I was at the Dominion Theatre in 1988 when this recording was made. The whole night was electric. This wonderful fresh raw talent of rage, love, tenderness, regret, passion. It was all going on. A quite extraordinary performance from a fierce, brave yet vulnerable and tormented young woman. Such incredible bravery to be on that stage and share and bare her soul. Cropped hair, big big Doc Marten boots and a black and white mini skirt. I think polka dots or a ska type square patten. Rebellious, angry... stomping around stage. Spitting. She was so fucking punk, but she wasn't she was uniquely her. Such an extraordinary voice, lyrics of a true poet. To this day....never has a concert made such an impression on me. And this... Mandinka... I'm virtually lost for words. All of us in the theatre that night knew we were witnessing the emergence of an extraordinary talent. She was a warrior, she was a priestess. Complicated, troubled with multiple child hood traumas. Neuro diverse... and a woman who wore her heart on her sleeve and spoke her truth and had strong opinions on many things.... Most of them of valid and with good cause and reason. Of course an artist like this was always going to have a target on her back from those in the Establishment who tremble at the bucking and fucking of the status quo. The press were going to try and break her and hounded her for 35 years. That's what they have always done to strong assertive women artists I've always adored her, her strength and her passion and most importantly bravery. For me, she defined an era. May she now rest in peace.

100 percent, thank you. She was brave enough to take on the once all-powerful Catholic Church and was proved right about how corrupt it was, in particular in relation to child abuse, human rights, racism and women's rights. But she didn't want it destroyed but reborn. She even became a priestess of a not recognized sect of the Catholic Church. RIP dear Sinead.

Indeed. Very few people would look beautiful head-shaven. She was a looker back in the day hairless or otherwise, with those strikingly attractive facial features. Her voice and songwriting were just as impressive. The world owed her a great deal whereas her allegations towards the Pope at that time were far more than hogwash.

I don't want to admit that this is my favorite Sinéad song because she has so many phenomenal songs that I melt into. However, this song is so perfectly visceral in every one of its forms. It just does something to my soul every time (like so many of her songs). I just love her so darned much that I feel like I'm being dishonest with my love for all her pieces. Like I am betraying my admiration of her but I know that's a "me" problem. It is true, I love "Troy"!!!

The most beautiful talented woman of all time. No one has ever had a voice like her and no one will ever compare to her in all of time. I've always looked up to her and admired her for her strength and beauty. Will never forget you Sinead

As reluctant as I am to apply this label to one of an artist's first recordings, this to me is Sinead's masterpiece. One of the most emotionally powerful songs ever recorded. I have heard quite a few live performances of Troy. All are incredible, but the ending of this one is astonishing. It just isn't right that she's gone. It hurts.

She makes me feel so understood. She is a voice who had something so very genuine and raw to say, and did so fearlessly and blazingly. I feel we’re losing authenticity and honesty in not only the music world, but the entire world sometimes. She articulates that rage so precisely and is yet so vulnerable and full of emotion while doing so. Rest in peace beautiful flame

She never regretted anything: neither her music, nor sympathizing with the IRA, nor breaking the photo of Pope John Paul II on camera in the most watched show in the world, nor complaining about child abuse in the Church, nor of turning down a Grammy in 1991 for the Gulf War (Bush). A mine out of the ordinary, a courageous woman said goodbye to the world today, just a year and a half after the suicide of Shane, her 17-year-old son. #RIP #sinadoconnor #RIP #nothingcomparestoyou Goodbye beautiful and brave woman

The shear POWER of her voice is incredible. I stand by the fact that I always liked her as a person and felt she was ahead of her time, bold and went against stereotype after the fallout of her SNL performance, but admittedly I never thought to give her music a listen outside of NC2U, but holy shit this song and her entire 1st album is phenomenal. We need more performers who are authentic to themselves.
