I am sick with the disclaimers. I actually think we got to the point where some people get the fact that we have different opinions and different taste bla bla...seriously. How much untill everyone stops to feel like they need to put a WARNING SIGN before they say the unpopular opinion. I ADORE negative reviews. Really. They are so refreshing. I love the bone season and I saw people talkin bad about it. And that s ooookkk. Like..seriously..how does that affects me? in no way. So I can t understand why some of them still get upset...it.s ok for that unpopular opinion. It.s good to be different.

Omg I totally agree. I hate how people assume that we're either trying to copy something (like the dumb copyright rules) and all that crap. We get it, like can't we just give people the benefit of the doubt for a change? Honestly, it's a waste of everyone's time.

Caroline Taylor yeeeesss. I like how they say that booktube is a peacefull comunity, that everyone is happy happy joy joy....but the moment you have an unpopular opinion/negative review? Boy oh boy u ded. And I don t get it. For exemple.. I said in a comment that I don t like TOG anymore...and the hate started.

you gave it a 3.75/5 and had to give that huge disclaimer? 3.75 isnt even a bad rating I give books 3 stars all the time. Havent you given negative reviews before?

Katie B. She usually does go lower than a 3. I've always seen her give books 4 and 5 stars mostly and a 3 star means she really didn't like it cos she hardly ever gives that rating to a book

I feel like there should be an unwritten rule that reviewers (not just for books but for anything like games, clothes stores, makeup etc) shouldn’t have to give disclaimers. Like you are literally a REVIEWER, it still confuses me how some people expect you never to say anything bad. That’s the whole point of a review - to give your opinion. Personally, if a reviewer only ever did positive reviews, I don’t think I would trust them as much as somebody who is open and honest about both good and bad opinions. And as viewers it should be our responsibility to atleast understand that everyone is different and will have different opinions, and that when those unpopular opinions are voiced it’s not out of spite. As long as you are being respectful to the author, having an unpopular opinion shouldn’t need to be cushioned by unnecessary disclaimers.

I'm not very far in but so far I'm kind of... meh. I'm still reading because I am curious about what will happen but not in an "OMG I need to know what happens" kinda way, if you know what I mean

I was actually feeling this exactly and I think the reason at least for me is because I read it after I had read all of throne of glass, kiss of deception, shadow and bone and six of crows, etc. just like a lot of fantasy books. so it just felt so predictable. I read the second one recently and I really liked it but again it kind of ended in a really predictable way so I’m just afraid that it’s not gonna surprise at all.

I agree that it is completely normal and fine not to like books that are popular or that others like, and to share those feelings. What I don't agree with however is when people direct their dislike/hate of a book at the author or at people who did love the book (like shaming them for liking it).
Anyways, great video :) and enjoy reading Nevernight (I personally loved it)

Red Queen was the book for me, I infact got into that because of your review. It was good but too predictable. I love some fantasical magical powers, hunger games kinda books but it just the same story line everytime that you can't enjoy it anymore. I hope to find some twist on that storyline, like some crazy twist you can never expect of that storyline. I don't know like the main character joins the villion team willingly? Like a sudden change of character,I mean that would be interesting.

I was thinking about this lately.. this obligation.. induced by booktube mostly (in my opinion) I don't think I have to love a book if x did and I don't have to not read a book if y rated it ..2 stars.. shit maybe I will give it 5 stars and that's ok.. plus I don't think a book should be called trash if y didn't like it. People should be more objective with reviewing as long as other people will see the reviews...

I know exactly what you mean. I think that when we listen to the hype around a novel and let it permeate into our expectations, it can really impact the way we think when we read it. I had the exact same thing with Passanger; I picked it up when it came out and everybody seemed to adore it, and I don't know what it was but I just... couldn't make myself love it. I don't know why, I just couldn't.

The kind of feeling like the odd one, when it comes to liking /not liking a book/book series. I have felt it. Like when I have been watching booktubers videos on he unpoular opinions book tag, it seems like many disliked the Beautiful Creatures books. Which is one of my favorite fantasy ya series. Which made me feel a bit guilty for liking. Since I didn't see anything wrong with those books.
Or when I have not liked books by popular ya authors, which books so many loves and adores.
Like Cassandra Clare and Sarah J Maas . I tried to read the Shadowhunter books , but I just couldn't get into them. Also tried SJM'S books , starting with ACOTAR. Which ended with me not liking the male characters. Later I read Throne of Glass. Again with the male characters. The relationships. Wasn't so fond of Celeana. So when I returned the book (i just told you about.) to the library , the woman behind the desk asked me if I liked it. I was very honest with my opinon, and said that I didn't like it. Then she said that the later books in the series were going to be better. But I don't feel like to conntinue with a series ,if I don't like the first book. Have anyone else felt like this? Please share your story. Would love to read it.

