About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday, we can transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.
The laws that allow anyone with a gun to enter your property, unannounced is astounding…..
Yeah officer, I just saw a figure creeping in my back yard. They started yelling at me about "I can be here if I want" when I told them to get down so... can you identify the body?
Indeed... VERMONT HAS A WHOLE LOT TO LEARN ... BY EXAMPLE.. FROM THE PROUD LONESTAR STATE OF TEXAS ...
VERMONT HAS A WHOLE LOT TO LEARN ... BY EXAMPLE.. FROM THE PROUD LONESTAR STATE OF TEXAS ... and how ranch owners there will deal with such SHAMELESS UNCIVILIZED TRESPASSERS ...
All your work on the hound hunting issue is making me brave enough to go to my zoning board this week and talk about some farming limitations in the zoning! Thank you!!
Good luck with your zoning board! Good on you for taking action.
Trespassing much? Safety on your own property much? And how about the fire bombing? Difficult to be reasonable with folks behaving like that. And frankly - who wants to live in a state that allows this?
I sincerely hope your reasonable perspective is not drowned out by the dangerous crazies with the poor boundaries or the outrageously well-connected and funded lobbies backing them.
❤turkeys!!
People who move here get zero warning that this is a thing.
Imagine when they legalize chopper hunting like the hog hunters in Texas lol
@@krazykrew1234567890 Texas is really jealous about property rights, amirite?
there are loons, and then there are LOONS
I'm so proud of you for getting involved with the legislature! I could have lived anywhere for my retirement, but I chose the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. There are so many things about it that I love, but that doesn't mean that there aren't some things that need work, hound hunting laws being one of them.
Hounding is a problem everywhere
Greetings from Laos. You're an amazing farmer. Very respectable and a good person. My elementary students in my country love watching your videos.
That is very impressive! Congratulations to them for learning ethical farming.
Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
The tree line between pastures are so important for wildlife. They have become the feel safe highway and hopefully a source of food as they move . In my area, i have been so sad to see them disappear as they are considered a mess or difficult to mow around..
Nice job! Wishing you victory over trespassers!
I’m a conservative, freedom seeds loving conspiracy theorist type person and I even think the hound hunting laws in VT are crazy. If they can’t control the dogs at all times, and don’t know exactly where they are, the hounds shouldn’t be used in THAT situation.
Imagine those hog chopper hunters instead of dogs lol
The problem all boils down to the definition of "control." These people think they are "in control" of a dog if they have a GPS tracker on it. I can't think of any other situation where that would constitute control.
@@MrThedrachenI totally agree, could you picture putting a tracker on your kid and leaving them for hours, possibly miles away from home, and thinking “I’m in complete control of my kid right now” 😂
I'm a leftist but it seems really weird to me that these conservatives support this because what they're advocating for is basically extreme socialism where no one really owns property and it's shared. I'm pretty sure they only care about what benefits them
I know some parents who would be ok with that!@@ashep129
Are you going to install some fire alarm in the hatchery? Might be smart since you will have a heat source there
And that’s what I would like to hear, Morgan Gold wants to hatch turkeys. Gold Shaw Farm needed one more bird flock to be added which is turkeys! Well Morgan can’t wait for the hatchery to be done and those geese eggs surprised me😅 CAN’T WAIT FOR ALL OF THE ADVENTURE🎉
They raise themselves almost. We keep them and they basically spend the entire year in our pastures winter or summer.
Let them have water and they seriously are cheaper then chickens.
When you initially spoke of hound hunting, I had to go read up about it. Then, I went to Vermont laws regarding it. That training is allowed in the off season means bears w cubs are harassed almost year round.
I also read about the commissioner once upon a time considered changing the law/rules but flipped after speaking with unknown parties.
Carry on
The fact that you have to testify on something which should be common sense shows how lunatic society has gone. If a landowner DOESN'T GIVE YOU PERMISSION, END OF STORY.
These "City" paid workers paid no visual attention to this tax payer! I would fire these "City" workers. If these employees can't take the allotted time to pay attention to the ppl that pay their wages, and pave everyone's roads why do they deserve to represent their County? Embarrassing! Businesses that pay taxes, and are taking time off from making ends meet from their business to dispute incorrect laws, with not appropriate mutual respect is really not a good business model. ... Hello!?
