Rage Against The Machine may have my favorite cover of all time in “Ghost of Tom Joad”. Turning a folk tune into a call for revolution is nothing short of incredible. My “hear me out” is Dragonforce’s cover of “My Heart Will Go On”. Is it goofy and cheesy and weird? Yes, and that’s why I adore it.
Some of my favorite covers: -System of a Down : Metro (originally by Berlin) -Motörhead: Whiplash & Enter Sandman (originally by Metallica) -Five Finger Death Punch : Bad Company (originally by Bad Company) -Clutch : Fortunate Son (originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival) -Shinedown : Simple Man (originally by Lynyrd Skynyrd) -Metallica : Am I Evil (originally by Diamond Head) -Megadeth : Paranoid (originally by Black Sabbath)
Some of mine are: Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver Dragonforce - My Heart Will go On Ghost - Hanging Around Axel Rudi Pell - I See Fire, Hallelujah & Holy Diver
Those are good choices... Some of my favorites are: Excel- Message in a Bottle Melvins- God of Thunder *and* Going Blind Celtic Frost- Mexican Radio Nuclear Assault- Good Times Bad Times Sacred Reich- War Pigs L.A. Guns- Let it Rock ...and, of course, Quiet Riot did pretty well with Cum on Feel the Noize, didn't they? Good video- Cheers 🍻
Love Sacred Reich's version of War Pigs. Exhorder did a killer version of Into The Void on The Law album. Nuclear Assault covering Zeppelin reminds me of Uncle Slam doing Dazed And Confused.🍻Melvins Going Blind rules as well. Nice picks.🤘
My favorite metal cover of all time is Cradle of Filth doing Hallowed Be Thy Name. The slight faster pace really suits those guitar licks well without like speeding it up TOO much. Nick Barkers drumming adds a lot to the song as well. And Dani's screams really bring an extra defiance/urgency to the lyrics. Of course since COF is DIRECTLY inspired by Maiden even audibly it stands to reason they'd be able nail a Maiden jam lol
Nazareth flirted with metal but were mostly hard rock, but they’re one of the best bands for covering songs and making them hard as fuck. Discounting the proto power ballad cover of Everly Brothers’s Love Hurts, they covered Nils Lofgren’s Grin (Beggar’s Day), Woody Guthrie (Vigilante Man), Leon Russell (Alcatraz), Joni Mitchell (This Flight Tonight), Bob Dylan (Ballad of Hollis Brown), and others.
IMO....the following covers transformed the originals and are simply amazing. Metallica covering Bob Seger's Turn the Page and BOC's Astronomy, Tool covering Led Zeppelin's No Quarter, Pantera covering Black Sabbath's Planet Caravan, Deftones covering Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man, and 1349 covering Pink Floyd's Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun.
Solid list..... a personal favorite of mine is Hatebreed's cover of "Ghosts of War" by Slayer.... the production is thicker and has more bass plus Jasta's hardcore bark suits the song well. 🤘
The Ghost Of Tom Joad is a great cover. I dig the original by Bruce Springsteen as well. Saw RATM at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in 99. Great show. Gang Starr and At The Drive In opened.
Good cover songs are awesome. I love hearing a bands spin on another bands song. I think my favorite at the top of my head is Deaths interpretation on Painkiller. The original is awesome but the death version is really cool too especially chuck doing clean vocals. I also really like Dillinger cover on Aphex Twins Come to Daddy. Metal version of a idm track lol. Cool video man
Phantomas - The Omen (Ave Satani) from their 2001 album "The director´s cut" Could´ve picked "One Step beyond" instead or "Rosemary´s Baby" - indeed - i should mention the whole album here.
Before the video : Hallowed be thy Name - Cradle Of Filth (Maiden Cover) Graveworm - Losing My Religion (R.E.M. Cover) Last 3rd Option for me : Wykked Witch - Sweet Dream (Maryilyn Manson) *Edit after watching the video :
Speaking of Crowbar, they also covered Led Zeppelin's 'No Quarter'; pretty true to the original, but adding that 200 tons of HEAVINESS that only Kirk & the boys can conjure up.. 😎
No issue with Green M (agree it’s top notch) but for me, the most impressive Judas Priest cover is Joan Baez’s “Diamond and Rust”. It’s one thing to cover better a prog rock song (Green M) but to transform a pure folk song, different level. The fact they’ve covered it both hard and soft makes it more impressive. My #1.
I will always bring up DragonForce’s cover of My Heart Will Go On, it’s probably my favorite metal cover ever. It takes a song I find boring, with a dissonance between the emotional feeling of the music and the lyrics, and fixes the dissonance and turns it into a hopeful upbeat power metal song. I absolutely love it