I also feel the same way about The Hating Game. I thought I would love it because it was so hyped and even my best friend whose book tastes are very similar to mine loved it. But after I read it, I didn’t feel it was as great as everyone said it was. Like you said the writing wasn’t bad but something about the story just didn’t do it for me. It was good enough to keep me reading but not enough for me to love it as much as everyone else does 🤷🏻‍♀️ I did feel like the odd one out so thanks Sasha for helping me feel not so alone about this book 😂

I feel the same way about the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series. I gave the first one 3 stars, and I'm a little over half way through the second book, and it will most likely be getting 3 stars, as well. I almost gave up on it, but around 250 pages in, it got a little more interesting. The same thing happened with the first one. I almost gave up, but kept slogging through because I seem to be the only person on the planet that doesn't really care for the books. Eventually it got a little more interesting, so I stuck it out. We shall see if I bother reading the 3rd one, depending on how exciting the ending of the 2nd one is.

Sasha I agree with you on "The Hating Game" I was reading it and not I don't know. I liked the two characters and I liked their romance but it just didn't meet the mark for me either. It might be because I've read a lot of romance books or was just not in the right place to read it but yes I totally know what you are talking about. And it does suck when people are generally loving a book and it just does land the same way with you as them.. I think I ended up giving it like a four but that was also because it was like I didn't think I could give it a 3 or I didn't think that would be well accepted.

One story I feel like everyone else talked so highly about but I had problems with was Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the story, the characters, the movie, etc. The one thing I wasn’t crazy about was the writing style. It felt a little immature in my opinion, but everyone else was talking about how great the writing style was. This is in no way meant to talk down on Becky Albertalli. I think she is a fantastic author and I loved the story itself. I just feel like maybe I should read her other stories to see if maybe I can resonate with those more :)

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell was my version of The Hating Game for you. I started reading it and it took me about a month to get through 100 pages. It wasn’t that it was necessarily a bad book, it just did not connect with me, and like you said, that’s perfectly fine. Everybody loves Fangirl though, and maybe I will if I reread it (i’m planning to), but for now I was not crazy about it. But, don’t get me wrong, I really like Rainbow Rowell’s writing, I just couldn’t get into Fangirl.

Ok...I have seen next to none of your videos and I have to admit your video intro made me laugh a lot! I actually saw you at BookCon, I was standing a few feet away from you and Tashapolis completely by accident. I was just waiting for my wife to meet up with me at that moment LOL. We are most likley coming back next year because i just love meeting up with my fellow RUclips community members. Love that you are sitting right in front of your copy of Mistborn. I just read the whole series earlier this year and I thought it was fantastic. Meeting Brandon Sanderson at BookCon was incredible, I could see myself having a beer with the guy and just talking about awesome popular culture. I mean the guy was wearing a Calvin and Hobbes shirt when I met him that's massive brownie points for me. At the moment I am reading Stephen King's The Dark Tower series and I just loving it.
Good luck with all your reading!

I feel like a lot of people loved Heartless by Marissa Meyer, but I just thought it was okay. I love the Lunar Chrinicles series, it's one of my all time favourite series, but maybe I had unrealistic expectations for Heartless and thats why I didn't enjoy it has much. The concept is really cool, the idea with the Red and White Queendoms was interesting and I think Marissa Meyer did a great job humanising this infamous villain. The characters felt well developed, but didn't really feel an emotional connection to any of them, which I think is the main reason I didn't love this book as much as a lot of people.

3:40 that's exactly how I felt when I read Children of Blood and Bone. Everyone loved and praised it and I was super hyped to read it, but when I did it was just... meh. And I actually wondered if I'd read the wrong book or if I just didn't get the story or missed out on something, because my opinion was so different from everybody elses... :/

For me the book that everyone likes/loves but I hated was “The unexpected everything” by Morgan Matson. I’ve heard a lot of booktubers taking about it and when I heard that it involves dogs I knew that I had to buy it. But after reading it for a bit I already knew that this won’t be getting 5 stars from me, and I ended up giving it 2.5 stars. This book felt really dragged out, some scenes that were 4 pages long could’ve easily been written on 1 page and some moments very so cliché and cringy that I closed the book multiple times and couldn’t pick it up for few days. It also got me in a really bad reading slump and even after a month I just can’t pick up another contemporary. So, everyone has that one (or more) book that they didn’t like as much as the rest of people did, and it’s perfectly fine because each one of us has their own opinions and it makes us unique.

I loved the two books in the Never night series, the first one was good but the second one ripped your heart out (in a good way). Although I have to admit that I was not expecting the sexy times (autocorrect changed times to toes, that would have been awkward) and feel like they weren't exactly necessary to the plot. As for book that I didn't enjoy, I stopped reading The Raven Boys a few chapters in and wasn't the biggest fan of The Tethered Mage.
