I no longer want any Tesla and I have conceded that Musk is just as shitty as the other billionaires. i think one thing that more electric car manufacturers need to take into account is that the absolute monstrously massive majority of people own pre-owned cars, some of which are older than 20 years.
    If car companies want their electric alternatives to take over the market, they must first get their vehicles into circulation.

    • @Trekki200
      @Trekki200 Год назад +5

      Yeah, and it's somewhat unlikely that that's going to happen anytime soon. For one electric cars are significantly more expensive and thus will also be more expensive pre-owned. And for another, it seems that many of them are actually more sturdy than traditional cars, which may motivate owners to keep them longer, which will reduce the amount available for purchase used.

      i mean, obviously a brand new electric car has greater longelivity than a 20 year old volvo or 30 year old volkswagen.
      but the fact is that its generally cheaper to buy one or several used cars, take all the best bits from each of them into a single functioning car, and then sell the scrap.

    One area that this hasn't addressed is the self driving capabilities. There have now been several fatal accidents caused by the self driving mode. There were also multiple reports of it behaving and acting erratically with it randomly breaking and accelerating.
    Now the reason why this is potentially a big problem for tesla is that they have rushed this system out way before it was ready. If this can be demonstrated then they could be in some serious legal trouble with potential prison sentences handout and these can go all the way to the top.

    • @Jupa
      @Jupa Год назад +1

      Yes, this nearly killed me on the M2. I didn’t even have the bloody auto drive assists on, not even cruise. It saw some kind of ghost and mashed itself into a halt from 75mph, no time or control to even move into the hard shoulder. And then it glued itself in an open motorway lane for 20-30 seconds before giving me drive again.
      The repair? The online service support did a diagnosis and updated the issue. Didn’t even tell me what it was. I’ve driven thousands of miles on lane and radar cruise on dozens of different cars. And none of them functioned nearly as badly as the Tesla’s (driven the Y and the 3). Which was the reason I stopped using the assists at all. Think I was now safe with agency over the car, it did the phantom brake. Maybe its so smart and self autonomous it was angry that I had no faith in its autopilot system and took its revenge by giving me PTSD.

      I think TLDR missed this part. Their "self-driving" system was a con. They thought they could make it up after promising it already worked and they failed. It only counts as self-driving if you can watch Harry Potter on the way to work, Tesla can't meet this standard. I don't think they have the engineering talent to make a real autonomous vehicle and that maybe it will be Google who figures it out instead.

  • @Jupa
    @Jupa Год назад +8

    I’ve had two. Model Y 2020 and then swapped for Model 3 2022 (work related).
    When it was time to return the model 3 I was already waiting to see it go.
    The model Y had shoddy QC issues. Panel gaps, jarring interior and door panel issues. The few buttons that exist got stodgy. But I didn’t care it wasn’t my car so whatever.
    Model 3 the quality was fine. Not Mercedes level, but it wasn’t jarring so it was good. The problem wasn’t the build quality anymore but the tech/software. Specifically the auto assist functions.
    I’ve driven dozens of cars thousands of miles with lane assist and radar cruise. Not one of them felt as awry and stressful as the Tesla’s. Especially when it’s method lane keeping is by bumping into the road lines and then correct itself to bump into the other line continuously. Even on the roads I’ve seen other Tesla’s and I can tell they’ve activated the ‘self drive’ by how they play the pong with the road lines continuously.
    It’s like baby sitting a potential death trap. It didn’t take the stress out of driving it made it more mentally taxing.
    So naturally I just stopped using it except for cruise control and even then only when the roads clear enough and during the day because they made a software update to make the self drive camera lenient rather than radar.
    Even with the caution of deactivating its groundbreaking self driving tech. It still wasn’t enough for it to resist the urge to not kill me.
    The final straw was during a drive in an empty motorway at night. 75mph or so, using my own hands and feet to get home as if it wasn’t a brand new £55k car. From literally nothing it decided to completely mash the brakes from 75 to a halt no time or control given to me to at least take it to the hard shoulder. And then it glued itself in the middle of an open motorway lane for what felt like a lifetime (maybe 20-30 seconds maybe more i wasn’t counting on account of nearly having a stroke).
    If there was a car behind me it would’ve been a write off absolutely. Hell it probably have me whiplash anyway from the jolt. Then it decided to give me back my Drive gear and go home like nothing happened. Since then I was terrified of using it. I contact service support but this wasn’t unique to me. I went on the Tesla forums and this is a well known occurrence. But seemingly given different responses from service support. Mine service person, which was entirely online btw, just did a super cool futuristic diagnosis via the cloud. They then said they’ve looked into my logging data and updated the system and it is now resolved. We will close the ticket now kthxbye.
    Tesla is not good neither mechanically nor in its technical development. It doesn’t help that the lads back in the Tesla forums would defend it by saying ‘ICE cars always do this stuff it’s normal why do you always see those on the side of the road?’ Just complete denial instead of urging Tesla to get their shit together.
    From then on I couldn’t drive that car in the motorway with any passengers if I had any good conscience. Which is still pathetic because even if it was going to kill me I was still risking the lives of other drivers. And there was no way out of that, I didn’t use any of the electronic assists and yet it wouldn’t give me the privilege to bear full responsibility to control it. It felt nauseating being a secret liability to other road users like a drunk driver would be.
    So I was waiting eagerly to get rid of it, so I can start driving with passengers again on long drives.
    Oh and my cousin owns an model X and it ran its face into the wall at Bluewater car park lol

