- We hit the streets of London with our charming presenter all the way from Tokyo, Katsuya Hasegawa. We asked Japanese tourists and students what they think about London, British food, fashion, people. We wanted to know everything! and we heard some really interesting sometimes surprising responses.
A big shout out to Reina Sandifer, who worked tirelessly to interpret the interviews.
...enjoy
Seeing as I was raised in Wigan I find it alarming and confusing that someone doesn’t like pie.
Dragged up kicking and screaming in Preston Lancs. How could we ever have survived witbout the pie shop? You bring your own jug for gravy and carry it home very carefully and on fridays you get butter pies (no meat, just potatoes). Nostalgia, its not what it used to be.
It's entirely possible they just had a shit pie from a wetherspoons or something.
Sam Hall
Don’t tell the northerners Wetherspoons is shit! They’ll have a nosebleed! It’s cheap, that’s all that matters for them! Doesn’t matter that the beer is often terrible, the food is dire and all the crackheads hang out there, because on a Thursday it’s £2 for a pint of Carling!
@@lloroshastar6347 @nick260682 Worse. As they are in London, they probably fell for the old Cockney 'Pie, mash and liquor' scam - the scam being that it's sold as being 'food'.
Why the Advertising Standards Authority hasn't already clamped down on this is a national scandal - so something must be done before it's becomes an international issue and the World Health Organization gets involved.
@@nick260682 tbh the only reason most of us go to Wetherspoons is for the cheap drink don't think i know anyone who eats there since there is better restaurants within walking distance
It’s funny, the girl mentioned the portions are too big. I saw a video with Americans where they were complaining they were too small.
I guess that explains why Japanese are slim, English are often a bit chubby, and Americans are fatty boombooms.
😂😂😂
Fatty Boom Booms 😂😂😂
is that an ali g reference 😂😂🤣

Carl Malcom reference actually.

There is an annual festival in London called Hyper Japan which is about Japanese culture. Thousands of people attend it. Japanese culture is quite popular in London. Of course, there are festivals in London for every major culture, it is a very international city!
I would love to attend the Hyper Japan event but covid is ruining things. I have booked birthday flights to Tokyo for later this year, I have wanted to visit Japan for many years but now it seems covid might fuck those plans up too :(
Anyone from Japan is welcome to the Uk
Because everyone from Japan is an absolute angel
Islander bros
I'd completely love for Godzilla to visit London sometime..

@@marcomarkproductions Just the ladys lol.
As a Brit who lived in America I can honestly say I said the same things about their American portion sizes and clothes sizes.
A Japanese family of 4 could easily live in a pair of American Levi jeans.
A very useful video for allowing Japanese learners in Japan to learn more about London. Thank you!
great vid really interesting getting a different perspective, their excitement is what i felt when I went to Japan :)
as a brit anyone and everyone is more than welcome to the UK, especially people from japan
As a Londoner I loved this video, and thought the observations people made were spot on, but not liking pie?... what on Earth did they try? lol.
Spooky Dreamer my sentiments exactly!
In my opinion : Pies tend to be "heavy" fare for people who are used to Japanese/Asian food. The pie may be delicious taste, but the heaviness may make it not so good.
You know what they tried; the infamous Cockney 'pie, mash and liquor'.. disgusting stuff, I wouldn't feed it to my dog.
Cream pie ;)
Nice video. I went to Japan last year for 2 weeks. (I got to know at least 3 Japanese friends here in London, one of them invited me to Japan) It was a whole new experience. I can understand from Japanese people's perspective. I want to return to Japan. It was amazing experience and people were very respectful.
I lived in in Japan for 2 years (1966-8). Loved it.
Polite people. I remember having an interesting conversation with a young man who apologized for leaving to protest the Vietnam War at the American Embassy.
Ralph Celentano: Between 1937 and 1945, millions of people didn't think the Japanese particularly polite.
*apologiSed

Need to come out of London, and wonder around. Did you know that most people in my City have never been to London, and we are only 74 miles away
Two of my all time favourite countries, the UK and Japan.
Where do you live?
@@adolflenin4973 India.
this is especially amusing, considering the exchange of peoples from two island empires that bookend Eurasia.
I really enjoyed your video. We see lots of UK/US comparison so the UK/Japan was a refreshing change. Thanks.
I am English and found this very interesting.
How did you find all those Japanese people in London? Like someone else said, they're something of a rarity these days.
Back in the 20th century nearly all E Asian tourists in London seemed to be Japanese. But nowadays they're far more likely to be speaking Mandarin Chinese.
(You never heard Mandarin Chinese on to the streets back in the day. Only Cantonese and that was spoken by immigrants from Hong Kong...)
PS I'm glad they all seemed to like it here so much... despite the dodgy experiences with pie!
It's great seeing this view point ^_^
Great video! Thanks for doing this :)
So there ARE Japanese people in london 😲 Seriously though, they are a rarity here
Not really, I am one
Lots of everything, except cockneys. The arrogant classes disapprove.
There's a reasonably large Japanese community in the Finchley area of London. Most of them stay for a few years whilst they work in the city for their Japanese employers and then return home, but there are also some who reside here full time. They are extremely polite people and are no trouble whatsoever.
there’s quite a few koreans and japanese in birmingham tbh, mainly because of the facilities our uni offers to students 😂
Clearly never been 2 central or Westminster. LOADS AND LOADS of international students tryin to get that prestigious education and make their familys proud
Really liked the video, I have been to Japan several times and always found Japanese people to be polite, kind and very trustworthy, one of the things that does set us apart is that Japan is very clean and the UK is dirty, I like that fact that Japanese children from a very early age are taught to clean the classroom /school themselves and in the UK we have cleaners that do it, I think this difference sets our children up to be Undisciplined and think throwing rubbish onto the streets is acceptable.this is a great vid thank you for showing the good side of the UK
very interesting. Thank you for the up-load.
I am welsh but we never really see that many Japanese or Chinese here, be great to meet someone from a different continent
Well the only time I see Chinese, they always run a Chinese take out, fair enough tho, Asian women are beautiful 🇨🇳🇰🇷🇯🇵
I met some Japanese people in Chester, practically on the border with Wales.
🙏❤Hello❤Warm wishes on New Year to all of our wonderful and very special friend. ❤May you have a meaningful and successful year 2022 that brings you many joys and great big smiles! 😊

