So this video is long in the making, it started off as an idea i thought would maybe take 15 minutes, but it grew and grew. I've tried something a little different with this video, if it works then i might do it for some future videos as well, not every video, just ones where it fits. and apologies to those that use them the subtitles seem to be taking forever to process than normal.
Due to the nature of the position, it is very dangerous, but the time period and the personality of the king can change it a lot. It gives enough power that many people want it and since it is not a hereditary title, practically anyone can get it. Being in the middle of court intrigues, its owner must pay attention to the machinations of rivals, but also to stay in the king's good graces. If something goes wrong, the ruler can blame the Hand first. Also, if the king is in danger, so is the Hand. It can also involve military duties. In peaceful times, it is safer under a just king, while under the Mad King it can be a downright deadly danger.
Being nearly as powerful as the king, but without the protection of the popular notion of "right to rule" that the king enjoyed, is doomed to be a very difficult, dangerous job.
For the watch ! & The Lord commander!! Here here! For Brother Bittersteel! “The King Shits, the hand wipes” -Jamie Lannister… My mother has taken a liking to your videos mi’lord! She’s become fond of them especially the ones one Jaehaerys
Excellent work on this one - I don’t think I’ve seen a comprehensive breakdowns of Hands and their fates before. I particularly like the statistical determination at the end re: how likely you are to die by violence if you’re Hand.
It’s very obvious that Thaddeus Rowan did cause the downfall of Valyria, I think he’s a secret child of the forest and also a faceless man and also a mermaid like Varys and he’s immortal too.
I'd be curious about a video detailing the many accomplishments and involved activities of Septom Barth. By involved activities i mean like him and the maester dealing with.....targaryen daughter who went to Valyria. I'm awful with names sorry
Hello Ser did you see Fantasy Havens history if the Blackfyres won? Bittersteel actually did become Hand of the King. To The Hand of the King, Ser Aegor Bittersteel and The King! 🍻
@lukebarroso449 I didn't need a glorious video for sure although I wish Lord Haven had a little more faith in the Blackfyre Regimes😄 Wonderful to see you as always. I hope you are doing excellent. To You My Amazing Friend, To Lord Haven My Fellow Loyalist, To WoW The Creator of Glorious Content, and To THE KING!!!!!!!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
If I was in Westeros, I would NOT want that job. It would be beneficial but it is too much of a risk and could be dangerous and disastrous for my relatives.
@@nont18411 Honestly, Tywin probably would've gotten his due sooner, but he had the fortune of quitting Aerys II's service before he got really of his rocker. Jaime said that later in Aerys's rule burning the hands he disliked became common event.
Well, I once counted there's been 20 monarchs(I counted Rhaenyra here, but not the three usurper kings after her flight from Kingslanding) on the iron throne, which 10 have died due to either direct violence(Maegor I, Daeron I and Aegon II) or self-caused reasons (Baelor I, Aegon IV and Aegon V). Plenty of more like are suspected of being "helped" to get out the way, but that has never been proven. You roughly have 50/50 change of getting a natural death while sitting on the throne. Hands probably have the highest death count in numbers, simply because one king might have half a dozen of them, so they tend to die more frequently too.

It helps to already be a powerful lord in your own right to be hand of the King

Most Hands make better rulers than the Kings they serve
Problem is when they say it out loud
No think A ranger of Nightwatch most dangers job. Probaly more, if you go by death count.
Sailors did have pretty high death count.
1st to take the Black for House Blackfyre 🗡 Bittersteel would have made a loyal and fierce Hand to The True Kings🗡

We'll probably get Fire and Blood part 2 before we get Winds of Winter
The second most or the the most powerful person in the seven kingdoms?
Depending on the king and hand in question I suppose.
If I was in Westeros, I would NOT want that job. It would be beneficial but it is too much of a risk and could be dangerous and disastrous for my relatives.
10000% unless your tywin lol
Tywin died shitting while he’s still the hand so he’s no different

The most dangerous job is being in the King's guard
Being a Boy in the slavers bay ✂️ is the most danger thing 😭
I mean being king has a 100% mortality rate
Don't ever other job
It's like the defense against the dark arts position at hogwarts lol
But there is a job called King/Queen which seems like it's more dangerous.... ?

Nope. Average commoner is by far the most dangerous job in Westeros.

Exactly how many "Aegon's" were there exactly?! Please House Targaryen, a little originality for a change?!
Only five, very original when compared to most real life dynasties.
