Stalin wanted a buffer zone in Central Europe under his jurisdiction.
The West wanted it on their own.
The peaceful times were a result of cold war and its all heated.
After USSR fell, neither of the sides trusted Ukraine to be in hold of nukes, as both parties knew Ukraine were historically a nazi state, thats why they came up with the Budapest Memorandum.
It's a shame there is no similar memorandum for the ex soviet satellite states - I'm pretty sure both have been infiltrated and scanned thoroughly by each sides to establish there are no nazis there.
There however are nazi supporters still alive in the European Union and have infiltrated both parties in the US.
Better there not be any in Russia, right?

The EU has never experienced anything like Trump's 1st presidency and the 2020 elections. We have not yet reached that point where a majority starts questioning what they are being told. A majority of Americans now distrust their own media, in Europe the majority still believe their own media.

"Most of EU citizens admire Putin." I doubt that very much...Any public polling on that ?? My evidence is below----
"A 2023 poll by Pew Research Center in 24 countries around the world showed that 87% of respondents felt distrustful of Putin, with only 11% feeling confident in Putin. 82% of respondents have negative views of Russia." (cont.)
"Here are key takeaways about global views of Russia and Putin in the 35 countries we surveyed:"
"Opinions of Russia are broadly negative, with majorities in more than half of the surveyed countries holding an unfavorable view.
Confidence in Putin remains low across the surveyed countries, though relatively large shares in the Asia-Pacific region and sub-Saharan Africa have confidence in him."
"In some places, views of Russia and Putin have warmed slightly since reaching historic lows in 2022 amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine."
SO RUSSIA IS VIEWED NEGATIVELY IN THE WEST ALTHOUGH NOT AS MUCH AS IN 2022,,,,& LINKED TO THAT IS LOW CONFIDENCE IN PUTIN...

The silence is essentially designed to set up the Russian response as another "completely unprovoked" Russian attack and have it be more of a surprise to the public which will then generate support for their own actions afterwards. Political power has never been in the business of "informing the public", to believe that is to fall for the marketing. It is in the business of molding and shaping public opinion to support its own intentions and making the public believe that it's what the public wants.

By violation of the Nuremberg laws I mean the same kind of crimes for which people were hanged in Nuremberg. And Nuremberg means Nuremberg and Tokyo. So first of all you’ve got to think back as to what people were hanged for at Nuremberg and Tokyo. And once you think back, the question doesn’t even require a moment’s waste of time. For example, one general at the Tokyo trials, which were the worst, General Yamashita, was hangd on the grounds that troops in the Philippines, which were technically under his command (though it was so late in the war that he had no contact with them - it was the very end of the war and there were some troops running around the Philippines who he had no contact with), had carried out atrocities, so he was hanged. It is becoming increasingly obvious that this is now a U.S./NATO-Russia war, Noam Chomsky argues in the exclusive interview for Truthout that follows, excoriating the idea that, in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, there needs to be a stronger NATO rather than a negotiated settlement to the conflict. “Those calling for a stronger NATO might want to think about what NATO is doing right now, and also about how NATO depicts itself,” Chomsky says, warning of “the growing threat of steps up the escalation ladder to nuclear war.”
Noam Chomsky: We can usefully begin by asking what is not on the NATO/U.S. agenda. The answer to that is easy: efforts to bring the horrors to an end before they become much worse. “Much worse” begins with the increasing devastation of Ukraine, awful enough, even though nowhere near the scale of the U.S.-U.K. invasion of Iraq or, of course, the U.S. destruction of Indochina, in a class by itself in the post-WWII era. That does not come close to exhausting the highly relevant list. To take a few minor examples, as of February 2023, the UN estimates civilian deaths in Ukraine at about 7,000. That’s surely a severe underestimate. If we triple it, we reach the probable death toll of the U.S.-backed Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982. If we multiply it by 30, we reach the toll of Ronald Reagan’s slaughter in Central America, one of Washington’s minor escapades. And so it continues.

