One thing that really helped me break out of the prison of knowing 'a little bit of music theory' was reading 20th century harmony and looking at some of the scores referenced in there. Realising that, yes it is ok to just move a minor 9th voicing up and down and you wont get in trouble was very liberating. Before I was stuck trying to make everything fit into a baroque/species counterpoint model where it didn't make any sense to do so.
Also reading through Eric Whitacres Sleep and saying to myself "HEY, there's parallel fifths all over the place here and it sounds f****ing awesome!" was a big one haha

P.S. Your shirt is so dark against the equally dark background that I originally thought you were trolling us by reacting to juvenilia shirtless (you know, to accentuate the "exposed" aspect). Until I realized I was seeing things, I was like, ... I dunno, that might be kind of stupidly brilliant.
PP.S. I like floaty and desultory secundals, so glad that you were able to appreciate the points of growth in the Romanze.