@@nodigBKMiche What are you talking about? That was a committee of legislators taking testimony from citizens about making a law.
@@AbandonedMaine yes... and STATE legislators at that!
Preconceived stereotypes (fed from easy mass media) have a way of blinding people to actual constructive things.
Maybe next dog, or with Toby, have him get in the truck just for treats and no ride frequently. Then move it to get in the truck for a fun adventure occassionally. That way his truck adventures aren’t always going to a stress place
I started my pups just putting them in first then a treat and out. Next start engine next drive up and down the drive then just round the block etc and a reward each time it worked! Going to vet just gobthere walk round let pup meet the vet and go home. Baby steps with everything
Good advice, and it’s never too late to start training something.
@@sswwooppee true! Old dogs can learn new tricks but nowhere nrsr as good as pups
@@marleneclough3173 I actually think it’s even more important with a geriatric canine, in some ways, to have the mental challenge of training. As their physical abilities diminish their need for the stimulation and energy outlet remains intact. Frequently training is the only way to burn off that energy.
@@sswwooppee exactly! Mpst folks just dont understand that training is mental stimulation and will tire and calm the dog better thsn a long walk
Will be a nice hatchery when you are finished. 👏👏 I'm waiting anxiously for Toby Dogs test results. He's a fabulous dog. It's great to hear Abby barking an alarm that intruder turkeys were about.
Oh man the hound hunters remind me of when I lived in Carver, and town meetings were insane - because of a few crazies who refused to be fingerprinted in order to get their g*n licenses, and were trying to oust the chief of police over it (even tho it's a state law, not a town law, so ousting her would have solved nothing), it would take 3 nights, from 7pm to 10pm each night, just to get through 50 or so articles and funding that needed voting on.
They held up the funding for the libraries, the fire department, the schools, all of it.
The craziest part was they claimed Carver wasn't a part of the US (don't ask me why, it was some kind of deliberate misinterpretation of the town charter), so they didn't need to follow state, federal or town laws.
I used to bring my crocheting and just sit in the HS auditorium listening to them ramble while people booed them, which only made them more determined to, yeah, idek what it made them more determined to do.
They'd usually be tossed out at the 2 hour mark so we could get through at least some of the articles up for voting on.
And they'd go through the same nonsense every. Dang. Night.
What a bunch of fuckmuppets.
Holy crap. They really were CRAZY. Those sorts are always the type who need benefits provided as being a part of the USA too.
Up vote for 'fuckmuppets'.
//clap
If they believed they aren't part if the US, i would have called ICE on them
At 4:40 You can see a coyote/fox body Parallel with Abby at the upper fence!
WOW thats a lot of turkeys, and you said you might hatch some this year! I'm so excited!
A nail gun! I so want a nail gun. I told my late husband I wanted a nail gun. What did he get me? A table saw. A table saw is nice, but it's not a nail gun.
Did he secretly want a table saw?
I asked for a hammer drill for Christmas!. I got it. No prize for guessing who fixed things in the house
@@marleneclough3173 his response was that a table saw was more useful. Maybe, but a nail gun was what I wanted.
@@candymadigan9308 No reason NOT to get one for yourself now instead!
Maybe you wanted the nailgun a little bit too much, and he had seen Mannequin.
You’re so loving towards those animals, it’s lovely to watch 🥰❤
The fact that you have wild turkeys living abundantly on your farm should really show you your progress so far. I can honestly say it's been a pleasure witnessing!
“Trained KILLERS!!” Oh my goodness!! LOL😂
Pablo the cat's kill quota is doubtless orders of magnitude more than the dogs'. And the only drug he has is catnip. (Pun on the infamous Mexican Senor Escobar.)
I always melt, even in the winter, when you get to the one and only Toby dog and Abby Dabby Doo... :)
I love Pablo, even though he always greets Morgan with a clawy grab and a chomp. Could this be Pablo's version of a fist bump? "Ay master, am ready to deal with more rodents today!"
Well done, Morgan...testimonially and carpenterly! 🤠 Poor Toby hates to leave the farm.🚜🚜🚜 Hey - I want Allison's salmon leftovers!!!
