    When I was talking about Taurus replacing firearms, I don't know if other people have to have them go through FFL's for replacement firearms, but in my state handguns must be registered, so a new serial numbered firearm has to have a new background check and all of that. Taurus knows this and won't send replacements directly to your home here.

      I believe that is federal law. If the manufacturer replaces a firearm you will have to go through the same process as a new firearm.

      I have a Heritage Arms Single Action 22. It is also made by Taurus. You can buy all the parts from them to repair just about anything at a low cost.
      I believe the warranty is only for a year. So their parts department is nice.

    Good test Sam. Should be reassuring for those that carry P365/Hellcat length barrels at least for this particular load. For me, defensive ammo rankings go as follows:
    1) Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P
    2) Federal 124gr +P/147gr
    3) the field

    That magazine will only get worse. I had a taurus millennium that had the same problem. Taurus refused to fix it and said my only Option was to send it back to them and they would send me a g2c nine millimeter. Not a great bargain for me.

    Nice test as always. I dearly love Gold Dot in almost every chambering. I am a 40 fan, carried my P229 for my whole career except the first year. I swore by it, and never had to swear at it. Nothing wrong with the 9mm, i have several, and my Kahr P9 was a frequent off duty choice. Nowadays i lean toward getting a Sig 365, and i like my P239 in 357, plus of course my SP-101, which was the second frequent off duty choice. Anyway, your tests are a good help for us all. I am surprised there was not more expansion with the MDF. I was working in a shop when Gold Dot came out in 1994, a year befoe i got into LE. Speer stated that the threshold velocity for expansion was in the low 600's in all loads. Just gors to show that lab tests can't fully replicate the real world.

    With Respect Sam, not sure where that cut off on .40 is! Everyone Should Check Out my 1st "MODERN MEAT TARGET" Test Hyper vs Regular 3.7" 9mm vs .40 3.6" 4 loads each remaking Paul Harrell's first ever Meat Target Vid that should also be watched. 3.6" Seems just fine for .40, and every 3.42" G27 test I have watched too! Maybe 3.4" is sweet Spot IDK just some thoughts. I've done a lot of testing so far. If I do anymore it will likely be PUNCH .38 vs .357 Defend & .40 vs .45 Punch and all my tests upcoming do Short and Long barrels! Also CBP used 3.66" P2000 in .40 and tons of LE agencies 27 was approved for Backup and Off Duty so those were thoroughly tested with various ammo.

    Thanks for the video. You show here a point that has been bothering me for years. I love 40 cal in concept. My big problem is i honestly believe any hollow point needs to have at a minimum of 1100 to 1150 feet per second to perform correctly. Too many 40 cal loads, like these gold dots, are rated just below that threshold and the ammo doesnt perform like it should. If this same load were running 200fps faster, it would probably be a near perfect solution. If i had the ability to reload, i would just buy the bullets and make them myself.

    Sam another awesome comparison. Im good with 9 in a micro. Thank you for validating that. I wonder if 115 grain would have preformed better bcuz of a slight increase in velocity. It didn't seem to open up enough in the "real world" test. Just my thoughts. What do you think?

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  7 месяцев назад +1

      Generally 9mm in 115 gr is always standard pressure and 124 gr is +P more often than not. And comparing a 9mm 115 gr to a 9mm+P 124 gr, both travel at about the same velocity and both seem to expand at the same rate.

      @mikewithers299 7 месяцев назад

      @@GunSam that's good to know. I like the 115's for micros only so they don't snap as much, but I have run 124's and 147's out of it before. Love your exhaustive testing and always come here for the results.

    S&W M&P (1.0) used to make a compact .40 S&W with 3.6" barrel. They are on the used market called M&P40C, with double-stack mag.
    The M&P2.0 only offers the 2nd gen "compact" which is 4-inch barrel, unless you go with a .40 Shield single-stack. I'm guessing a gen1 40C would be far more reliable than the Taurus. Otherwise, a G27 Gen5 would work fine.

    I am not a 40 S&W fan, I have always been a 45 ACP or 10mm fan. I've only come to accept 9mm performance as acceptable in the last decade.
    And when it comes to 40 short & weak for FBI, no thank you. I want the cartridge the FBI was to much of a wuss to handle on my hip.👍
    That being said, I am NOT familiar with either of these firearms, but I have had a similar magazine issue with the Baretta 92.
    Being an "ambidextrous pistol", my strong hand trigger finger pad, rested on the left handed mag release and I dropped the magazines during the "practical pistol course", so I wound up carrying the Colt 1911 for my 8 years active duty in the USCG.
    As I recall, Taurus started life off as a Baretta 92 clone maker, perhaps the ambidextrous controls followed platforms...🤷‍♂🤷‍♂🤷‍♂
