Hello! Thank you for your video. I just replaced the air filter on my 2022 Sienna XLE. I just found that my air filter cover(upper side, the one you lifted) did not have any white filter-like cover under it. Do Toyota remove that cover on 2022 model? Or it comes with only higher trims?

Hi Kyung. I did a bunch of research to try and figure this out. I also re-checked mine to see what that "white part" was exactly. It appears to be some kind of non-removable charcoal filter. (at least that's what it looks like) It's definitely not a removable or replaceable part as it's permanently fixed to the air cleaner cover. My guess is that this has something to do with meeting California emissions. Our van, while purchased in NV meets CA emission standards. You will find an emissions sticker on the underside of the hood. I suspect that some Siennas were not made for sale in CA and might not meet the same emission standards. And I also suspect that the charcoal filter has something to do with this. So my question to you, what state did you buy the van and does it have a california emissions sticker under the hood? I could be way off here.....this is just a theory.

@@DadDoingStuff Thank you for your reply. I also emailed to Toyota and waiting for their reply. I live in just north of LA and purchased the van last year at NorthHollywood Toyota. I checked my 2010 FJ Cruiser which we bought at 2010 in California has the white lining attached(It looks quite functional, even if I forget to install the air filter, it seems working as a filter). I will update if I have any info updated. Thank you very much!!

@@DadDoingStuff I will check the emissions sticker when available. My wife took the car out. Thank you.

@@pagani1004 Well, there goes my theory about CA emissions! LOL! Yeah I'm very curious to see if they started using a different air cleaner assembly in 2022 vs. 2021. (not sure why they would, but I guess that's possible) Please send a note if you find anything out. Given every model has the same engine, I can't imagine it's anything to do with the trim level.

Thanks for your videos! Empowering fellow Sienna owners to do it on their own. My Toyota service tech asked if I felt comfortable changing the filters myself to save money. A quick google search and I found your channel. Thanks to the both of y’all, I saved money and now I’m practically a mechanic. Okay, maybe not quite. Thanks again!

Where is the best place to buy filters? Amazon? How often can you clean the filters yourself? How would I clean; by vacuum? No water? Thanks.

I wouldn’t try to clean these unless you got one that is specifically for cleaning and re-use. K&N is usually the brand tho look at, but I don’t know if they make one for this van.
