Omg I am from Lansing and you his on EVERY Chicago cultural aspect ever done. Now I live in Elgin- I live in a 150yr Brown stone. And guess what?? The tavern is on the left side of my house. The Baptist church is across the street. The Methodist church is to the street. The package store is behind my building. Welcome to Cook County !! (the dirtiest county in the Union) I love your talk. It is so soul-felt and honest. Thank you. ❤ Mcry k. Elgin Illinois.
Ellen L. passed away early this am due to a brain aneurysm. She was sharing her experience, strength and hope in Amarillo, Texas when she collapsed 3 minutes into her talk. She was a great example of working a program along with her husband. Southern California is sad today in the loss of this very special woman.
As a long-time member of both Al-Anon & ACA programs I hear Ellen's story and know the pain and disruption alcohol caused. When she talks recovery I listen - when she goes into some screaming, garbled Jerry Lewis impersonation to describe a feeling or past situation, she loses me. I appreciate humor and have laughed many times in a meeting but think about how this might sound to a terrified newcomer who hears that loud screaming comedy performance. We all need to hear the truth, experience and hope of those in the program, Ellen is who she is, and her share is Her's not mine. I listen and take what I need and leave the rest.
There are different styles of meetings that are more workshop oriented that u may find the recovery richness you seek.trust an alcoholic is by spiritual design.a new comer can NOT be beat out of the program by any person, word,or tone.
did cause it. can cure it. no higher power to throw the responsibility toward. its you alone that can change and you alone who is responsible for the change.
Theses experiences are so beautiful, moving and so helpful!!!
