- A little late getting this review out there, but it's A24's' latest and greatest, so I gotta make sure to throw my 2 cents into the ring somewhere, ya know?
But yeah, I really enjoyed this one...
I found I Saw the TV Glow quite entrancing. It definitely hearkens back to, and captures this 90s aesthetic through and through, with some analog horror elements as well. The entire film feels like a liminal space, and many of the themes within it captures that concept. I love how open and etherial this film is, and that it does not confine itself to one idea or concept. It allows for the viewer to make sense of it on their own. Solid review, man.
I feel like the abrupt ending is especially intentional, given it's how the show within the film ended as well.
MovieMan, I must ask if you’ve considered watching the Interview with the Vampire series…Or even just the pilot to see if you dig it? Literally the best show on tv now. 98% rotten tomatoes score. I love your commentary and insights so im desperate to hear your thoughts on it😅. All IWTV reactions get 1500+ views per ep.
Does it follow along with the OG movie? 👀 I keep having people ask me about this one and I’m starting to consider it 😅
No, but it’s way better than the movie imo. Fleshes out the story way more and honestly I’m in love with the actors playing the characters.
@@MovieMan101 based on the same book but better in every way…. It’s a masterclass of acting, writing, production. Honestly, just watch the pilot ep and you’ll understand.
We're All Going To The World's Fair is similarly opaque (no pun intended) to I Saw The TV Glow. It doesn't give you the answers. It really just lets you observe the characters and make your own interpretations.
I really enjoy media like that, where there may not be a clear point or story, but instead something more along the lines of an "experience" that you can extrapolate from and interpret.
"a good film starts once the credits roll"
That's such a fascinating concept. I've been criticizing the film for being more fun to talk about than actually watch. But maybe that's a point in it's favor.
I think there's validity to both sides of the conversation. I think films can have you talking about them afterwards and yet still be a complete experience/story or have a little less ambiguity. Granted, I like the weird and experimental shit, so even if it's not a wholly complete experience, it's still mostly right up my alley!
