- Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned Tuesday, 10 days after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. CBS News congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane has more on her departure. Then, former Secret Service Deputy Director A.T. There’s this thing called ICS - Incident Command System that has been designed and refined for multi-agency scenarios, like this. It’s hard to believe that the S.S. and local agencies used any system at all, due to the many glaring mistakes. Unbelievable.
If these bodies cannot work out what went wrong & by who, then the vacuum of information will be filled with speculation & theories. It's essential that there's full transparency to mitigate the chances of a repeat.
Who got fired after Jan 6th? No one
Many court cases of the destruction were caught on camera. Many people went to prison. Also, Trump has just endured many court cases. The piper is paid on a later date. One day you're a hero, next day you made a huge mistake. Life is hard.
She stepped down but every one, down to the agent in charge at the scene should be held accountable. A systemic problem seems to exist where there is not enough people accepting ownership of the security all the way down. Additionally there were civilians who saw the shooter getting to the roof of the warehouse but apparently there was no way to quickly notify anyone who could do anything.
Ok, now that Congress has got its pound of flesh. What next? The resignation solves nothing.
This may be a ripe opportunity for Congressional folks consider reorganizing the Secret Service and redefine the mission.

It was not up to her to resign it was her handlers that told her its time to go. She did her job as ordered but she failed. So now her handlers will decide her fate.

30-year member of the Secret Service? Learning what sloped roofs are acceptable and which are dangerous. Maybe she was sick that training day. Clearly elements of her organization had failed her as well. Need to get into the weeds way deeper on that one. Keep a wider investigation going. Some folks need to be fired over this failure.

Someone higher than her planned this. As a 20 year military vet we trained every day as if we were at war. We did not leave security breaches in the our lines of they defense. I’m sure the security hole was reported and if they planned not to be on top of the building they would placed someone at ladder to ensure no one could gain access. That security breach was left on purpose.
The SS has a 3.1 billon dollar budget, that should be more than enough money to operate
Similarly she is the head of the secret service, she should be accountable! How about the commander in chief should be accountable for the collapse of the country’s security, economy and safety of her citizens!!!All these happen in his watch!
It is not the victim's fault that The SS failed. An indoor location is just as vulnerable to attacks as an outdoor location.

I think they should use something like a football stadium. It is walled, deeply bowled, limited access, nothing but flat acres around it for practice fields and parking lots. Most already have security cameras everywhere.

In combat operations, infantry units first occupy tall buildings, trees or any natural elevation beyond the existing position. This is the first thing that is learned during training. Observers are stationed with binoculars or any equipment that can see the terrain better. This is astonishing for the secret service of such a country. It is completely unclear to me whether it is a deliberate omission or they are so incompetent, both solutions are a disaster. We defended our position better in 1995 during the Croatian Homeland War.
There are not more guns. In the 1950's-1970's there were a high number of guns per capita. There were a high number of trained shooters who were formerly in the armed services. Additionally, the AR-15 was sold to the public beginning in the 1960's. The AR-15 is not superior to a bolt-action hunting rifle for sniping. Note that the Secret Service snipers use a bolt action rifle, not an AR-15 variant.
That SS DEI hire should return to her original profession that got her the job in the first place.

She hasn't the capacity and personality just for that so all she knows to do is try to duck and cover. After sound analysis of the gunshots, from multiple sources, (cellphones) present at the time, experts determined there have been at least TWO shooters. Two different firearms have been established.
There is also another fact where local Butler police had time, and view, on the 'gunman' on that 'dangerous' slope roof, to take a picture. Question instant rise,"How the heck didn't they act by in the least disarm him, or shoot him? On this level there is every reason to even mistaken to take a shot, and discuss things later. Sound/ballistics experts, analysing the sound sources, stated there were two distinct shooting sources where bullets flew to the direction of Trumps microphone.
Take these facts alone, as also the inhibition of act, of Cheatle, not even to travel to the site, to be filmed by press, to demonstrate interest, competence, decisive action, and every one can imagine that you are in such predicament, not even remotely to be able to answer simplest and fair questions, that you lost before you even start. She should have concluded resignation days earlier and save herself the humiliation.