The shots after the court are hilarious! A brilliant way to deal with anger and frustration is create things. Well done❣💯
Well, you're getting there Morgan, lol, it's hard when there are lots of other day to days constantly interrupting. Hopefully Toby dog's results will be A Ok, he's such a good boy. Thanks for taking us along, hope the meeting about hunters controlling their doggos comes up with the right results. See ya soon for part 4.👍💕🐕🦆🐓
He can have as much lemon as he likes, but please no Lyme....
Thank you for sharing the news about the hound hunting, Morgan. Would be very interested in hearing from those hunters if they decide to have a conversation with you.
Virginia is facing similar issues, similar problems with hound hunters. Good luck.
That drone is a godsend!
I recommend old tires as a nest option for the geese! They work great on my farm ^^
I’m a bit surprised you didn’t put fiberglass insulation batts under the floor deck?? Also from my own experience building our chicken coops. Apply sanding sealer to the plywood floor. Lightly sand, vacuum up dust, tack cloth then apply a second coat of sanding sealer. It made hosing out the coops easier.
I didn’t do this in my coops but I suggest putting down simple plastic mats of some description where there will be foot traffic in the hatchery. Something easily taken up and hosed off outside the barn. This will tend to help keep the hatchery more sanitary over time.
Mark Fay
I really love and respect your tenacity and patience with an unfortunately contentious and dangerous situation. Funny how suddenly property rights have to take a back seat to uncontrolled dogs and hunters, regardless of either common sense safety or conformity to the law!
Going up against an old-boy/family tradition has got to be difficult. It verges into the outlaw.
Hi...... Morgan Nice to see you Love watching your video homestead bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍👌👌👌
That hatchery ended up twice as complicated and significantly more expensive than what I would do, but you can be proud to have done it well enough without any outside help.
Don't forget to apply a mold preventing treatment on the inside layer of plywood, the heat and humidity of a hatchery make an almost ideal environment for pretty much any kind of fungus. I would also apply a fire retardant on the wood, on both sides. There are commercial water-based mixtures that do both (and discourage wood burrowing insects as well), they're a bit pricey but will save you quite a bit of time and effort. I live in Europe so I can't recommend you a specific product because I don't know what's available in your stores, but these things are pretty popular so you shouldn't have trouble finding such a multipurpose wood treatment, some include a water vapor sealant as well so you won't need any other finishing on top of it. This thing can be applied with a simple paintbrush so you don't any specialized equipment and when I say pricey I mean like $80 a gallon (if my math is right converting from euros and liters), you shouldn't need more than a couple gallons to cover the whole thing inside and out.
That large group of turkeys was great.
I'm glad you are able to be a part of the process for change and hope there is a reasonable outcome.
Re: getting things done. It doesn't get any better, even when you're retired. Projects/chores always expand to overfill the time available.
3:35 RUclips dog trainer Stonnie Dennis once said "don't own a dog bigger than you can pick up." You validated that rule today!
Could a loading ramp help here?
Turkey Lurking!!!!
I'm with Toby, leaving the house sucks so much.
I agree with you that so many things in life get in the way of things needing to be done. However, everything is usually something that needs to be done. This year, I've started getting ready for my warmer weather activities now rather than next month when I usually would. I know stuff will get in the way, but with me starting my projects early that means I can have stuff get in the way and it wont matter in the end.
The turkeys enjoying coyote free zone^^
The dog knows where you trying to take him. He will not go willingly :)))))
It's the V-word.
Keep up all your good efforts to reign in the hound hunters, Morgan'! I'm on your side. I consider hound hunting inhumane and dangerous to both animals and humans.
You're making great progress on the hatching room in your new barn. I can't wait to see it when it's finished. Hope Toby's test results are O.K.
You think that’s inhumane. You should see hog chopper hunting
@@krazykrew1234567890 One thing being worse doesn't make another situation any less bad. Just one more thing to stand up against.
Morgan, you are very well spoken. I hope the legislators in VT listen to you.
I know you think you’d have a conversation with people who would truly listen to you but I’m sure that wouldn’t be the case. In their mind you’re against them and they only think of that. There will be no taking to them.
