Erewhon cracks me up. Pretty much all the food looks decent but not extremely exceptional, similar to what you'd get at any nice grocery store. You can very much get much better value for your money from other places, including actual high end restaurants. The thing is Erewhon is betting on their regulars believing that more money equals better quality, and everyone else going once for the novelty. Either way they're making *bank* with mid food.
Great observation. This kind of reminds me of Hans Christian Anderson's tale of the emperor's new clothes. The store is the equivalent of the con men promoting their "magnificent" yet invisible clothes, and it's gullible, status-seeking patrons are the emperor.
Erewhon customers are willing to pay a premium to have the flavor efficiently removed from their food. It's a highly satisfying form of self flagulation. The poors wouldn't understand.😂

Next time you’re in Manila, try One World Deli and Joel’s place. They are grocery store/deli with tables where you can buy stuff and have them cook it.

I live down the street from Erewhon in Venice CA. It’s always busy and I only go there once a month because the food is good but it’s just so damn expensive. Never tried the smoothie and I’m not going to. 20 bucks is a whole meal not worth it for a drink.
