Yes - the new DR-60D will sync to the camera automatically (as long as it is connected via the stereo mini cable) while simultaneously recording to it's own SDHC card. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh{at}bandh{dot}com. Mark S.
With the Juicedlink Pre Amps, you will be recording directly to the camera. Ideally, you would like to use an external Audio Recorder. That is why the DR60D is ideal for DSLR video shooters. The DR60D makes recording audio for your video shoots easier and convenient. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH(at)BandH(dot)com - Juan B
THis looks awesome, but does it mean that I can not attach 4 different mics directly? I need a small records that can have 4 different inputs into four different channels is that possible on a small device like this? or what is the alternative? thanks a lot
This recorder features a limiter and a cut-filter - No AGC. When the limiter is engaged, the mic gain will be adjusted automatically to the manually set input recording level so that distortion does not occur even when loud sounds are input. The low-cut filter reduces wind noise and noise from projectors and air-conditioners, etc. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh{at}bandh{dot}com. Mark S.
I've plugged in several microphones (both phantom & non phantom), and can not turn the volume off using the front pots. With the pots completely off, I'm still getting significant level in the recordings. The pots seem to kick in at about 11 o'clock. I spoke to Tascam, and was told that was the way the pots work! This means that all mics plugged in are always live, even if potted off!
The DR-60D can record up to 4-tracks simultaneously allowing for various mic set-ups supplies mixing functionality to all 4 tracks. Inputs 1/L and 2/R can be selected for monaural operation or stereo link operation. You may connect external mics or other equipment to record 4 independent channels as two stereo recording files. (CH 1/2 & CH 3/4). Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh{at}bandh{dot}com. Mark S.
This is going to be great. All of the other products seem to be adapted for Audio for Video. This seems to be designed specifically for it. I can't wait to try it out.
The microphone pre-amps on the Tascam DR-60D are topnotch. This recorder has been designed from scratch with even better mic pre's than the DR-40. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh{at}bandh{dot}com. Mark S
Although these products have not been scientifically tested side by side, I suspect that since the signal chain is more linear when using the Tascam DR-60D, the noise floor and incidence of hiss would be reduced as well. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH@BandH.com
The automatic level control will be similar to AGC. You will be able to disable this feature, and adjust the levels manually. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH(at)BandH(dot)com - Juan B
The Juicedlink pre amps do not incorporate a recorder like the Tascam DR60D. So I would not say it would be a direct competitor to it. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH(at)BandH(dot)com - Juan B
The recording quality between these two recorders should be similar as they are using similar pre-amps and associated circuitry. We have not conducted any scientific side-by-side tests, however. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH@BandH.com
all I want to know is if this device can send clean audio to your record to your dslr to avoid syncing in post. and if it does then do I need to buy an extra cord to connect it to my dslr?

So with a cable like that, would I still need to sync it, or would it record with the camera? Also, would it record on to it's own SD card still, or could I get it to record on the camera's and sync automatically? Thanks again!
Please help. I have Tascam DR 60 D MK ii...I wanted to record in XLR inputs by giving it 48v phantom power, however I have a lav mic ( saramonic omnidirectional) battery powered with TRRS jack to it, when I used it in 3.5mm input it didn't work, after looking for solution on RUclips I got SC3 cable and that works fine in 3.5mm input. Also during my search I came across Rode VXLR+ that allows to convert 48v pH power into 3-5 volts. I purchased it but it's not working in my Tascam DR 60 D MK ii how can I use it?
CAN I DIRECTLY RECORD WITH RODE MICRO TO THE CAMERA

It was an awsome introduciton about the Tascam Dr60D. I gotta ask you one thing. Currently i am using the tascam dr 40- with the rode ntg 2 mic, and i think the dr40's preamp is not hard enough. I've read, that the tascam dr60d is much better, because the have renewed its preamp, and it is much better. How do you feel? Did you realize any differences between these two recorder? Thanks your answer in advance.

