, I would like to see more also.
A 15 minute lesson on a lifetime of practice. Just amazing.
Indeed
Pure gold
this is a great video. I felt so insecure as I was drawing this and I thought I messed up so bad with the lessons but then the camera went to the students and, turns out they were drawing it as bad as I was! gave me a huge confidence boost.
I had Burne Hogarth for a teacher at Art Center in the mid 90's...I think I was in his last class before he passed in France. Great teacher, great info. Thanks for posting this...never thought I could see him do this again. He does the same lesson for the whole body too.
any links to other videos of him? This will help me in modeling anatomy in zBrush
This is why RUclips is gold. Thank you for this upload.
Flawless, beautiful portrayal of classical head proportions used by the old masters.....God I love this man. I could only hope to surpass his skills as an artist.
Andrew Loomis was Hogarth’s mentor and teacher. I love both these guys, but Hogarth’s methods are born out of the Loomis method....
Maravilhoso! Um grande mestre da forma humana - Burne Hogarth
During the summer of 1987, Burne Hogarth was my instructor at the ArtCenter College of Design. Reflecting back, I felt privileged by being his pupil of this legendary artist, who once illustrated the Tarzan Sunday comic strips! ~Arnold Doong
Great class! Thanks for posting
Wow, master of masters at work. Just amazing.
I don't know how I learned to draw a head as well as I do, but I wish I had learned what and how he teaches from the very start! No matter what you think ...you know, this is the best head tutorial I've ever witnessed! If you wish to learn; I would lock on to this method; this is tops!
Thank you for this video, Raul. I got a great lesson.
Vlw por esse upload, Tabajara :). E eu só vi agora afff! abraço
Great video. Thanks for posting. I have a few of his books and it is great to see the man behind them teaching. Definitely one to watch and rewatch.
loved all his books--thaannks so much for positing this
I feel like such a beginner but I won't give up. This is the first step in my goals.
uno de los mejores videos que he visto a cerca de como dibujar la cara.
This is so nice! What a gem!
Amazing work by amazing artist thank you
the best in depth tutorial for drawing the face ive seen on youtube.
This was an amazing find. Thanks for posting this!
I was going through some books and came across my (20 year old) Hogarth's Dynamic figure, face and hands collection. I had no idea he had videos. Thanks for posting this, very motivating.
Muito obrigado pelo video. Isto é uma joia! Cuide o original!
Awesome vid. A true legend
His characters breath with dignity and look so aristocratic. I like his style so much. I will strive to learn this to be imprinted in my memory. I am struggling for now but its going to be better.
Nice video btw.I enjoyed so much

WOOOWW!! this is amazing, i have this book from Burne H. and now with this video i`m so excited how easy and simplyfied can be drawing the head and planting the planes,
thank you very much.
woah! very amazing!
Thank you for sharing this!
Amazing! Thanks for posting!
This is awesome!
This guy is amazing.
Thanks so much for posting this!
I kept 3 of his books on the shelf for years because I didn't 'like'his blockish, contorted style. Wasn't until I had to draw figures without the use of photos or models consistently, that I understood what he was teaching and communicating. Burne Hogarth knew his stuff, and was able to articulate it. I began to see how profound he was,and how much thought he's put into his lessons.Wanna explore his mind? The ComicsJournal featured him in two massive interviews years back. Wotta guy! Some do not respond to his teaching approach because it's more left-brain than right- brain. Analytical, not intuitive.Try to pay attention, and try to catch up. THANK YOU for sharing this video. It's a gem.
Great comment, I feel exactly the same. Just opened Dynamic Anatomy after 15 years on the shelf and I’m realizing how amazing his teaching is!
Awesome Share!
Clase magistral....siempre le recordaremos.
I feel blessed to hav got to watch him draw live in the video.
Que bueno soy un artista plastico de Bs As Argentina que ha aprendido mucho con los libros de Hogarth mi agradecimiento a el que Dios lo tenga en su gloria
Thank you, this isperfect
Turn this into a cool drinking game. Take a sip every time he says characteristic!
Burne Hogarth is my idol when it comes to drawing human anatomy!
I'll just go sit in my corner and cry now... this is just insane!
True master.
So awesome
great master
a friend gave me the video three years ago. He had an old videotape and converted to AVI. According to my friend, an uncle had brought the tape of the U.S. ... He converted the video and threw out the videotape. (Im from Brazil)

un tesoro de video GJ (y)
master !