    This video is weird because it takes several qualitative considerations and draws conclusions from them, forgetting quite important quantitative aspects that should not be forgotten. How many cars does Tesla sell every quarter, compared to one year before? And how many do the old manufacturers, compared to their own previous numbers? And how much profit does Tesla make on every car? And how much profit do the old manufactures make? These figures show fundamental differences between a company that sustains a very strong growth, and companies that struggle to maintain their old stable sales and revenues. In addition, those companies have often massive debts, so a reduction of revenues can have dramatic consequences for them, while for Tesla it is going to be less damaging.

    There really needs to be more nuance to this. Tesla does have a massive share of the electric car market: 21% last year, with the next-nearest rivals the Chinese SAIC with 13%, and Volkswagen Group with 10%. And from just four models, compared to 9 for VW Group.
    There are legitimate concerns about their ongoing delays, variable quality control, some dubious ideas in feature design and company management, and the negative PR value of Elon Musk. But they have achieved a hugely dominant position in the EV space, one of the most dominant positions in a global market sector for any postwar car manufacturer, and any criticism with even a hint of balance really needs to be leavened by that.

    Guys, this is not it. Comparing different companies on their PE-ratio is just very shortsighted. Yes, the PE-ratios of other automakers are low compared to Tesla and well, most companies despite the industry. It's beacuse of many reasons, one of which WallStreet expect those car companies to make less money in the future. They currently sell highly profitable ICE vehicles, which will eventually be phased out. Not only is producing an electric vehicle very difficult, it's also much more expensive. So, altough their current PE-ratio makes their stock looks cheap, their earnings will probably not grow and will most likely shrink overtime. With shrinking earnings, to keep the PE-ratio the same, the price of the stock has to go down..

    It's not right to just compare Tesla's P/E to other car companies because Tesla's revenue growth rate is much higher. It deserves higher P/E. The biggest problems of Tesla is that it loses market share quickly and cuts price. Earnings in this year has to be adjusted lower. If it continues to lose market share, it will become just an ordinary electric car company and lose its competitive advantage. Smaller market share will let Tesla have less money to develop self-driving funtion and lose its competitiveness in this field, too.

    May I point out that concluding that EV customers are less loyal to car brands based on the fact that they tend to trade in cars from different manufacturers doesn't make a lot of sense. EVs are very new to the market and there aren't a lot of choices or well stablished reputation for them, plus most brands don't even have a (decent) EV in their line up, so most people wanting to buy an EV for the first time naturally HAVE to change brands, simply because there are so few viable options, specially at lower price brackets. The true test of EV loyalty is what they buy AFTER their first EV. Do they stick to their brand or look for something else? Tesla customers, for one part, seem to be fiercly loyal, seeing how they put up with bad customer service and long waits for newer models.