What cord would I need to connect the DR-60D to my camera? I assume it's going to be something equivalent to the LN2MIC-DR100 for the DR-100, correct? What cable is it specifically?
Hey there, this looks interesting. I have the Zoom H4n and a Canon 5dMk2. Currently looking for the best solution for recording great quality for corporate videos. Juiced is a contender but wondering what your thoughts are about audio for the Canon now this machine is out?
Although the TASCAM DR-60DmkII can transfer files to a computer via USB, it does not have USB interface functionality. That means that it cannot be used for live audio input via USB.
HI. Great review! I have a question though.. I have a Rode video mic and connected it to the Tascam. I can only reach -12db if i set the gain to "high", raising the noise floor... Since the 3/4 input only has "low" and "high" gain settings, i was wondering if i was doing something wrong... Any help? Cheers!
I've used my Tasman for many short film but one day when I was checking audio the audio is very quiet and had to brought up in post, I'm hopeing this is user error can y'all help? It's with a senhisser journalism boom mic and double checked the issue with my rode reporter.
Hi I just ordered a Sony HDR pj650v and the sensor appears to be 1x 1/3.91 CMOS which is the same one as the Sony HDR pj580v can you plz tell me if they are going to be the exact same video quality and how is the 1x 1/3.91 is going to perform in low light because my Samsung hmx-f80 which cost 100$ has the same exact 1/3.91 cmos sensor and it does an extremely bad horrible job in low light. I would be mad if I wasted 1,100$ on poor performer in low light. Thx plz reply.
Ok so I have a problem here. I'm thinking about making a composite audio design for my film, so I want to diversify the kinds of mics I use. I'm going to use a field recorder like a Tascam DR-40 for the room tone, and some kind of dialogue shotgun mic, (maybe a Rode NTG-2 or something). I also want to use lavaliers for my talent when on screen, so I have a bit of a problem. How should I rig the system up so that it will record from a wireless lav setup? I haven't bought anything yet, so I figured there might be some flexibility in my setup. I assume I'll need at least one of the XLR imputs for the shotgun, but is there any kind of product that could work as a reciever for a lav mic that uses the 1/8 jack or the other XLR Jack? I really don't want to have to use a slate to sync up video if I don't have to, especially if it means I would have to buy another field recorder to do it. Thanks for the help!
I would advise against getting an H4 they only have 2 XLR inputs and are rather dated and simple for your requirements. I will put together a kit for you that will have everything you will need and enable you to do whatever you want to do. For a start get the Tascam DR 70 it is a recorder, mixer and has 4 XLR inputs. So you will save yourself a lot as it has everything you will need. Please see below for links your audio rig. I have listed a few lav's not knowing your budget. Thanks so much for the reply! The DR-70D seems way more suited for what I'm looking for, amazing. My only other question (and forgive me if this is a bit naive), but is there any way to attach the receivers from the lav setup to feed into the DR-70D? I'm really looking for a setup where I don't have to sync audio in post, and I'm really new to all of it. thanks again! -Willem
Willem Cohen Yes absolutely, just take the output of the wireless receivers and go into the XLR's on the DR 70. I don't know what wireless you have picked, but most will come with an 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable and a 3.5mm to XLR cable as well. So you can use whatever works for you. You can attach them to your camera with a multiple shoe bracket. - Yossi
Really quick question. Right now, I am currently using a Blue Icicle to convert the Rode NTG-2 to USB in order to use it for voice applications like Skype and Google Hangouts. Could I potentially use this and run the line out as a pass-through to achieve the same results, while also being able to take it out and use it as a normal field recorder?