I remember the first time I heard of Burne Hogarth was from a friend who had his book back in 2005/2006. I went to a Borders book store in 2007 and found that same book for $20.00 to $30.00 and purchased it. Still have that same book to this day
eccezzionale!! grande disegnatore e grande insegnante...ho alcuni suoi testi
Fantastic
Excellent
I have four and one half of his originals. Three of them he signed to me. One was done directly on top of one of my drawings in his class. We were drawing a very large woman. He came by, looked at my drawing, said "She has HIPS!" He drew a perfect Venus of Willendorf in blue chalk, over my pencil drawing. The one half was some drawing he did on top of another drawing. He did not obliterate it, he just showed me how to refine my drawing.
The best master is the one that makes you dislike them
Why?
must be amazing to see this master in action! Sadly he passed away before I was born.
excellent!
Now let me try and sketch a head, rotate it 3/4 view, add eyes, nose, mouth, etc in fifteen minutes. I didn’t do it well. I must practice more but thanks to this video on RUclips I’ve got a little more time.
Thanks for posting the video; it’s a motivating drawing demonstration.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
this dude draws his whole life.... dont pressure yourself... take your time and do as best as you can at the moment. You will get better gradually
👍🏽
Thanks!
Thanks for posting this!
Does anyone know if recordings of other Hogarth lectures exist?
You should blessed my Friend for this !
O mestre em ação! Será que tem mais vídeos?
Cool
where the hell did you find this???? Amazing lecture
thanx!
Awesome stuff you know what they say old but gold also , can anybody be so kind as to tell me what he's using to draw?
Really wish there were more videos of him drawing
excellent
That hatchet editing tho
I'm surprised some people of the paswere still left handed despite at that time left handedness was discouraged.
My aunt is still left handed because when she started school, her right harm was broken.
This was so great! I shall study and practice this. Does Hogarth have demos on the head from different angles?
thanks
wow.
Like
1:57 cameraman liked that woman. So do I.
While the video seems antiquated it's still a sound approach. He is really looking to build the structure and mass of the head. Too often begining artists concentrate only on features and their drawings end up looking very flat. Hogarth starts by building a "cranial mass."
8 years...
It is very different to see him draw than to see one of his books. His style and technique are hard to grasp by looking at static images (contrary to loomis) but they simply connect when you watch him do it.
IT WOULD BE LIKE GETTING TREASURE IF I FIND BURNE HOGARTH'S OLD TUTORIAL VEDIOS. CAN PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND MORE ????
Nossa, animal!
Lucky!
I suggest you study the functional structure of it in greys anatomy since you apparently have internet access, let me find us a link...
OK, the actual document you want is:
Anatomy of the Human Body
Henry Gray
- January 1, 1918
Lea & Febiger
- Publisher
Note pages on and around 384(the digitization has a numerical offset, check actual page for page #) are relevant.
You can make a library on Google play, I would suggest you look up "the literary works of l. Da Vinci as well.
All very good reads.
que técnico
procure os livros dele. Sâo bem interessantes! Pra vc começar a ter noçao de profundidade e algumas dicas avançadas, são bem legais!
He is using Nupastel chalk. He would always use three colors. Brown, black, blue. Or, Red, black, blue. I know this because I spent a year studying with him.
CrateofStolenDirt The paper is rough newsprint. The roughness of the surface is what breaks up the chalk . Still, it's too bad that they are on newsprint of any kind. The paper eats itself up. acid.
Where there any other videos?
Borne Hogarth vs Andrew loomis... READY FIGHT!
that who is teaching 7s jy great grand father
His drawings lessons are responsible for the best compliments I have ever received in my life. I am very grateful for that !
Now to rewatch this video 99 more times until I can accurately recreate it.
which material is he using?
For everyone who's interested in this, you can also check out the Hale lectures on RUclips ... another master at work :)
This was a vhs tape that was made probably in 1989. He wasn't satisfied with the quality, so no more were made.
es calamardo hermoso ajja :P
where did you get this?....I had Burne Hogarth as a teacher at Parsons School of Design a long time ago. Do you have any more?
10:50 handsome squidward
I prefer the loomis method but actually is still a good method.
Look at the channel. I Have some videos using the loomis method to create a head in 3d! ;)
Burne Hogarth was my first contact with art books o proportion methods. I understand that loomis is more accurate, but i still love the books os hogarth
Ilustradicas Raul Tabajara I’ll check your content I think every method is for different people
