    Pretty good performance for a small engine in a not so small car. Also, it's interesting that the consumption increases linear to the speed of the engine (and the car), while small turbo engines are exceptionally economical at lower speeds, but then dramatically increase as you go past 130 km/h

      60-100 in 5 seconds flat is actually very respectable for the engine/car weight ratio. 0-150kph in 20 seconds as well. f.e. those figures are very comparable to a ~150kg lighter fiesta 1.0 125hp. the gearbox ratios fit nicely to the engine, its rare to see this nowadays. still the consumption is very good too. i like it. its no performance car but seems to be a very usable power delivery for everyday driving.

    This car with this engine is the best investment in this turbo age. It will last a long time, if maintained properly, and the fuel consumption is stellar. It's better that my 1.6 NA Yamaha designed MK3 Focus which has 274 K km. The hybrids are good also, but disposable after 10 years when battery warranty expires.

    Had this car as a renter for 3 days. My first modern day car that I drove for almost 1000 kilometres. Tragic. You need to floor it to get it moving. Sound insulation absolutely terrible, very noisy inside. Good thing was the fuel economy in motorway, but my 20 year old diesel Volvo estate has the same fuel economy, almost twice the power and is way quieter in the cabin. Guess I'll need to maintain it for as long as possible

    I very much liked this 1.5 engine in Yaris. Sounds good and revs great.
    It might be a bit too small for Corolla in my opinion.

    This 1.5 actually burns less fuel than the 1.8 140 hybrid at the same speed, but that should not be surprising. Sadly Toyota is not selling non-hybrid Corollas in many European countries, which would be cheaper to buy and run and better overall for many drivers. Plus you could actually get 100% of the engine power 100% of the time, for which you can't with the hybrids. Acceleration-wise it seems about as fast as a latest 150hp Mazda 3 sky-G

    I have never seen/knew a corolla with the 1.5 from the Yaris. That’s kinda interesting, I wish that Toyota could sell some only petrol variants of their cars.

    Ese motor es el mismo que usa el yaris, en españa el corolla solo se vende motor 1.8 híbrido para la version 4 puertas, para el corolla sw, 2.0 hibrido.

    • @TheCrankshaftRotator
      @TheCrankshaftRotator 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@MagnusVenter369 A gear is short, wenn the rpm of the engine at topspeed is higher than the rpm with the max. output. So it is long, not short. Do not forget: This is a naturally aspirated engine in a not very lightweight car.

    Їздив 7 років на Toyota Corolla 2012 року, проїхав 180 000 км, в цьому авто нічого за 10 років не змінилося 😂. Двигун був 1.6 а став 1.5, потужність не змінилася, авто для міста хороше, класна підвіска, але слабий двигун, відсутня шумоізоляція, на трасі після 120 км/год дуже гучно, потужності не вистачає

    If 2.0 with 4 cylinder, yes. This? Not a chance, this is an engine for small corolla or yaris and it will go bad very fast with this chassis.

    It does not make much sense to measure performance on a family sedan. It's like timing your grandparents to see who runs faster. 😂 Running fast is not what makes grannies and popsies good.