thank you for this video... I am undecided between DR-60D and DR-100mkii... I am not very expert at audio... low noise is very important for me... I dont want a hiss noise at background (I am using Beachtek DXA-SLR now and I want to move to TASCAM) (I am using sennheiser MKH-416 shotgun mic and waiting for sennheiser EW112p G3 wireless lavalier)
Will i be able to use the audio fed to my camera from the camera out without recording and syncing files recorded on the tascam, is the audio fed directly to the camera from the tascam good enough, because i dont like syncing at all...i was going to get the beachtek, now this caught my attention any thoughts?
Two thoughts if you just go with the camera out: you're losing the 2 file recording capability (4 channel or backup, lower gain file), and you're also losing the benefit of the quiet preamps.
The TASCAM DR-60D - B&H # TADR60D (bhpho.to/1btDKAL) captures up to four simultaneous channels of linear PCM audio (at 44.1, 48 and 96 kHz sample rates and at bit depths of 16- and 24-bit)and stores your recordings to SD or SDHC memory cards. It mounts to a tripod and allows you to screw your DSLR camera into the top of the recorder. The audio may be routed directly to your camera's external microphone input as well. Dual "safety track" record mode automatically provides a back-up safety track in case the initial levels where set too high and clips were encountered. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh@bandh.com. Mark S.
I've had a problem with the original Tascam DR-60D not working with Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries, even after changing the battery settings in the menu. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know of a workaround?
I have not encountered any similar issues with these batteries in the past. Try standard alkaline batteries to isolate the problem. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh@bandh.com>Mark
Question. I bought this DR-60D a month ago and is it normal for my batteries to drain really really quick, as in less than 2 hours use? I am using eneloop XX 2500mAh batteries. Thanks!
Rechargeable batteries will drain more quickly than standard non- rechargeable alkaline or lithium cells. The use of Phantom power will decrease battery life quickly as well. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh@bandh.com. Mark S.

If you connect the Tascam DR-60D to the camera the audio will record embedded to the video. You can record audio separate to a SD card in the Tascam. That is when you will have to sync the audio in post.
Most direct boxes are passive and do not supply power in my experience. The few active boxes available will not power this recorder properly. This recorder may be powered by AA batteries or an external AC adapter - Tascam PS-P515U AC to USB Power Adapter: B&H# TAPSP515U. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH@BandH.com
The Preamp inside the Tascam DR-60 is a more efficient model than the preamp inside the DR-40 so it is using the power from the batteries in a more effective manner but it will provide the same power just in a smaller form factor. Also with the ability to mount directly underneath the camera you can use it on the tripod head and mount the camera on top of the recorder. Dana G. askbh{at}bandh{dot}com

The AA battery power with this recorder is killing me. I they provided an accessory in the box to connect those Sony batteries with the two silver pins because they are rechargeable and rechargeable AA batteries never last.
I just bought one. Neither set of NiMH batteries work in it without a little jiggering ... a piece of plastic is a tad too high in the compartment and the right battery does not make contact. I shimmed it and am having a ball learning to use this toy, may shave the excess later after talking to B&H. It should make up for some bad habits of both my Nikon D5100 (no sound level meter) and my Canon Vixia HF-G20 (prone to hum if used with external mics and its 120 V supply).
Yes, you can use the Tascam DR-60D as a stand alone recorder. It has a SD slot to record the audio files too.

+ManueAlipio Calvão The Tascam DR60D is probably not the first choice in devices for recording classical instrumental music. It mounts to a tripod and allows you to screw your DSLR camera into the top of the recorder. The audio may be routed directly to your camera's external microphone input as well. Dual "safety track" record mode automatically provides a back-up safety track in case the initial levels where set too high and clips were encountered.

Is noise level (i.e lack thereof) comparable to Juiced Link?
Mark S.
Finally got the answer i been looking for.

On how to use it
I just got one are they hard to use
Hello,
I have a question for you, guys.
Why is it called a 4-channel recorder while it has only two microphone inputs?
There are 4 total tracks and inputs available:
4 channels (stereo x 2):
2x XLR/TRS combo jacks (channels 1, 2)
1x stereo 3.5 mm mini jack (channels 3, 4)
>Mark

Cool I want one
Does it work with most mics
It will work with mics that have XLR and 3.5mm stereo connections. Each of the combo jack inputs are capable of supplying either 24V or 48V phantom power.
I'm trying to record musical instruments with separate mono tracks I tried dual mono but it created 1 stereo track and mono track. What settings would anyone recommend to achieve separate mono tracks?
+chea13 This is a stereo recorder. The L/R stereo tracks may be separated during the editing process in your DAW.

