Randomly Entertaining yeah and until i think the 19th century Blacksmiths made more than nails and horseshoes; how far the noble profession has fallen if that is all its remembered for.
The only way to make a dagger in the classic Skyrim way; Heat up the forge, then take out the red hot metal beam, hold it by the red hot end, dunk the cold end into water, take it back out, then hammer it in the place your hand is. It takes a professional to master this technique, but it pays off in the end.
Don't forget to make sure your foot is pushing down on the grindstone pedal as it's going up so your foot goes through it or it won't sharpen properly!!

Just to clarify: The reason why I didn't use real iron for the dagger but steel is because iron is inferior for cutting, it can't be hardend. As for the title I'm simply emphasizing that I'm in fact making a real life version of an in-game weapon. No need to further comment that I'm not making it out of iron. I get the point.
Amazing work!! We can understand the inferiority of iron, that's fair. But I think that's what gives the iron dagger it's character; iron, a humble and lowly metal in comparison to steel. Either way, fantastic job!!
Also worth noting, iron is kind of a pain to get ahold of. Hundreds of suppliers for steel of all kinds, but actual iron, your only real chance short of buying in industrial quantities that I've found is salvaging cast and wrought iron, and most of those pieces would just be a shame to break down. Not to mention, a proper foundry to reuse that material requires MUCH higher refractory temperatures, and that's not cheap.
I know right? You'd think people would appreciate how much time and effort it took to think it up. Whoever made it must have spent a whole 30 seconds on that original and thought provoking concept.

Zoltar the Silent Better? No, not necessarily. Our mass-production is far greater, but the best knives are even today made pretty much exclusively by hand. There's swords from the 14'th century that can be brought onto a battlefield right now and perform just fine. This legend of a man however is clearly very skilled at the craft though, equal to what I imagine a Renaissance or Medieval blacksmith would be.
I always thought the in-game item was so overbuilt for such a cheap and low-quality tool, and this video perfectly illustrates why. I wasn’t counting the minutes exactly, but it seems like you spent more than half the time making the hilt. If this was really a low-cost, low-effort item for those who can’t afford or don’t need something better, you could have just made it with a wider tang wrapped in leather for comfort. Instead it has basically a sword hilt, and fancy grinding patterns on the blade. For all the effort that takes, it might as well be made of good steel.
By the order of the Jarl, stop right there! You committed a crime against Skyrim and her people, say you in your defense? >you caught me. I’ll pay my bounty (1000 gold) >I submit take me to jail >I rather die then go to prison!

Superb video and dagger. You made the most basic weapon in the game look amazing in real life, good job. If I can make a suggestion editing wise, try to keep consistent lighting, especially when you quickly cut between shots. Also, when you cut with a chisel try not to cut all the way through on the anvil face- you'll either dull your chisel or dent the anvil.
I think it might be the camera auto-adjusting the exposure or white-balance or whatever that's causing the changes where you bring a glowing thing into shot and it suddenly turns down the lights on everything else; maybe have a play around with that? Whatever, it's a great piece of work, and you should be proud! Dwarven helmet next?
Thanks mate! I can't really meddle with the exposure and neither do I want too. Filming already takes a lot of time on it's own and having to manually make sure the lighting is good would simply take too much time.
Obviously it is you who knows nothing! If you didn't know it, 1 stick and two iron ingots make a sword, so clearly a handful of leather straps and an iron ingot make an iron dagger. It's basic maths, yeesh. And if you're not making your heavy-duty working/cleaving blades out of 420 stainless, you're doing it wrong obviously. /s
Anyone else made millions of these while leveling smithing? And turned the left leather stripes to helmets of course -The levelup sound at the end was gold

Whatever, it's a great piece of work, and you should be proud! Dwarven helmet next?
Thanks mate! I can't really meddle with the exposure and neither do I want too. Filming already takes a lot of time on it's own and having to manually make sure the lighting is good would simply take too much time.
That's fine; keep doing what you enjoy doing :)
Once I beat the game using only iron daggers and a longbow
Awesome! A work of art! Love the humor too at the end with the iron and leather strips!
But you didn't use leather strips
Watch the end
He did he smith's it just like in skyrim he put leather straps on a iron ingot and started hitting it until It trabsformed into a iron d agger
You fricken hecker
Takes a bit longer than in the game, doesn't it?
Actually you can eat dozens of apples in one second
Indeed
how long you think it took him
i'd say about 5 to 10 hours
The Gods gave you two hands and you use them both for your weapon. I can respect that
Who in the right mind at Bethesda tought that an dagger only needs an ingot + 1 leather strip? XD
Some game designer who knows nothing about knives.
/s
Well Bethesda also thought that horses can walk up 58 degree angles
They also thought that Paint Brushes defied gravity.
_ Wayfinder _ That's Oblivion not Skyrim
Lowkey badass asmr
Concerning visual/look, the set of iron weapons are the ones I like the most in Skyrim. Fine work.
This guy is so fast he finished the blade in 17 minutes! :D
Anyone else remember making like 3000 of these to up your smithing just so you can craft daedra armour?
Mhm.
Lol I just got it in the university
I simply played and didn’t grind.. but I made like 4 different gear sets for every type of metal..
Holy shit at 9:46 and onward on that scene, it felt like my ears were poked rapidly
*Smithing 100*
when the flash makes a knife
It's so satisfying when the hammering noise gets pitched up
So you’re smithing skill is at least 15
I'd say it's smithing skills at 999,999
no i think it is about 24 at least most would be about 30-40 maybe
to make an iron dagger is 15
your*
This work for me has the same score as the original game, a 10/10
I admire the amount of hand machining you do.
Can u make a video About ur forge .i want to see ur forge because i just started blacksmith and Making knifes
TankTV yeah I've always been curious on how he get his coke burning. Leg powered blowers pack a lot more punch than hand cranked ones I guess?
TankTV There are tons of videos about DIY forges here on RUclips just check ‘em out man
Chris Qiao coke is harder to start than green coal so I start with coal and build up with coke
Anyone else made millions of these while leveling smithing?
And turned the left leather stripes to helmets of course
-The levelup sound at the end was gold
Nothing compared to the sheer amount of iron daggers you have to make to get smithing 100 amazing job btw
beautiful dagger getting that bevel center is difficult nice work
Surprised myself that I was able to do it! Thanks man!
9:38 LUV THE SOUND
About to fall asleep to the sound of this video. Happy Valentines Day.
Smithing skill increased to 25
