If you can't find food because you're taking lots of time to keep the chicks warm, getting extra nesting material is a great idea. It lets her spend more time foraging and less time keeping them warm.
🥺💔Oh my God. So sad to see! By this time I have already gotten 7 chics out of 8 eggs. My birds, Sophi and Andy are such a good parents! I’m so proud of them! We have overcome woodpeckers and everything..😅 But our chics are just fine and they even left the nest yesterday! 💕🙌 I’m so happy for being able to send 7 chics to the world! Wish all the best to Mindy!🐣🤞💕 Thank you for your good work!Regards from Sweden 🇸🇪 🥰

Something that I've seen work, though not guaranteed, is a recording of a feeding chirp from a different parent of the same species. Seems to be easier to get them to open up and feed if they hear that
damn remind me to never come back as a bird :(( Poor Biddy.. it's not unusual that a first clutch is lost due to inexperience, but bad weather and poor food supply definitely didn't help those two out. Better luck next time babies.
I have a Momma Robin in a nest Outside my window right now. Setup a camera to watch the 4 babies. I do worry the babies will fall out as she built the nest in a bush and its pretty windy here. the bush will bob up and down quite a bit.
Hi Fionn, remember me? Well it seems I was completely wrong about the little tits in my nest box. I've not seen any baby fledglings (the neighbour says she found a dead baby on her grass, but I did not witness this so I can't say if it was a fledgling blue tit or not). However, this pair are STILL bringing nesting materials into the box this very day. No noise from the box, just comings and goings still with nesting material. I'll keep you updated, I'm very confused by them and have no idea what they're doing.
I heard it is possible, that they try a second time when its still early enough in the year. So maybe they losst all their first chicks and are laying eggs a second time?
@@alsatian1266 It's possible. They are still flying in and out of the box today (18th June 2021) but not frequently. One flies in and stays in for hours.
Up the road here in Belfast and I haven't seen any activity or noise from the nest box for the past week, up until then the parents were active and flying far to try and get food. I presume the worst this year.
That was a terribly disappointing outcome for Biddy n Miley. I had a feeling it would be bad with the weather the way it was but never thought they'd all die 🥺. Really hope Mork n Mindy get on better for you.

Hi, love your videos! Love your narration, you describe what's happening in a very caring way! You obviously feel such empathy for the tits and their chicks. Think it s been a bad year for blue tits, our pair ended up without any surviving young, it's so hard for them!
So my bluetit family have fledged from my nestbox yesterday. All 7 eggs hatched. I never saw any of them fledge unfortunately and I found 1 dead bluetit chick about 8pm last night feet away from the nestbox. I can only hope and pray the other 6 are strong enough to make it on the outside world. I agree they are so small and vulnerable it's a wonder any chicks manage to make it to become an adult.
@8:00 are they feeding the chicks a black widow spider? does spider venom not effect birds too? is this even a black widow area? is this in desperation?
@@FionnODonoghue Thanks for a reply to this! It had me getting on the google to learn more and it does appear you do have a few different 'black widow' esq spiders that do cause hospitalizations. The numbers of Nobel False Widow Spider are actually becoming an issue in Ireland I am reading.
At 1:09 I'm pretty sure the chick is NOT regurgitating it is defecating and Mum is getting rid of it. The chick can be seen turning around after getting the food.
Why did these birds do so badly compared to the other nest? How far apart are they… one area has more food than the other? The other nest was better at finding food maybe?
unfortunately maggots can be harm full seemingly ! Meal worms would be best i put some out but the seem to ignore them and the starlings just gobble them up straight away,
Poor Biddy and Miley, didn't they lose all of their chicks last year? I'm sure there were blue tit chicks in the nesting box in my garden area and there was a lot of in and out activity up until a week or two ago, from morning till night. I assumed that was mostly the male bringing food because he was so busy, he rarely seemed to even stop for breath. I haven't seen any fledglings though, unless I just missed them, and the adults are still coming to feed at times. We have had some magpies hanging around recently so my main concern is that they were here for the chicks. Let's hope that the chicks were big enough and managed to fledge successfully.

Speaking as someone who has hand raised chicks from hatch day... they can be VERY difficult to feed, and I have opposable thumbs.
Something that I've seen work, though not guaranteed, is a recording of a feeding chirp from a different parent of the same species. Seems to be easier to get them to open up and feed if they hear that
Biddy and Miley had a tough 2 years.
It's pretty instinctive that any wild bird is going to eliminate dead chicks from the nest. This is nature.
Yeah and their parents might have done the same to remove their dead siblings in the past.

Its amazing what these little lives have to got through ! amazing really !
If any chicks fall out of the nest, put them right back in the nest and that’s the best way to help and save them
Do birds feel grief or sadness over the death of their partner, or chicks?

In my opinion, that is the magic of nature, that there is life at all out there ! Thanks for watching
Poor Biddy she isn’t have much luck 😞
No ! unfortunately so
What does the mother place the dead chick? Does she just drop it on the ground?
Good question she would fly just a little distance from the nest and then just drop it ! This is to avoid predator detection !
The best fed are the first to ask for and receive food and slowly the other chicks become weaker, until they die. (starving)
I am confused. Did she kill and remove the final surviving chick at the end?
No i believe it had died before she took it out sadly!
@8:00 are they feeding the chicks a black widow spider? does spider venom not effect birds too? is this even a black widow area? is this in desperation?
We don't have black widows so I sure hope not ! They do feed quiet alot on spiders and other insects :)

Combination of bad weather and maybe some inexperience on there part but unfortunately cant be 100%
Don't you hate it when you're dad is partly responsible for the death of 4 of your siblings

How sad, so sorry for them..but it is nature.
All you had to do was get them a 12 oz steak or a number 1 at McDonalds and you could of saved a whole family.... ?
