- G'day fellow cocoa enthusiasts! I hope you enjoy my reaction/commentary to 'A time to Kill'. I went into this movie completely blind and I wasn't expecting it to be so hard-hitting. I apologise too in advance for some of the audio quality from my mic as there is some ringing sounds throughout.
I would also like to thank everyone watching my previous videos for all the love and encouragement. This is very new to me and all the support is extremely helpful. Thank you also to all my recent subscribers (everyone subscribed so far) we exceeded 100 subs within a week which is insane!!! Couldn't have done it without such a warm and supportive fanbase.

Finally need more RUclipsrs to react to this movie
Was a tough one but worth the watch! 🙌
@@thecocoacouch every actor was simply amazing in this movie
Fun fact: Donald Sutherland and his son Keifer Sutherland are both in this movie! One a drunk lawyer and the other the brother of one of the guys who hurt little Tanya.
I love that you closed your eyes in the court scene at the end! Great reaction!
Thanks! Was a tough watch.
this movie is my favorite adaptation of a John Grisham novel. i read the book when i was 16 and it was a horrible but formative experience for me. it wrecked me then and it wrecks me to this day.
and i promise you, there are people who lose the right to our empathy the second they do something this horrific to anyone, let alone a child. there's a limit to the evil empathy can reach. people like this made their beds, and now they can lie in it cold and alone.
You have law and you have justice. They don't always coincide.
You are so precious. We need more people in the world like you. This movie is so intense but so important too.
Ecclesiates 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
It’s always amazing to me how otherwise loving, caring, deeply generous people, have nonsensical racist opinions. I’ve seen it with people I know that I love, and I hear crazy things come out of their mouth. The U.S. still has an intense racism problem. Its part of the deep fabric of this country and it may never go away.
You’re absolutely correct. I just wonder if it’s a humanity problem too and that US history just amplified it?
@@thecocoacouchThat’s a good theory actually!
Yes, well said.
John Grisham, who wrote the story, has written so many great legal dramas. This one though, I have to say, was the hardest movie to watch. Right now in America, there is such a rise in white nationalism that these kinds of people are flourishing after Trump became president, and watching this movie and seeing the openness with which these people declare their hatred and cruelty is triggering. I am glad you showed this movie, and your reactions, Oscar were just spot on.
What a nonsensical statement. Just so you know, the legal case Grisham based this on was completely race reversed. The girl(s) were white, the perpetrator was black. There is no "rise of white nationalism" in this country. That sentiment has shrunk to practical nonexistence in the U.S. This is you projecting your political bias. Also, to be factual, minorities did better under Trump and directly benefitted from his policy, hence why his minority voters increased in his second election. Please stop perpetuating lies and being divisive.🙄
That's total crap - white nationalism is BS -
I have seen multiple RUclipsrs reaction to this movie but you're the first who actually was true to your feelings about this movie
Love your reaction! First time I have seen someone actually close their eyes and listen to the story. Crying was appropriate.
I’m so glad you found this channel! I watched this movie as a child (parents shouldn’t have let me lol) but I’m glad they did. This movie makes me cry every time I watch it. Great reaction!
Thank you! I can see why tho, has some incredible lessons that need to be taught at some point. Welcome ☺️
To whomever loved this movie, I would also suggest "Mississippi Burning"
I’ve seen this movie a million times. it’s a very tough movie to watch but very impactful. I thoroughly enjoyed watching along with you ❤
Such an incredible movie, but so brutal to watch. If you haven’t seen the trailer, it’s worth a watch. One of the best I’ve ever seen.
I am glad, I found your channel. This film is an emotional rollercoaster. That final speech by Jake is great. This film has brought me to tears a few times now, but I am glad, i watched your reaction to it.
Yeah that court scene is so powerful hey
Jackson had done other serious acting performances before in smaller roles. I think this movie was his biggest opportunity to show his talent to a wider audience
Well he nailed it. Glad he’s been able to come so much further since then.
@Gee-Money oh for real!? I wanna react to that too at some point.
