  • After reprovisioning in Darwin for our anticipated 3 month journey into the Kimberley's we head off for Western Australia.
We cruise along the coast day tripping to Fog Bay where we find an amazing salt water fall fed by a rock lagoon where we take a dip to cool off. We then head to Cape Ford and find a crocodile laying on the mud flats and a couple amazing trumpet shells buried in the sand, before we finally cross the border into Western Australia stopping at Lacrosse Island.

Enjoying following your channel. Very envious that you escaped all the lockdowns here in NSW. I’m curious about what dinghy you have and it’s weight. I’m finding my transom (also a 1260) really getting weighed down by my highfield and 20 hp engine. I have a combined weight of 80kg dinghy & 44kg engine. Looking at options for lighter dinghy although also considering a transom extension. Interested in your experience.

We swapped the 9.8 for an 18hp 2 stroke Tohatsu and yes its quite heavy. We have an 8 person barefoot bosun and on the water it's awesome, but WAY TOO HEAVY to drag down the beach. It's not even possible when the tide goes out 500m or more, 50m kills me.

@@SailingNoRegrets You need to get an "Anchor Bungee" and a small second achor. This pulls the dinghy 20m offshore - then you can pull it back in when needed. See this - ruclips.net/video/Mh3U1ae4D5I/видео.html

@@SailingNoRegrets Is your transom dragging much when the dinghy is on the Davits. I have the Tohatsu 20hp 4 stroke. Great engine.

The setup they use here is 100m of 6mm rope through a block (often just a wooden block) to an anchor offshore so you can feed the tender 50m away, then feed it back in. We were ok without one, but a couple of times it would have been handy

Not really, we are fairly heavy being liveaboards and supplies for a circumnavigation, we mostly try to keep weight off the bow, a half full water tank or less we find makes the biggest difference for us

Is your boat a chartered vessel or do you own it?

We own it, but it is built to charter survey