Here is some of my favourite cover songs in rock and metal: - Working Class Hero by Green Day (originally performed by John Lennon): In the original version of this song, I found that John’s verses are very hurried, as if he had somewhere to be after recording the song. Green Day’s version, however, flows a lot better as a song and it’s more memorable in my opinion. - Lucifer Over London by Rotting Christ (originally performed by Current 93): The original version is a very weird experimental song with David Tibet doing his typical apocalyptic ranting and raving. Rotting Christ completely transforms the song into a heavy melodic gothic metal song with blackened and industrial undertones. - Breaking The Habit by Affiance (originally performed by Linkin Park): The vastly underrated Cleveland-based metalcore band’s cover of this LINKIN PARK classic is better than the original… And I am saying that as a huge fan of LINKIN PARK. The way that Affiance add so much energy to the song and blastbeats and stuff like that is so, so, SO well done, plus vocalist Dennis Tvrdik going into his higher register at the end of the cover just proves to me that he is one of the most underrated metalcore vocalists I’ve ever heard.
I have to mention three of my favourite cover songs of all time, Over The Hills And Far Away and Walking In The Air both by Nightwish as well as Northwest Passage from Unleash The Archers
Cool picks 👍 Satryricon's I Got Erection by Turbonegro is my fav... All of Destruction's cover songs are awesome...No Class, Whiplash, Holiday in Cambodia to name a few...Megadeth's No More Mr Nice Guy....Anthrax doing Phantom Lord and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Here are some metal covers that I believe sound better than the original: 1. Children of Bodom - Silent Scream 2. Metallica - pretty much all of Garage Inc. Discs 1-2...but if i have to choose 1 song, it would be "Blitzkrieg." 3. Disturbed - Land of Confusion 4. Megadeth - Police Truck Just to name some 🤘😎🤘
Celtic Frost’s cover of Mexican Radio and Metallica’s cover of Diamond Head’s Am I Evil are 2 of my favorites. Also Judas Priest’s cover of Diamonds and Rust from Joan Baez needs mentioning.
Chat Pile , Roots Bloody Roots Cannibal corpse , No Remorse Acid Reign , Hangin on the telephone Anthrax and Public Enemy , Bring the Noise Denzel Curry , Bulls on Parade Emperor , A fine day to die
You know this is a nice list but I think an even better list would be one of the top ten or five best or worst music games, stuff like guitar hero, rock band, wii music and that stuff.
Motorhead has several good covers but I'm surprised you didn't put a Grammy winning cover, by them, on this list... From 2005, Grammy winner for "best metal performance" Motorhead with their rendition of Whiplash.
Happily: In 1991 Metallica's cover of "Stone Cold Crazy" won. In 1993 Soundgarden's cover of "Into The Void" was nominated. In 1995 a live version of Anthrax's cover of "Bring The Noise" was nominated. In 1996 Megadeth's cover of "Paranoid" was nominated In 2000 Motorhead's cover of "Enter Sandman" was nominated. In 2014 Anthrax's cover of "TNT" was nominated. In 2015 Tenacious D's cover of "The Last In Line" won and Anthrax's cover of "Neon Nights" was nominated. And last year Ghost's cover of "The Phantom Of The Opera" was nominated. In retrospect saying 'tons' of covers have won is a bit of an exaggeration lmao, but a few have won and many more have still been acknowledged and nominated and, in my opinion, all of them are just 'fine'.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial that's cool. I appreciate it. I'm very surprised neither of those turned up in hunt, especially on the Grammy website. Sorry if I came across with a bit of snark, I did enjoy the video and this interaction. Thank you. 😁👍 ...I was going to say, "that's a LOT of nominations but few victories" then you addressed it. Maybe I did find something afterall? 19 covers won Grammys ...
I thought Death's Painkiller would be on here
Genuinely thought about it but wanted to highlight cover songs that really transformed the original into something that felt new.
Genuinely thought about throwing 'Ghost Of Tom Joad' in here, excellent cover.
My favorites would be Motley Crue - Helter Skelter, W.A.S.P. - Paint it Black, and Type O Negative - Summer Breeze
@matthewmutchman6360 'Summer Breeze' is great, hard to believe it was originally some hippie dippie soft rock song lmao
W.A.S.P.’s version of The Real Me is good. Hell Awaits / Summer Breeze by Mr. Bungle is a favorite of mine
Cinnamon Girl is another great cover by Type O Negative.
I can still go stupid hard on that Exploited medley by Slayer and Ice-T!
yeeeee I feel that, fun team up & cover
Some of my favorite covers:
-System of a Down : Metro (originally by Berlin)
-Motörhead: Whiplash & Enter Sandman (originally by Metallica)