Die hard with a vengeance was a huge role that also has racial subject manner with a ton of action. He’s partnered with Bruce Willis it was a huge hit
@cindernaz I wouldn't say it was a huge role for him. He played second banana and was kind of comedy relief at times, and the franchise had dropped a little bit. And it was a Bruce Wilis action vehicle. No one was expecting much from him and no one came there to see him act. A Time to Kill is a Grisham movie and Grisham has a reputation for making great courtroom dramas and the film attracted people looking for good acting. People knew Jackson could act but hadn't seen most of his work except Pulp Fiction
The Negotiator is a great movie with Samuel Jackson.
Brother you're a great reactor... So genuine... Your edits are amazing too .. subbed... Keep it up!
I really appreciate that man! Takes work haha. Thanks for the sub ☺️
@@thecocoacouch yes sir!
Your reaction is like seeing this movie for the first time😢🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
I was so mad when this movie came out, because I live in Canada, in Quebec, in a French province... and they translated the title to "Not Guilty"...
Thank you for spoiling it, French Canadian translator...
Great reaction
Oh you’re kidding! 😡 that’s so frustrating there goes all the tension.
The Negotiator Samuel L is one of my favorites.
It is always good to see people in such a film for whom the injustice is just as unbearable as it is for oneself. Such reactions also give hope for humanity despite all the abysses that such films reveal.
I recommend for the future the film "Higher Learning" (1995), which is by the way also very well suitable to understand both perspectives, thus also the wrong one, which remains wrong despite all understanding of course!
Cheers! Yeah it’s good to have a multiple perspectives even though it’s clear one is wrong. I’ll have a look into that film 🍺
What I loved about that movie is even though one character becomes absolutely vile, you see where it came from. And it’s vital to understand how these people are created so that hopefully, as a society, we can work to prevent monsters like that from being made.
Great reaction! This is one of my favorites of the John Grisham movies. Another personal favorite is The Client (1994) it isn’t as heavy as A Time to Kill, but it is a fun thriller with a stellar cast.
Happy to have found your channel, looking forward to more reactions from you.
Thank you!!! Glad you have yah on board ☺️☺️
Loved your reaction.
I appreciate your earnest reaction to a really good movie. Nice job mate.
To Kill A Mockingbird is another great one! Maybe not for a reaction video, but definitely worth watching!
It would be a great reaction video!
Both Matthew McConaughey and Chris Cooper are in another movie that I highly recommend, Lone Star (1996).
If you have never watched the classic To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) , it's a must see. Another good movie that is on the subject of racism is, American History X (1998).
A movie set in the South that I recommend is Fried Green Tomatoes (1991).
Great movie recommendations!
Great reaction!!
Cheers!!
I truly loved your reveal it shows you have a good heart! If I change one thing about this review I would ask that you increase the volume of the movie. Other than that it was a wonderful review.
Thank you I really appreciate that ☺️
Great movie.
Great reaction.
You’ve got a new subscriber.
Another on my all time top 5 favorites list.
Saw a comment about the audio. Just wanted to say, since I just dropped into the Robocop reaction as well. That one is perfect in my opinion while this one is a little low. Great reactions tho :)
Okay I guess that means it’s getting better? 😂 thanks man ☺️ glad you enjoyed it.
How did you decide to do this film? I’ve mentioned it to other reactors before but have t seen many actually do it. This and the color purple are the two films that really got me into learning about race/racism and history.
-you’re gonna do really well at this reacting thing for many reasons.
Hey I appreciate that a lot thanks! ☺️ I’ve always been a fan of Matthew’s roles like interstellar, Contact and his romantic comedies but I heard this movie really cemented him as a ‘good actor’. Obviously I took a lot away from the film other than his performance.
You do know this film is fiction, right? That the actual legal case it's based on is completely race reversed?
Hi Oscar, I would recommend watching The Color Purple if you haven't already, it's really good.
Oh yes that’s the one with Oprah and Whoopi. I haven’t seen it yet! Cheers 🥂
I mean it’s not that good
Great reaction
Hi Oscar, just catching up again with a few of your past Reactions. Just going by the trailer, I knew this would be a good but tough movie to watch when it first came out. From what I remember, I think they filmed it over in South Carolina. Living in the deep South, here in Savannah ( GA.), it's always interesting to see who can pull off a Southern accent lol. This movie was just full of great actors. Btw- Kevin Spacey, he actually made a movie right here yrs later. It was about a murder case. He can do a Southern accent very well. 😊
This wasn’t Sam Jackson’s breakout role, Pulp Fiction was, two years prior…..