Construction of the present Saint Paul's Cathedral (3:15) commenced in the 17th century (1675), the work completed during the early part of the 18th Century. That's why there's a statue of Queen Anne outside the main entrance, in whose reign construction was all but complete. Been a cathedral here since the early 7th century, the first constructed on the remains of a Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Diana.
Sommatore Nero The original one dated back to the 14th century I think but that was destroyed by the Great Fire of London in 1666.
@@ragingblast732: As I said, the first cathedral dated to the 7th century. The mediaeval cathedral destroyed in 1666 was the third on the site.

I was born and raised in London and always had a fascination with Japan when i was growing up, mainly because i was into martial arts movies. By age 12 i wanted to be a ninja, still do and i'm 56 now. There are japanese communities in the UK, I believe in London they are in the Finchley area. They tend to keep a low profile and just get on with life.
Better than chinese i see
Enjoyed that
Great video 👍
You would find amuch warmer friendlier people in the north of England and Scotland, ive friends from London who will tell you its hard to chat to others if you dont know them
I'm sorry what? Japanese have been to the UK? That's rare
Edit: I've just realised that this channel has under 400 subs and this is a very well put together video which you would expect from a channel with 100,000 subs.
368,000 a year according to this video. Doesn’t sound too rare to me.
I've lived here my entire life lol
Japanese people in general are very insular similar to people from the US. Except on a very superficial level. They are very polite, quiet and we'll mannered generally which is nice. However cultural differences are vast and many. It makes it incredibly difficult for them to settle outside of Japan on a medium or long term basis.
Excellent. Well done.
The biggest difficulty for Japanese people in Europe is the eyebrow flash. Without it Europeans will ignore you. You need to raise your eyebrows, 'flash them' to tell them you want to communicate with the,
知りませんでした。

@@akinasukizakura It's slightly impolite to speak without asking permission with the eyebrow 'flash' . You flash. They flash back - you have permission to speak.
Japanese closed factories and left UK after BREXIT and threaten UK government for any harm from BREXIT while S Korea made free trade agreement with UK after BREXIT to aid UK. Japanese also stopped building UK nuclear power project after running over the fund limit and left after UK refused to pay more than what they agreed on contract. Japan did same thing with Turkish nuclear power project and stopped from construction when Turkish government refused to pay more than what they agreed on in contract. Now those projects left by Japanese will cost more due to starting over because they left garbage at the site. UK rail system built by Japan is also causing design problems but Japan is refusing to fix them like they did with Egypt during blocking Suez Canal which cost billions in damage but Japanese company which built problem ship refuse to pay compensation for Egypt and companies effected by blocking Suez canal. Japan is #2 China of Asia don't take care of their mistake and still drag war crimes committed during WW2.

Great video
I am sure there is much we can learn from Japan.
Thanks japan, i might not be able to speak japanese (which i’m sorry for, but then again. i’m english, the most lazy nationality in the world 😂) but i find your language, culture and food absolutely fascinating
Wrong. English are the best. The smartest nationality ever. I am Japanese.
To see the real britain/england avoid London it’s a separate country to the rest.
Could not agree more
London is better than the rest because we don't have stinking attitude .

why is it nearly impossible to find an edo-era build in japan? are they all removed/destroyed and replaced or are they needed to be rebuilt from earthquakes and tsunamis?
Atomic Bombs LOL
Interesting to see how they all have different views and experiences. I always found that Japanese tourists never talk to locals and don't really try and meet locals, they keep more to themselves. btw I think St. Pauls was built in the 16th century not 18th

Personally I think London is a bit overrated to what foreigners think of it as but parts of the uk like Devon are nice the streets are clean and there are nice sight seeing places
After 35 years in London I still love it .

Depends what you want out of your trip. If you want culture and history and architecture and music and theatre and atmosphere etc, then London is pretty much unbeatable in the world. It’s why it’s the most visited city on earth by tourists.
If you want green fields and nice little villages and beaches then Devon.
I took my Korean girlfriend to visit my parents in North Devon. Within half an hour of arriving, she was accused of stealing at a local shop lmao. Devon is lovely, but outside of Exeter people are wary of foreigners.
It's a bit rich for someone from Japan to complain about English food.