Nice to see the hatchery coming along! ❤
To grow greater public awareness of the farm and its mission might be the only thing that would help. These chaps surely can't be living on islands 24/7 and never hearing from ANYBODY else. Peacham should be proud of Morgan, maybe even coordinate in putting up a billboard in salute. The main fly in such an ointment as I see it is that Morgan really isn't set up to make the farm a tourist attraction, even though he has thought about it. People would like to have somewhere to go to see what the farm is about. Maybe QR codes and a tinyurl for his videos?
I'm excited yr outta yr elements. So cool. More vlogs.
That is a massive flock!
Building A Bird Hatchery: A New Hope
Glad to see that the struggle is coming to an end, lol.
i like the will fit all hammer ... nothing changes for a round the world tool
Thank you for doing what you do and for sharing it all with us. 💗
Have a look for those rubber spike strips what you can put on fences that deter cats and birds from walking/roosting on them, you could put them on the pallets you created the goose nesting area, they might help ♥️👋🇬🇧
Good for them, I hope they stand their ground.
The hatchery is looking great! I think that you're a really nice person. Those hound hunting laws are crazy. Toby did a good job.
Love watching you and the animals interact! 😊😊
Your farm improvement projects are outstanding. In the future, they will pay off BIG TIME!👍👍👍
i love all your building videos. thanks for the gov update.
Oh sweetie Toby and Abby...LOL turkeys!! We have them in my hometown also, hah!
That nail gun looks like fun! Hope your cause is triumphant!
Yes, life gets in the way of life. And having a project always means that this has to happen before the next thing has to happen in order to get the project done.
All progress is good progress, Morgan!
Love the turkeys!
I wondered why it was taking you so long to finish this project. Yes life does happen. It's good people are seeing that you have many different things going on at the same time. Like most of us do. I want place an order for a tom turkey. 😄👍🏻⭐
It's looking good!
Nice work on all of those projects.
Happy that tobby is all good
Thanks for the turkey coverage! They join coyotes, black bears, bobcats, crows, robins, bald eagles, and quite a few other animals as being present in most US states. Your turkeys look a lot smaller and darker compared to the ones I see here in Salt Lake City, where people feed them, and they are at least as annoying as pigeons in the parks. In my neighborhood for several years there has been a flock with typically a couple of toms and half a dozen hens. They can be quite aggressive against pets and people, and destructive of garden crops. While they spend most of their time on the ground, they can easily fly to rooftops or 50 feet up a tree when the spirit moves them.
Getting there!
Toby volunteered 'cause he knows he's going home! Good boy.
I’m hatching my first birds soon, getting eggs delivered on Friday! Great video as always.
I wonder how much technology plays a role in the trespassing issue. Now that folks have cameras and can definitively document these events and show the world what is happening in Peacham Vermont and elsewhere, things should change and maybe your concerns will not fall on deaf ears. Hope you disclose the outcome of the hearing, You will definetly have to step up security for yourselves and your farm if it goes your way.
This is RJ... Love the video of you driving through Danville...
We had problems here in Arkansas with road hunters in my county this year. One of them unalived a pet pig about five feet from the 5 yo owner on the kid's parents' property. They will walk up onto people's properties to "get their kill." They drive along our dirt roads on their 4-wheelers looking for deer or invasives (Pigs, goats, and a few others)
There has to be something especially mean about them doing that.
Smart that you chose to use continuous insulation vs the fiberglass blankets
Lol... Ginny's tail looked like a Davey Crockett tail, but sticking up... 😊😊😊
I actually am enjoying these 15ish minute, almost daily videos!!! I always look forward to what is going on on the farm... you're always real... showing the good, bad, difficult, embarrassing etc moments...
You should see the chicken coop (I know you're building a hatchery but...) that was built on a channel I follow... you might need to up your game a bit...😂😂😂
And holy 🦃🦃🦃!!!
Also... can we have more Alison please??? Thanks!!!
Goldshaw farm wow you are making Progress yey good job Morgan
WOW that's a lot of turkeys I counted about 60 of them that i could see. & there was more in hiding. & in you 2ed part I had counted 54 of them.there could be a lot more.
I like how you said what a mild winter you are having while you crunch across snow, lol. My area here in NC did not get any snow at all this cold season. Wat to go on testifying. Private property is private property and people should not be allowed to traipse through whenever they want, with their dogs or no.