But this movie is a punch in the gut too…
Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (1994) was Samuel L. Jackson's major breakout role. It was after that film he became a household name.
I still need to see that actually. Cheers.
Nice reaction and great movie.
Thanks heaps ☺️
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOVIES THAT I LOVE TO "HATE WATCH" BUT I CAN ONLY DO IT ABOUT ONCE A YEAR
Hahaha lol, yeah it was a tough watch for me.
@@thecocoacouch
THANK YOU FOR REACTING TO IT
I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET PEOPLE TO REACT TO THIS MOVIE AS THERE ARE ONLY LIKE 2 REACTION VIDEOS ON RUclips FOR IT
WORKED IN VIDEO RENTALS FOR OVER 12 YEARS AND SEEN THOUSANDS OF MOVIES AND THIS IS IN MY TOP MOVIES
BUT THIS "LORD OF THE FLYS"1990 AND "OF MICE AND MEN" WITH JOHN MALKOVICH ARE ONES THAT YOU CAN ONLY WATCH NO SOONER THEN A YEAR APART
Awesome!!! Thanks for the suggestions. ☺️☺️
To answer your question: "Pulp Fiction," which came out the year before this one, was Samuel Jackson's big break (although he'd had small parts in something like 30 movies before that).
Also good will hunting is a really good movie.
Yeah I love that movie. One of those ones I know I’ll always cry in.
I cried along with you ❤
His breakout role would be Pulp Fiction. Even though he had an impressive acting resume at that point, being in everything from Coming to America to Do The Right Thing, those roles were still minor compared to him as Jules in PF.
Brilliant movie
Excellent movie. I cried at the end. Was a novel.
❤❤❤❤❤
Samuel Jackson was in The Negotiator with Kevin Spacey. Excellent movie.
The national guard were called in to quell the riot situation. The previous riot led to at least one violent death and several injuries
Dang 😔
My mom actually watched this movie almost about a year ago after hearing about it on the today show so she went an watched it (Fun Fact: Mom graduated from high school in the same year this movie came out).
Wow that would have been so fun, since all the behaviours, trends and such would have resonated with her the most.
Rainmaker with Matt Damon is another adaptation of John Grisham novel & it is quite good.
I hate that so many reactors won't react to this and other movies like it because they don't want to deal with the negative emotions, aka racism, they want to "have a good time". Life is full of both positive and negative emotions, so kudos to you for dealing with the gut punch. That last line in the courtroom is so true, even today, a lot of white Americans couldn't care less or will at least sweep stuff under the rug when it doesn't concern their people, but when it does they're all in. If you're interested, another great legal drama is 12 Angry Men, which way more people react to it doesn't deal with racism, but rather xenophobia, but everyone is white so it's tolerable to them I guess.
If you haven’t watched American History X that would be a great movie to react to. Has some hard themes but it’s an important message.
Yeah I was told to watch it by a friend years ago but haven’t yet. I’ll write it down thank you ☺️
I think the book is brilliant and the movie was really well-done as well. But I don’t think I’ll ever read/watch it again
I read this book twice!
What I crazy amazing movie! Just to tell this story is an education in itself!
I don't know about before this but there's one called The Negotiator which is an other Sam Jackson & Kevin Spacey enjoy 👍
This movie is way too relevant in America now, now it’s not only in the south, it’s the whole stupid country
I agree and I’d also add that racism has always effected the whole country
This movie deals with southern racist thought. The KKK mentality, 'good old boys '. The mental process was Jesus was white, Christianity was white, and every other colored person were worth less in God's eyes. 'The way things should be' were the white man in control and women and other races submitting, as it's been done for hundreds of years. 'Good old boy' is a southern white guy who is nice to his grandma and went to church now and then. The rest of his actions were between God and him
It’s obviously horrid just because of the racism involved but it’s also just wrong too as we know Jesus may have not been white AND he came to save everyone (Jews and gentiles being everyone else)
Hi Oscar, new subscriber here. You should react to what's eating Gilbert Grape! It's a really good emotional movie movie with Johnny Depp and Leonard DiCaprio. Hope you have a good day 😊
Cheers and welcome!! 🍻
@@thecocoacouch Thank you!! 😊
Time To Kill is based on a book with the same name.
