"Everyone who survived the War is meant to live." - Noriko ....I have never cried harder.
I'm a 6th Generation, Mustang military officer, finally medically Retired. GWoT Marine (2002-2006), Army (2007-2012), and Air Force (2017-2019) Veteran. "Shin Godzilla" was my favorite for a while, but then "Minus One" came in and addresses veteran issues, PTS, and Survivor's Guilt.
I never thought I would cry at a Godzilla movie. I saw it 4 times in theatres and was weeping every time.
The US veteran's community loves this movie. God Bless America, God Protect Japan. Former enemies, now Greatest of Allies. Redemption! 😇😇😇

I am a Navy FMF Corpsman veteran that served for five years, and was medically retired after being blown up in Iraq for the second time. I also suffer from major PTSD related issues. Survivors guilt, night terrors, major head trauma that gives me seizures and vision problems, and manic depression. This film had me in tears several times. It was so cathartic to see a representation of PTSD portrayed so accurately and with so much emotion and compassion. I have only seen a few films do this to such an accurate degree, and this movie left me in awe. I think any veteran suffering from PTSD would absolutely feel the same way about this film. Thank you for your service mate, and I echo your words on this film completely.

Those of us who live free... those of us who live... thank God for you, and pray you, too, live in peace, pride, and joy for what you gave.
Godzilla is the wrath of Humanity itself, a representation of the darkness we can create with the worst of our actions.
And whether he stands as friend or foe in his movies, it is ultimately always we who unite, endure, and rise above that anger and destruction.
      We are the Monsters.
But we are also the Heroes.
      God Bless all of you.

The way Tachibana comes to realize that Shikishima has been atoning for the deaths on Odo Island is soooo good. Fixing the plane and fitting it with bombs; he understands that Shikishima is ready to die and he forgives him. Telling him to live is his way of telling Shikishima it's time to forgive yourself. Just a masterclass in character development.

Tachibana was a mechanic for the Kamikaze Suicide Squad. He had been maintaining the flying coffins of his friends who took off and never returned. Although it is not depicted in the movie, I think he must have been very sad. Shikishima was also a member of the suicide squad, but he did not take off. Shikishima tried to detonate himself with Godzilla as atonement for the war, but Tachibana gave him a way to live. Tachibana was finally able to make arrangements for his friends to survive.

This does a remarkable job showing post-combat psychological trauma, better than a lot of more drama based movies. It also shows the veterans being willing to climb right back in to fight the fight and do it gladly, even when it terrified them in the past.

One of the smartest moves they made with this film was scaling down Godzilla's size. It made the humans able to fight back to some extent, but more importantly it made the humans perceptable to Godzilla. In a lot of versions he is so big that his killing of people doesn't feel like any kind of actual attack, but just a consequence of his existence. Which is scary in its own way. But I think this was is much better.

I love Shikishima's character arch: a failed kamikaze pilot returned home in disgrace, everyone dumps everything on him and he feels the extreme weight of his shame, meets Noriko and Akiko and starts taking care of them (while still dealing with the shame), and finally regains his honor and his life in the final confrontation (and shows what a fearless fighter pilot he really was!) and comes home with a real reason to live; Noriko and Akiko (who was soooo adorable, btw!)
Like Shin Godzilla, ToHo brings Godzilla back to what he originally was: an enemy of Man. a mindless creature bent on senseless destruction; a metaphor for war itself, and for Godzilla; the threat of nuclear war. I thought Shin Godzilla was the scariest incarnation of him since the original, but I'm mistaken, THIS is clearly the scariest incarnation of Godzilla! maybe half the size of Shin as well as Legendary, but the power of his ranged attack... worse than anything else ever done!
    Fantastically, brilliantly, amazingly done!

I feel like the "problem" with Shin Godzilla (which isn't so much a problem, just a different take) is that Godzilla felt more like an animal not really knowing what it was doing, it was just protecting itself while undergoing painful mutations
It was a good movie but Godzilla just didn't feel like Godzilla to me, he only really attacked when provoked, outside of that he just walked around
Godzilla Minus One shows what Godzilla is meant to be: Senseless destruction, with the power of a nuclear bomb.

    • @bhargavipba
      @bhargavipba 13 дней назад +3

@@blinkachu5275It's not a problem. It's very tragic. Shin Godzilla is not the enemy of man, but is suffering because of man. I know minus one has that too, since he is created by nuclear fallout, but Minus one Goji was more animalistic and territorial than Shin Goji was. Shin Godzilla had no idea what was happening until its 4th form and was just trying to survive.

One of the things that works so well for this movie is the musical score. It creates such different moods and emotions.
Some of the music is downright ominous, creepy and suspenseful. While the other half is remarkably beautiful, somber and haunting. I also love the use of choirs in this one as well. They feel godly and sublime. Of course, the film wouldn’t be complete without Godzilla’s theme. In this movie, it’s played 3 times and each time, you can hear the differences. My favorite is the 2nd suite that played during the final confrontation. That was about as close to the original theme as it could get!

From the storytelling, to the sound design (the water sounds were so perfect and had my ears in a state of comfort 😱), to the color grading which was so crisp and colorful, to the beautiful cinematography respecting Godzilla monstrous scale, and that awesome atomic blast! Not to mention the greatly orchestrated music! The acting is the best part! Every character is so well done by those who had the fantastic opportunity to portray them 🔥 this was definitely an awesome film to watch and admire in many ways

Yamazaki is no Godzilla rookie. He first directed a comedy/drama, Always: Sunset on Third Street series, the second of which he incorporated a CGI Godzilla, during a daydream sequence in which the daikaiju destroys Tokyo in a most epic way. You can totally see how Yamasaki’s experience would lead him to direct Minus One so perfectly , in that despite such a short sequence, he was able to deliver a great depth of character and heart. Yamasaki also directed the film aspects of Godzilla: the Ride, for the Seibu-en amusement park.
The star of Always: Sunset on Third Street 1-3, Hidetaka Yoshioka, plays the ex-navy weapons engineer Kenji Noda. It was awesome seeing him in that role.

Honestly. I wonder how it'd be like if it wasn't released at the same year as Barbenheimer. Not to say that both films didn't deserve its flowers, but given the hype of Oppenheimer and Barbie, I think it'd have been difficult to hold G-1's potential (even though it's really, really excellent, one heck of a movie) up. And the darned movie wasn't even released in many Asian countries despite many people *wanting* to watch (no wonder G-1 is now one of the most pirated films now). I think it's bad timing and also lack of proper promotion. I think they simply didn't expect G-1 to be this huge of a success.

Prior to the Bikini Atoll bomb test irradiating Godzilla, the 20mm might actually have harmed him. The radiation gave him the regeneration and the massive growth spurt and the heat ray. He had none of that on Odo island. So it is possible he could have maybe at least chased it off with the plane's gun. But for real, I have never been so glad of a happy ending. If you didn't make it to the end of the video - The 'MINUS ONE' refers to Godzilla resetting the rebuilding effort, post WW2 (They were at war since 1931, in China); Japan had been set back to ZERO, with all the people killed during the wars, the horrors commited in China by their government; their cities in rubble; Hiroshima and Nagasaki gave EVERYONE in Japan PTSD. Trust in the government, and support from the government was gone. Then, Godzilla shows up while they were rebuilding. The attack on Ginza pushed Japan even further behind, all the way back to 'MINUS ONE.'
The cultural perspective on the fictional monster Godzilla is fascinating. To America, Godzilla is a spectacle and a 'Hero of the People' in the new Monsterverse movies. Then this film comes out, reminding us all what Godzilla represents: terror and destruction incarnate.
