"If the Nuremberg laws were applied, then every post-war American president would have been hangd. By violation of the Nuremberg laws I mean the same kind of crimes for which people were hanged in Nuremberg. And Nuremberg means Nuremberg and Tokyo. So first of all you’ve got to think back as to what people were hanged for at Nuremberg and Tokyo. And once you think back, the question doesn’t even require a moment’s waste of time. For example, one general at the Tokyo trials, which were the worst, General Yamashita, was hangd on the grounds that troops in the Philippines, which were technically under his command (though it was so late in the war that he had no contact with them - it was the very end of the war and there were some troops running around the Philippines who he had no contact with), had carried out atrocities, so he was hanged. We must try hard to preserve our inner goodness as human beings, "Oh how we all need the Lord" Thought I'd just say it before it's too late.
Some people have internal mechanisms that are completely messed up and will behave completely irrationally and with no kindness whatsoever, and generally to fulfill some base emotional demands.

@michaelkatz275 Agreed. However their cost wont hit any private taxpayer. Nor is the price inflated to ridiculess proportions way over the real sum. It comes directly from oil & gas revenues payed by western buyers. All in all everything around this war is a grand scale rip off. Western workers left with the tab. And one oligarq or another gaining fat on poor peoples exepences. War is a racket.
Cost is not a big factor in a post-modern war of great intensity where all types of high performance equipment is expensive and its expected that these resources will be expended.
It is becoming increasingly obvious that this is now a U.S./NATO-Russia war, Noam Chomsky argues in the exclusive interview for Truthout that follows, excoriating the idea that, in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, there needs to be a stronger NATO rather than a negotiated settlement to the conflict. “Those calling for a stronger NATO might want to think about what NATO is doing right now, and also about how NATO depicts itself,” Chomsky says, warning of “the growing threat of steps up the escalation ladder to nuclear war.” Noam Chomsky: We can usefully begin by asking what is not on the NATO/U.S. agenda. The answer to that is easy: efforts to bring the horrors to an end before they become much worse. “Much worse” begins with the increasing devastation of Ukraine, awful enough, even though nowhere near the scale of the U.S.-U.K. invasion of Iraq or, of course, the U.S. destruction of Indochina, in a class by itself in the post-WWII era. That does not come close to exhausting the highly relevant list. To take a few minor examples, as of February 2023, the UN estimates civilian deaths in Ukraine at about 7,000. That’s surely a severe underestimate. If we triple it, we reach the probable death toll of the U.S.-backed Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982. If we multiply it by 30, we reach the toll of Ronald Reagan’s slaughter in Central America, one of Washington’s minor escapades. And so it continues.
Nobody who is somewhat rational in the West cares about Chomsky's excuses for Russia and Putin....OR his idiotic comparisons to other wars....Putin made this war... Putin wanted this colonial war...there was no "American plot" behind Putin's War in Ukraine.. Russian Imperialism has a long brutal pedigree going back 350+ years; much longer than the USA has been a country .. . so none of Chomsky's anti-West/anti-USA tropes & ravings from his past work here anymore. He is just an over-the-hill loony Leftist on his last paper mache crusade...
All Trump has to do is say that unless Ukraine stops the escalation of firing missiles into Russia, he will cut off ALL support to Ukraine once he takes over as President. He has a mandate to stop the war, not continue it. He would not be interfering with the current administration, just saying what his actions would be once he takes over. The current administration can still continue to escalate, he's not stopping that. Just saying what he would do depending on the situation once the current administration's term expires.
Looks like my commentary about the deepening ill conceived actions of some of the actors is being blocked. They can’t stand scrutiny it seems. Sure feel sorry for people who have to suffer the consequences arising from the actions of such leaders.
War Crimes - "Also, bear in mind, people ought to be pretty critical about the Nuremberg principles. I don’t mean to suggest they’re some kind of model of probity or anything. For one thing, they were ex post facto. These were determined to be crimes by the victors after they had won. Now, that already raises questions. In the case of the American presidents, they weren’t ex post facto. Furthermore, you have to ask yourself what was called a “war crime”? How did they decide what was a war crime at Nuremberg and Tokyo? And the answer is pretty simple. and not very pleasant. There was a criterion. Kind of like an operational criterion. If the enemy had done it and couldn’t show that we had done it, then it was a war crime. So like bombing of urban concentrations was not considered a war crime because we had done more of it than the Germans and the Japanese. So that wasn’t a war crime. You want to turn Tokyo into rubble? So much rubble you can’t even drop an atom bomb there because nobody will see anything if you do, which is the real reason they didn’t bomb Tokyo. That’s not a war crime because we did it. Bombing Dresden is not a war crime. We did it. German Admiral Gernetz - when he was brought to trial (he was a submarine commander or something) for sinking merchant vessels or whatever he did - he called as a defense witness American Admiral Nimitz who testified that the U.S. had done pretty much the same thing, so he was off, he didn’t get tried. And in fact if you run through the whole record, it turns out a war crime is any war crime that you can condemn them for but they can’t condemn us for." - Noam Chomsky
Regarding European leaders keeping their publics in the dark, it fits the theory of Authoritarian Liberalism, as described by Michael A. Wilkinson, quite well. Mercouris' faith in Trump's desire for de-escalation with Russia is wearing thin with me. At some point, you have to consider Trump's actual picks, the latest of which is Keith Kellogg. Rumors of the u.s. potentially building a military base in Ukraine have been floating around. Trump may use that for negotiation. Either *do this* or we'll put a base there
The problem with a Russian attack on Nato territory is that most people in the west don’t seem to understand that western operators are directly attacking Russia. So to the public it will seem like Russia struck first. Anders Puck Nielsen recently did a video and he seemed clueless as to why the Russians treated these ATACMS strikes differently.
"don’t seem to understand that western operators are directly attacking Russia." OH really that's the Russian propaganda story, in reality the Ukrainians pick the targets (often the same targets their made in Ukraine drones attack) and use launch vehicles (HIMARS) that they have been using in a war for the last two years. There is no one in the world that has more experience using HIMARS in a war than Ukrainian artillery men...
This is not being downplayed in the UK media. I was speaking with a friend yesterday who only gets his news from the TV. He was very concerned about the escalation to world war III and was fully aware of the missile strikes by Russia.
Yes but they did not cover the follow up long range attack with Atacms into Russian territory. Thats propaganda because Brits are not being fully informed that the US and its allies are escalating the crisis