The movie takes place in 1995
Have you seen Memento? If not, you should definitely check it out.
Wrote that down! ☺️
This movie has one of the greatest summations!
How do you put an all white jury in the racist South into the mind of an outraged, grieving parent? You tell a heart-rending vivid account of the gang r*pe of a little girl...without mentioning her race. They, or course, are imagining their own daughters, nieces, granddaughters; neighbors' kids... "Now imagine that she's white."
Bang!! They were in the head of the outraged, grieving father!
It was based on a completely true story of a black man who killed two white girls. Google it.
Go watch friday! ice cube chris tucker lets GOOO!!!!
Naw Samuel L Jackson’s first breakout role was in Coming to America with Eddie Murphy. He’s done so many movies since then and his story is a real one! Look him up!
I feel like it’ll take me ages to watch all his films since he’s done so flippin many 😂
Thank you for being an amazing person I’m from Texas and this doesn’t work for me. I hate racist asshats. This movie still breaks my heart…
I watch this in theater when he was innocent best scene…
Yeah it was an incredible scene to watch.
Fun fact, Matthew and Sandra were dating at this period.
Love your réaction when you saw Kevin Spacey : of course he IS the Bad Guy. Obviously
Billy Ray Cobbs mom should've used some discipline on her son's. I don't blame her for her son's actions
You absolutely need to turn the sound up on the actual movie.
Yeah 3rd video sorry man, was still new to editing 😆
I cant hear it.
I can barely hear the dialog in the movie clips, and I have the volume turned all the way up. Just a tip.
Yeah thanks. Not much I can do though unfortunately (it being one of my first videos several months ago) unless I re-upload.
what's with the sound...can barely even hear any of the movie?
If your going to turn the movie volume down that low then at least put subtitles on.
I really like your review but you need to turn up the sound. I could barely hear you and I couldn't hear anything the people in the movie said and I have my sound system turned all the way up
Great movie, great reaction.
However, it sickens me that it takes 'imagening it happened to a white girl' to set Carl free.
Maybe THAT'S the point...
I love your channel, but your voice is at one level, but your movies sound is very low so I have to keep adjusting up and down.
Can't hear the movie at all
I wish I could have heard the movie audio better. If I turned it up enough to hear the movie, your audio would have been too loud.
This is a fantastic movie. But not hearing the movie audio was disappointing.
A lot of the time it’s to avoid copyright but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were moments the movie audio could have been higher since I’m new to this. You should watch one of my more recent videos if you’d like to see a reaction with better audio levelling!
@@thecocoacouch there are hundreds of other reactors that have audio that is at the same level as their commentary.
@@GaryLBlakeley I appreciate the constructive feedback!☺
@@thecocoacouch sounded a-ok to me. We've already seen the movie anyway. 💁♀️
Thanks for the content! New sub. ❤
I'm so sorry to say, but I can't finish this video. I cannot hear it. I may try your channel again but if I can't hear I'm not going to watch. So sorry.
That’s okay. One of my first videos, aren’t all that great 😆
@@thecocoacouch still better than I could do!
Your audio is so low, could barely hear the movie
Hello, love your reactions, but this needs to come in much louder. I listen to most stuff at a volume of 2-3 but here even a 10 was not quite loud enough.
It’s one of my first videos 👍 they get better 😆
Such a good movie, it's a hard watch but it's a good movie. A bit controversial because the true crime that inspired it was actually 2 young white girls being raped by a black man. Grisham wondered what would have happened if the father had taken matters into his own hands instead of waiting for a trial.
Ah I see. Yeah it’s pretty tough to watch I felt exhausted afterwards
He's not innocent, he's not guilty! 😊
Can’t hear the audio on the movie. Please turn it up.
The daily comment
You’re a legend 😂😎
This movie has tons of great actors in it