-Clutch : Fortunate Son (originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival)
-Shinedown : Simple Man (originally by Lynyrd Skynyrd)
-Metallica : Am I Evil (originally by Diamond Head)
-Megadeth : Paranoid (originally by Black Sabbath)
Had me until Five Finger Dick Punch 🙁
What?! No Graveyard Classics on here?! Color me totally shocked! 😱
no EEEE's today unfortunately
Some of mine are:
Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver
Dragonforce - My Heart Will go On
Ghost - Hanging Around
Axel Rudi Pell - I See Fire, Hallelujah & Holy Diver
Love the inclusion of Dream Weaver, the Crowbar version is fucking awesome!

Ministry’s Lay Lady Lay

That powerslave cover is actually nuts. One of my favorite covers of all time.
The Ghost of Tom Joad is my personal favorite RATM cover song. Solitude Aeturnus does a great cover of Heaven and Hell

Wykked Witch covers are a wild. Especially Bring me to life and fade to black.
Speaking of Crowbar, they also covered Led Zeppelin's 'No Quarter'; pretty true to the original, but adding that 200 tons of HEAVINESS that only Kirk & the boys can conjure up.. 😎
Sick idea for a video
Blackbraid with A Fine Day To Die & Warriors!
"The Sound of Silence" by Nevermore, Originally by Simon & Garfunkal. Same lyrics as the original, "slightly" different instrumentals.
as long as it's better than the Disturbed cover
Speaking of Imperial Triumphant, they got a new album planned for next year (Goldstar), and I'll totally be there for it.
@@roguekantian5605 I'm so pumped, can't wait

Its weird how well that song works within DragonForce's brand of glossy, high-octane power metal. Genuinely a solid song.
@ its already a power metal song lyrically, so I guess that’s why they chose to cover it, as well as thinking it’d be funny
I'm inclined to think 'the latter' lmao, but props to em. Honestly their cover of 'Wildest Dreams' on the newest album was really good too.
Trivium: I don't wanna be me
A cover that I really enjoy is Marilyn Mansons cover of Sweet Dreams

I wish Shout 2000 was on this list. One of my all time favourite covers!!!!
Astronomy by Metallica
My sister said that when she saw Cypress Hill with Billy Talent for the final chourus of How I Could Just Kill A Man they played the Rage Version.
Funnily enough "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" also was covered by Primus (note: I think their cover is the best cover version of this song, period.)
Primus doing a cover of this song genuinely makes so much sense
@themetalmeltdownofficial fr
Celtic Frost’s cover of Mexican Radio and Metallica’s cover of Diamond Head’s Am I Evil are 2 of my favorites. Also Judas Priest’s cover of Diamonds and Rust from Joan Baez needs mentioning.
I'm a big fan of Pyrrhon's cover of Crystal Mountain, off the Running Out of Skin EP. It's a Death classic done Pyrrhon's way.
EY YO???? That sounds cool, I'm definitely checking that out.
Chat Pile , Roots Bloody Roots
Cannibal corpse , No Remorse
Acid Reign , Hangin on the telephone
Anthrax and Public Enemy , Bring the Noise
Denzel Curry , Bulls on Parade
Emperor , A fine day to die
Cannibal Corpse - Zero The Hero.
irony is a dead scene -cd is a loud recording.
Dead cross 'Bela Lugosi's Dead'
I love Weedeater's cover of Gimme Back My Bullets. High on Fire's version of The Usurper is also great.
Quiet Riot's cover of Cum On Feel The Noize and Emi Meyer's Cover of For Whom The Bell Tolls are awesome.
Sodom Turn your head around originaly by Tank from Better Off Dead album.
Vader - raining blood.
There's a lot of great covers of babykiller out there. Swine overlord and brutalism killed their covers of it
Hatesphere - Bark at the Moon
They make it a little bit faster
Green Manalishi is still my favorite metal cover.
My Dying Bride did a really cool cover of Roads by Portishead
Not metal but i love Working My Way Back To You by The Spinners lmao
Glad you noticed I was looking handsome.
Best metal songs covered by non metal bands
Metallica has done some of the best covers over the years in my opinion. Am i evil, Blitzkrieg, Breadfan and Last caress/green hell to name but a few.