War Crimes - "Also, bear in mind, people ought to be pretty critical about the Nuremberg principles. I don’t mean to suggest they’re some kind of model of probity or anything. For one thing, they were ex post facto. These were determined to be crimes by the victors after they had won. Now, that already raises questions. In the case of the American presidents, they weren’t ex post facto. Furthermore, you have to ask yourself what was called a “war crime”? How did they decide what was a war crime at Nuremberg and Tokyo? And the answer is pretty simple. and not very pleasant. There was a criterion. Kind of like an operational criterion. If the enemy had done it and couldn’t show that we had done it, then it was a war crime. So like bombing of urban concentrations was not considered a war crime because we had done more of it than the Germans and the Japanese. So that wasn’t a war crime. You want to turn Tokyo into rubble? So much rubble you can’t even drop an atom bomb there because nobody will see anything if you do, which is the real reason they didn’t bomb Tokyo. That’s not a war crime because we did it. Bombing Dresden is not a war crime. We did it. German Admiral Gernetz - when he was brought to trial (he was a submarine commander or something) for sinking merchant vessels or whatever he did - he called as a defense witness American Admiral Nimitz who testified that the U.S. had done pretty much the same thing, so he was off, he didn’t get tried. And in fact if you run through the whole record, it turns out a war crime is any war crime that you can condemn them for but they can’t condemn us for." - Noam Chomsky

She stresses that some woke up from Western propaganda to feel “absolute panic” following Moscow's Oreshnik strike on Ukraine (2nd). - Intel Republic

Tell me, is Russian Foreign Minister Zakharova aware that the Central Bank of Russia had to suspend trading on the ruble until January due to its collapse today? If trading doesn’t resume or the currency continues to plummet, the ruble will collapse, and the Russian economy won’t be far behind. At that point, the Oreshnik won’t matter.

Mercouris' faith in Trump's desire for de-escalation with Russia is wearing thin with me. At some point, you have to consider Trump's actual picks, the latest of which is Keith Kellogg. Mercouris has commented very little on them. At best, it seems Trump might be looking to bully Russia by non-military means, as with Iran. But there is no chance of any such policy working.

Alex M. will pull at any straw in a foreign land hoping it will be favorable to Russia, that's why his analysis is often very wrong (see his French election coverage this past summer where he had no understanding about how FR politics worked) .. Often he knows very little about the countries he talks about because his main standard is: "How does this effect Russia's War in Ukraine" .... Guess What: The world doesn't run based on that standard Alex !!

The problem with a Russian attack on Nato territory is that most people in the west don’t seem to understand that western operators are directly attacking Russia. So to the public it will seem like Russia struck first. Anders Puck Nielsen recently did a video and he seemed clueless as to why the Russians treated these ATACMS strikes differently.

"don’t seem to understand that western operators are directly attacking Russia." OH really that's the Russian propaganda story, in reality the Ukrainians pick the targets (often the same targets their made in Ukraine drones attack) and use launch vehicles (HIMARS) that they have been using in a war for the last two years. There is no one in the world that has more experience using HIMARS in a war than Ukrainian artillery men...

This is not being downplayed in the UK media. I was speaking with a friend yesterday who only gets his news from the TV. He was very concerned about the escalation to world war III and was fully aware of the missile strikes by Russia.

Yes but they did not cover the follow up long range attack with Atacms into Russian territory. Thats propaganda because Brits are not being fully informed that the US and its allies are escalating the crisis

This time around, the Trump transistion team will not use technology or buidings provided by the General Services Administration. The GSA said it provides IT services that facilitate "secure connectivity and collaboration" between transition teams and the federal government... The Trump team press release states that it "already has existing security and information protections built in, which means we will not require additional government and bureaucratic oversight."
    Thanks, but no thanks! 😂🤣

I'm puzzled why Russia has left the Yuzmash factory unscathed up to now. They've known all along where Ukraine was building weapons to chuck at them. Why wasn't it destroyed in 2022?

There were several attacks by Х-101 and Iskander missiles. But they cannot damage the underground workshops that were built during the Soviet era. Oreshnik can.

    • @oddizzee
      @oddizzee Час назад +2

The kh cruise missiles and khinzal was used to soften the target whilst the oreshnik penetrated into the underground facilities presumably destroying the lower levels.

The missile recently used in question is not very accurate...Could have missed hitting anything critical. All these vatnik stories of massive damage and dead folks at some Ukrainian war factory have no real confirmation.... in fact they are similar to rumors we have heard before put out by pro-Russia folks that turn out to be unfounded... LIKE: "100 dead NATO Officers in a deep bunker hit by a hyper-sonic missile": (from 2023)

Those actions can be summarized in one word "FEAR"
I can't see the logic behind those actions.
Why don't they come together and solve their differences?
They behave like someone in the middle of the ocean with a life jacket on but still fearful of drowning.
There's still time to find peace.
Thank God the side has not escalated further besides being pushed to do that.

I think they want and invite nuclear exchange and believe they will survive in their underground facilities along with 2-300 concubines a piece, and without being killed by their armed guards, some of whom may lose friends and relatives above ground.
