That thompson is actually an M1928. Common misconception. You can tell by the top cocking handle and the muzzle device, as well as the design on the barrel (those grooves) and the buttstock.
I know it really pisses me off that games always put this British used Thompson variant in the game instead of the actual version. Unless it's a game about the Royal Army specifically.
It's the same gun. It was first invented in 1918 by John T. Thompson, then known as "the annihilator". That said, it was not created until after the war had ended. Following the war, Thompson went through a series of redesigns with the intent to sell it to law enforcement and the local populace. In 1921, he released the M1921, Model 1921, which saw great success as an equalizer for law enforcement. The M1928 would come 7 years later, and both would see extensive use by the police and organized crime. In 1938, the US Army would adopt the submachine gun and it'd see extensive use in North Africa and in the Pacific. With a need to produce the gun quicker and cheaper, the M1 and later M1A1 models would be put into production. These models would replace the 1928 in most frontline action for the US, and the STEN MkII would replace most submachine guns within the infantry for the Anglos. Though, it should be noted that the 1928 saw extensive use by Commonwealth Commandos. That said, despite being a different model, It's still a Thompson. Mechanically speaking, there is only very very slight differences between each model. The term Thompson encompasses each model as a whole.
@@VazNu7 The Thompson M1928 was officially adopted by the US Army and Marine Corps in 1938. It was issued to the British via the Lend Lease Act in March of 1941. After the advent of M1A1, it admittedly saw less service in frontline combat by US forces, but was still present, especially in the Pacific Front.
@@Terry-Tuna I never really denied that nor proved that. I know firearms, I do not necessarily know the history of them. But in most regards to the usage of the M1A1 and M1929 variants, in the pacific the M1A1 from what I am aware saw virtually more usage.