I'm puzzled why Russia has left the Yuzmash factory unscathed up to now. They've known all along where Ukraine was building weapons to chuck at them. Why wasn't it destroyed in 2022?
There were several attacks by Х-101 and Iskander missiles. But they cannot damage the underground workshops that were built during the Soviet era. Oreshnik can.
The kh cruise missiles and khinzal was used to soften the target whilst the oreshnik penetrated into the underground facilities presumably destroying the lower levels.
The missile recently used in question is not very accurate...Could have missed hitting anything critical. All these vatnik stories of massive damage and dead folks at some Ukrainian war factory have no real confirmation.... in fact they are similar to rumors we have heard before put out by pro-Russia folks that turn out to be unfounded... LIKE: "100 dead NATO Officers in a deep bunker hit by a hyper-sonic missile": (from 2023)
Those actions can be summarized in one word "FEAR" I can't see the logic behind those actions. Why don't they come together and solve their differences? They behave like someone in the middle of the ocean with a life jacket on but still fearful of drowning. There's still time to find peace. Thank God the side has not escalated further besides being pushed to do that.

“Those calling for a stronger NATO might want to think about what NATO is doing right now, and also about how NATO depicts itself,” Chomsky says, warning of “the growing threat of steps up the escalation ladder to nuclear war.”
Noam Chomsky: We can usefully begin by asking what is not on the NATO/U.S.
