  • I enjoy listening to Al Anon speakers so much, and this tape is an excellent talk. Debra outlines her journey to coming in to the rooms of Al-Anon and most importantly, the process that she has applied to her life to incorporate a full commitment and reliance upon a Higher Power and how sanity CAN be restored! Filled with promise and honesty, this tape is great!
Al-Anon / Alateen, known as Al-Anon Family Groups, is an international "fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems." They "help families of alcoholics by practicing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic."

I was truly powerless of people places and things! I learned let go. I learned to let him be gone for 3 days... ME, I LEARNED I DID NOT HAVE TO PICK UP THE PHONE FOR THREE DAYS OR MORE... TRYING TO "FIX THINGS" - TRYING TO MAKE SURE "THEY" ARE NOT MAD AT ME - TRYING TO RELIEF MY PERSONAL PAIN AND SHAME. I don't know if those capped words apply or not to Alanon - I am too new. But, it is how I feel! I've been fighting the PHONE - Anxiety and Pain since Sunday! Today is Tuesday. LOL

Thank you for replying Ashley. All is good - now. Yes, I have heard of Coda - actually spent a year or so in that group (many... many... moons ago) before I decided to drink again. I'm 24 years sober in AA now, but the "emotional sobriety" (the lack of) is where I am at right now. So, LOL, I am working two programs AA and Al-Anon. I have a sponsor in both. As I listen to the Alanon speakers this is what I hear the most - Strong, Clear emotional sobriety. Going to meetings, having a sponsor and working the steps. It means so much to me that you reached out - thank you!!!! I will take your suggestion listen to some Coda talks here on RUclips.
