Screw all the Ray bashers. He has a great tibre to his voice & so what about hitting the high notes. John Arch didn't go on long tours. The road is tough and probably 99.9% of you Ray bashers aren't touring musicians.
Through different eyes. My introduction to this band!!! I did not know the impact Ray Alder would have on my singing at the time until about 6 yrs. later. My biggest influence with my original band. I even came up with the name "Perfect Symmetry". Stupid, stalker, I know, but I don't care. During their tour with Savatage, my wife and I were leaving the show, I happened to turn around, and back by the bus Ray was taking some garbage off the bus, I yelled to him, he yelled back, we ran back, talked to him for about 15 minutes, priceless!!! Found out years later, (biggest influence, mind you) He's a year older than I am, and our birthday is August 20th. FUCKING AWESOME!!!
I dont know if its the sound through the recording devices that has it so off but I do know that the timing of the guys is slipping in and out with each other and Ray has suffered the wear of time on his voice. Still love fates warning.
Ray Alder too the band back several steps with his "style" of throwing his voice at full force, full volume and not trying to take a page out of FATES WARNING and use it to create a recognizable dynamic equal to and in sequence with the instruments like John Arch did. Ray was a screamer and moaner where John was known for using his voice to do things that accented but didnt compete with the other things going on. I alomst stopped listening to them after No Exit... That album was almost certainly meant for John and the way Ray sang songs like Silent Cries almost the exact way that John preforned the demo could have been a trailhead for Ray to take up the same basic role but with a different quality of tone.....he didnt. It was almost like Jim and the rest of the band were letting a 19 year old fan (which he was long before the Judas Priest fanboy takeover) come in and sing for a different band, that they were scrapping FW or something. It was Brand Suicide and they could have literally been to prgressive metal what Dream Theater is and has been since their "No Exit Death scene". Too bad. There are 3 times as many people coming to see the original (or close to original lineup) as there are coming to see Ray, Joey and Jim anymore.
The record company rushed them on No Exit. They had literally no time for transition. For the amount of time they got to record sucha huge proggy album, they didn't gtvnearly enough time that they needed...It's a great album that could've been even better with a little extra time...Perfect Symmetry is my fav Fates record. Didn't really care for Von Arch. In my opinion, he was the one over doing everything... So that's literally just where yr taste lies...I preferred Ray, at least until he lost it anyway. Remember reading an interview and him saying he just didn't see "a need" to sing high anymore. Dude yr vocal lines are all up there. You did it to yrslf. Stop lying n sayin it isn't needed, and just admit it's out of yr range anymore. Not like we're all gna all of a sudden hate you dude. I wrkd a few shows of there's n saw him smokin cigs anyway.. That's not how we take care of our vocal chords... Saw Tate do the same shit back in the day...
I don't see why the band keeps Ray as a singer. Are they deaf? They can't hear he cannot do it anymore? It only gets worse from here. Or does he have a long term contract they can't get out of?

Ivory???? Can't believe it!!! Thank you very much!!
Amazing
Addicted to Jim's guitar tones
Great song and great album great band.
Awsome man!
Some close looks at Jim's playing
Watch at 10.00 - 10.10 the smile between the drummer Bobby and Jim after making that perfect timing.

Time to get a younger, better looking singer who can actually sing the songs and hit the notes.
Fucking sweet!
Hrm. The riffing on the T.D.E. is somewhat smeared.. Damn.. One of my favourite riffs is gone!
Well, Ray has lost it. No surprise though, a range that high is next to impossible to maintain as you age. Geoff Tate same boat.
