235 width tires are stock size for the Evo 9. The rubbing issue is not the tire size, it's the wheels that are too offset for the car. Looks good but doesn't function good on track. I used to run 255 on my Evo and some track guys will run 275 without issue.
I had problems with rubbing when I was running lowering springs with stock struts myself. I switched to coil overs with camber plates and got rid of the rubbing and it handles way better.
Nice to see a so respectful JDM wagon lover like this guy and credits to Misha for his good driving skills during that situation as he stated there was nothing to do more than that.
That yellow came at just the right time, because the water temp had been rapidly increasing. The stock gauges in modern cars are usually quite heavily center weighted so when they start to go north of the centre line they're usually on their way to overheating. This is why I like an extra gauge that gives an accurate temp reading. Him turning on the aircon didn't seem to do the temp any favours either, more load on already heavily loaded engine. You'll see the gauge started to go north of centre at around 8.55 and aside from a brief cooldown during the first flag, its steadily climbing after that. Maybe he could change the coolant to that waterless stuff where its less dangerous for the temps to get high.
I checked the logg after the run 98c on water temp, The car had a new waterpump, fluids, all the belts and pullys are all new Mitsubishi parts prior to my trip down.
I like to use my phone to monitor water temp via OBD. Temps in my Miata stay low on the track but rise when idling. Unfortunately I can't check oil temp or pressure, need to install sensors and gauge/s for that
Bigger rad is already on and it had new fluids prior to my trip, but ill look in to upgrading the fan to a bigger better unit during the winter, thanks for the advice.@@frequency0007

As it was said in other comments, 235 width is stock on Evo 8 & 9. I was running 255/40/17 on both my Evos on stock suspension and without any rubbing. My 8 had rubbing only after I installed the coilovers and lowered it and 9 was fine on stock bilstein suspension. Just find the right offset wheels!
Indeed what Misha said, I feel sorry for him because we were behind him... Yea I agree on that one. Wow, they were doing probably more than 180kmh and lost traction, getting sideways slowed them down to maybe 150, but its still lethal speed, amazing that they were standing next to the track after that, i know i would be hugging the nearest tree.
Was hesitating on buying one, but the thing that held me back the RHD only (because it would have been my DD in Switzerland)... Ended with a 2018 WRX STI instead !😍😍

I’ve been driving race cars for 26 years I would never get in a race car hut who had to back wheels wearing down on the profile edges of the tire to where it could pop in at any point go flat at least I would’ve taken that car right off the track, or at least slow down, and made no more rubbing against the side of the tires… or I would’ve stopped and expected how much where was happening to know how much where is left before the sidewall gives out. IMHO
One positive is that BMWs are absolute tanks in the event of an accident, i have a distinct memory of a guy in a BMW hitting us in my mom's minivan, van was fucked and the bimmer looked pristine
I drove lancer wagon "sport" as a daily mine was front wheel drive only that thing understeered like hell when I let of the throttle in a low speed corner, it scared the fuck out me first time. Never really was "my car" like all the honda i have owned before and since then. Prefer my eg6 vtec all day. Still like how the lancer wagon looks. With fuel prices now driving a crz as my daily. Slow as mud but fun to drive. Love watching these video's and i always told myself. For me the risk of crashing and the financial consequences outweighs the experience of having driven on that road. No insurance coverage like this video shows it doesn't have to your fault either. And yes of course the health risk. Also this track is very difficult to drive even in a simulation you learn mistakes are easily punished with a fenderbender. And hitting the guardrails costs like 600 euros fore every meter they have to repair on top of the damage. Also they charge a huge amount for towtruck services. It adds up quickly enough to still damage your health long after the crash.
Seems like a tarmac spec rally car will be ideal around the Nurburgring. Monza Rally was part of the WRC. A German Rally with a N'Ring Special Stage would be very cool. They could include the South loop, too.
There's an event they do where the rally cars run the circuit the opposite direction. An onboard of a tarmac spec Opel Manta 400 or Sierra Cosworth RS500 would be an absolute treat.
Misha man! At what point do you say that a car is unsafe to run like this? How did you know it wasn’t cutting into the side walls of the tires and could have blown out going 200 kmh r faster??? Lol you have nuts of steel my friend! I love you and the channel brother be safe out there!!!

Tbh, I thought with the noises and scratching, I feared that the car might break or disintegrate but I am glad that it held up.
And wow
Accident at 6:29
I hope they made it out okay.....
The car made it home without any issues other then the slight scrubbing.
How did you know i was begging for an evo 9 wagon video! My hero!!!
That fuel gauge drop reminds me of my Subaru when I went on the ring. Also a quarter tank in 1 lap GONE. But it's the price we pay for fun.
Looks like you hit about 250 at one point. Very very nice!
The acceleration in 5th and 6 th is pretty good.
This evo 9 wagan is so rare
Holyshoot! Amazing footage! Keep going! Love your video!
Wow, they were doing probably more than 180kmh and lost traction, getting sideways slowed them down to maybe 150, but its still lethal speed, amazing that they were standing next to the track after that, i know i would be hugging the nearest tree.
This is the most accurate comment ive seen till now
Say hello to my wagon friend
-Estate Montana
damn i remember JRM from the old days
the days of ~110k SEK r32 GTR's and ~80k SEK r33 gts-25t's
@Misha I died when the passenger said "DAUM" your face at 4:57 PRICELESS, yes tires way to wide! that was a good belly laugh! Thank you!
Lets hope that the guy made it
Was hesitating on buying one, but the thing that held me back the RHD only (because it would have been my DD in Switzerland)... Ended with a 2018 WRX STI instead !😍😍
I love the respect you have for people crashing they car. I skip the front car at point of impact. Because it sucks for they guy crashing. Big props man, love the content, i hope one day you will drive my rb20det powered big single turbo 200sx s13 track tool👌
1/4 fuel tank in 16km..amazing
Those tires were a rubber band factory of "Self Clearancing"
Car would have crazy potential with right set of tires, its not all about look. Thats even effecting into safety.
235 is the oem and with the right offset 255 is no problem.
Love the 180km/h speedo
It's hilarious seeing the speedometer go out the bound despite being almost stock 😂
It's originally speed limited to 112mph/180kph, makes it look crazy fast going off the clock though 😅
I bought one of these 10 years ago. Such a good car, wish I never sold it.
Sabine Schmitz was the Queen of the ring Misha is the King of the ring. What a legend
I remember buying the hem pedal faces 25 years ago they were all the go. Great video misha.
Good to see you back on the ring misha, good to keep it going and dont get fear of crashing get you. Confidence!
That rubbin’ is outrageous! 😂My Hawk pads squeak like this too, but they’re great! Nice send, Misha.
The EVO IX is my dream car so seeing another one on the channel is great

I love Evo's but this is special, a shame is so rare...