Which is the best ? Tascam DR-60D or Zoom H4N ?
Thanks
+Amaury The Tascam DR60D offers a unique form-factor that is pleasing to many DSLR shooters. Designed for recording high-quality audio for DSLR video applications, the DR-60D mounts to a tripod and allows you to screw your DSLR camera into the top of the recorder. bhpho.to/1R4k8fh

+B and H Ok thanks !
I be using the recorder as a mic..Would the Shure mic sm7b be better ?
The Shure SM7b is a great voice over mic and is often used in radio broadcasting. It would certainly be an upgrade to the built-in mics in most any recorder.

do you still have to sync the files or does it go in to the video
The recorded signal is passed through from the recorder to the camera. Sync the DR60D's audio files when a high resolution audio track is desired.
Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh@bandh.com.>Mark
how is the sound quality
this will go well with my EOS 60D... "did you bring the 60D batteries?"
Do you have to sync the later in post
If you connect the Tascam DR-60D to the camera the audio will record embedded to the video. You can record audio separate to a SD card in the Tascam. That is when you will have to sync the audio in post.
can this be powered externally via a distribution box?
Most direct boxes are passive and do not supply power in my experience. The few active boxes available will not power this recorder properly. This recorder may be powered by AA batteries or an external AC adapter - Tascam PS-P515U AC to USB Power Adapter: B&H# TAPSP515U.

Cool I want one would
Any mic work
How is the sound
Quality
The Preamp inside the Tascam DR-60 is a more efficient model than the preamp inside the DR-40 so it is using the power from the batteries in a more effective manner but it will provide the same power just in a smaller form factor. Also with the ability to mount directly underneath the camera you can use it on the tripod head and mount the camera on top of the recorder.

does it work with camcorders also?
or video camera
The Tascam DR60D will work equally as well with most camcorders that offer a stereo mini (1/8", 3.5mm) microphone input.

Muito bom parabéns
I have a recorder dr60d only lasts half an hour
why?
ANDESWOOD TV Are you referring to the battery life or the recording medium?
Please e-mail your reply to: askbh@bandh.com >Mark
You will not need the attenuation offered by the Sescom: LN2MIC-TASDR100. A simple mini TRS to mini TRS cable will suffice. B&H# HOSMMSMMRA3.

Does it have effects or presets
It does not have effects or presets.
It should make up for some bad habits of both my Nikon D5100 (no sound level meter) and my Canon Vixia HF-G20 (prone to hum if used with external mics and its 120 V supply).
does it have built in speaker
The Tascam DR-60D has no internal speaker. Use headphones or an external speaker connected to the headphone output jack. >Mark
Wath kind of battery it uses
It takes four AA batteries, or you can power the DR-60D using USB or AC adaptor (TASCAM PS-P515U, sold separately).
Can you use as standalone
Yes, you can use the Tascam DR-60D as a stand alone recorder. It has a SD slot to record the audio files too.
Thanks by your coment. I have also a Tascam DR-60D MK II, but I have great dificulty in obtain a perfect sound! I play only classical guitar in solo and have a mic Bluebird to Tascam and Tascam to camera ZOOM Q4 and after put the file in computer to RUclips. My channel in RUclips is MANUEALIPIO.
I asked you to help me in obtain the better configuration.
Thanks a lot by your answer and all the best for you,
Manuel
+ManueAlipio Calvão
The Tascam DR60D is probably not the first choice in devices for recording classical instrumental music. It's best used for voices, ENG use, RUclips postings, etc. Perfect audio capture might warrant a different recorder like the Edirol / Roland R-44 Solid-State Four-Channel Portable Field Recorder B&H # EDR44 for starters. >Mark<

+B and H Thanks a lot by your explanation.

Saw small
A bit heavy? It's not heavy at all.
The Juicedlink pre amps do not incorporate a recorder like the Tascam DR60D. So I would not say it would be a direct competitor to it. Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: AskBH(at)BandH(dot)com - Juan B
How many tracks does it have
How is the sound quality
can you use as stand alone
Yes you can. It has a SD card slot where you can record the audio too.
