I also read the book queen of the air it was one of the best books I've read him and lietzel were finally getting things going when she had her fall so said it tore Alfredo up inside
This is the first I have seen of Vera flying. Everything else I have seen shows just Alfredo and Lalo. As a kid (I am 67) I wondered how a two act could work with no one to handle the bar for hard tricks. Ester Macias, mother of Jorge Preciado my teacher told me that when Codonas worked for her father there was a sister in the act.
@@williamcodona68 You are not biased. I saw Javier Meraz catch the quad two weeks in a row. He probably went years between misses. From film and pictures Alfredo Codona was better. My measure is style and presentation You have never heard of the Meraz family. They are a small circus in Mexico. They only tried to take their flying act to a bigger show once and it didn't work out, not their fault.
I’m only biased because the Flying Codonas are family ha ha! I couldn’t imagine even trying to swing on a trapeze, never mind the tricks that are so beautifully performed. I haven’t heard of the Meraz family but my knowledge of modern circuses and performers is non existent.
@@williamcodona68 No one has heard of the Meraz family outside of Mexico. My sister and her husband Miguel did work in the U.S. and Canada but the flying act never did. They were the best I actually saw with my own eyes and I know Alfredo Codona was better. I have seen Terry Lemus throw a triple. Best woman I have seen although I have met Antoinette Conchello who was better. She, her husband Art and their catcher were all trained by Alfredo Codona. I have seen many other flying acts but the best by consensus of circus fans and performers was Alfredo Codona.
@@williamcodona68 After watching The Circus on Netflix, I started trawling the net for more information on the Codonas. I was really hooked by the documentary. The trapeze artists really pushed their boundaries. And then I came across your wonderful video. (So you are family :) I wish I could board a time machine to visit the Ringling Circus and watch the Codonas do their jawdroppingly mesmerizing acts. Sad there was a tragic ending. Looks like a lot of people here are related to them. :) More on the Codonas here: www.circopedia.org/The_Codonas
They were truly amazing here. Does anyone do anything similar to this in todays time? I’ve seen cirque du soleil in person many times & they come pretty close or similar to their act.
Hi. This is an amazing video. We are trying to put together a brief piece about Alfredo Codona, and would like to use a few seconds of this video (the triple somersault sequence). Could you contact us about this?
There is a clip from the Dupont Variety Show, Gramps does a Triple Cart Wheel, appearing to stop and restart at each revolution. Like Moon Walking in the air. I have not been able to find this video again in a viewable format. Alfredo Codona is my Bloodline My Great Grandfather. The story surrounding his death hasn't been told. What would cause a man like Alfredo to murder his wife??? Lillian his true luv..... Died from a fall that was not an accident... Research the date the broken ring was commissioned to be added to the Lillian Leitzel Monument??? The monument has been badly vandalized a few years ago. Our family could never understand why suddenly Alfredo gave all his money and property to Lalo.. Cuz Vera got drunk and told Alfredo, Vera And her mother killed Lillian... Don't want to bore you

My wife's great aunt was married to Lalo and heard this story many times. So very nice to see the video. Very spectacular.

So incredible - this was 1932. Magnificent!
I was just recently reading about trapeze and discovered the record breaking feats of the Codonas.
Holy crap they’re amazing
Todos ellos orgullosamente Mexicanos!!!🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 Verónica, Lalo y Alfredo Codona!!!!!
Amazing! I've been trying to locate this short film for years! Nice find, William. 😄👍