Thanks ans less hope hound laws are changed.....Morgan Gold you are the man 👍
Old nasty Shoe🇺🇸
@4:41 looks like a Canid on your property, Abby pointed right at it.
There is a dog-like looking animal in the back field in the shot of abby dog running towards the camera at the beginning of your turkey segment.
Fighting the good fight!
The hatchery is coming along nicely…did I miss the electrical part yet? I thought you might want to install that before the walls and insulation. I’m sure you will. Be glad when it’s done.
I did too and made some comments to earlier videos about it. It kind of looked to me like the outlet was poised to be boxed into a corner, unless I misunderstood the layout. Maybe that part of the finish will be trimmed away or the electrical otherwise modified. Once one already has a proper outlet, one can plug surge-protection outlet strips, that are mounted on the wall, into it.
Yea in another video I saw that outlet but I thought that was odd only to have 1 outlet for running bird hatchery’s. I don’t know how much power they pull but I would be afraid they would trip the surge protector. I’m used to my husband putting 2 outlets on each wall of a room. Lol
That was totally an A-TEAM Building Stuff Montage.
Just a thought, what about a chute so when you clean out the brooder room you can just sweep the waste though a hole in the floor and it's piped into a garbage can on the lower level?
Hi Morgan I am learning from you soon I am going to make out door bird flying area for my parrots.
More Toby! 🐶❤
I second the thought of doing some car riding training with Toby. Abby is used to it, since she had this grand road trip, when she came, right?
Morgan, Morgan, Morgan....... I dont know much about much, but I kind of feel like you really SHOULD have insulated the floor of your hatchery!
And yes, totally relatable!
I think the easy fix to hound hunting is no hunting on property you don’t have permission to be on. It’s a win win for everyone! Hound hunters get to hunt how they want and don’t need to follow any new rules about how to hunt, and landowners who don’t want hound hunting don’t have to worry or put in excessive effort to stop it. Everyone gets what they want!
Sane people would like this, but hound hunters in VT do hunt on other people’s property because they can’t control the dogs. They’d have to change the way they hunt, because the way they hunt is let dogs run anywhere they want.
@@GaserBeam-hi4ez all to true
@@GaserBeam-hi4ez And then they follow the dogs on electronic trackers when they seem to have treed a bear. Bear meat is lucrative. It's not so much trouble to semi-train a dog if this is all you're asking of it. But if you want it to heel to its master, this requires more effort.
Maybe it's time to call your buddy Alfred? I think we all love your episodes with him.
It did look a bit wonky to snap off a piece of lining at ceiling level. Alfred would doubtless have measured a cut on that to less than a millimeter.
@ 10:56 is Abby eating an egg? Possibly why you are not finding any eggs. Also, if you keep watching the video until Morgan is working on the hatching room. Abby has gone under the leaning board to search, egg possibly hunting.
Undaunted! Let's goooo!!!

Good Work!!
Can you put a roof over the area where the chickens like to roost to protect the nesting sites below?
Aww I had to take my old dog to get his shots today myself 3:27
Holy wombats! Did you see the way Morgan lifted up Toby! I had a 100 pound German Shephard and I will tell you lifting a dog is really hard! Good job Morgan!
What happened to no trespassing I grew up with if you trespass you can be shot is that different on the east coast I’m a lil bit older than you so has it changed or always been like that on the east coast when you can trespass for hunting
Just tossing my 2 cents into the jar. I realize that most of the hound hunters that trespass into Morgan's property are "on the large side" and most of them meet the "stereotype" too. Sometimes in the gun community we mock these type of people and hunters. Oh yeah. You dropping 5k on a scope just to hunt at 50 yards or 100 yards. Next thing they complain about how expensive food are.
In other words... they're stupid.
Bear steaks and other meat is an absurdly costly luxury and quite profitable. Did I see a wink from them when they complain about the expense of food?
hahaha Toby hates the car as much as my dog does. She refuses to even sniff food when she's in the car and she LOVES food.
Morgan, you're doing a great job insulating your hatchery. But im concerned that you may need a way to vent moisture. Ive heard of houses having issues with moisture running down the walls because they were too well insulated...i have no idea how to do this, but it might be worth some research.
