You do not have to install the license plate bracket like that. You can literally just flip it over and install it so that it doesn't block. Don't know why they would show it this way, or at least mention it.

I put this bumper on my Jeep JL, simple turn the bracket upside down and the plate sits above the camera.

Were you able to also mount the license plate light in that position? I just bought my bumper set and didn't realize that it had this design *issue*

I have this on my Jeep, great sturdy bumper. Would highly recommend. Thing is a monster and is a straight forward install. One afternoon, basic hand tools, and a six pack of your favorite cold one will make for a great day.

After reading a few comments unnoticed a plethora of complaints about the license plate relocation. I just used the provided hardware and an angle grinder to change the location to the mimic the JK stock location. Took all of five minutes given the proper tools and know how.

I purchased that bumper for my 2018 jl unlimited sport s. Relocating the liscense plate is pretty easy. I bought a relocation bracket from LoD and hard mounted it to the passenger side after removing the chrome plate. I also got a stainless bracket with led lights for the liscense plate which got mounted between the tag and the bracket. It plugs right into the factory connector. The result was something that looks like the jk setup. It works great.

Installed this today. The licences plate is an easy fix and you can use your factory light from the bumper all you have to do is take one of the small Allen screws out of the bumper where the steal plate is. Then Drill the holes out a bit larger in the plate mount. Where their light would go. Then mount the OEM light to the bracket to that then flipping the plate mount tieing down the mount to the bumper run the OEM factory wire harness for your light to one of the factory back up sensor holes in which mine came with caps to fill in the hole since I didn't have sensors

I finally got around to attempt to wire up the lights for this bumper. I am going to have to find a different solution for lights as I am not confident in the quality of the lights and harness. The bumper its self is amazing along with the added tire carrier. 5 stars on the bumper its self.

Every other comment is about the backup camera. So is this one. I can't even imagine giving up that functionality simply for a new bumper. The customer pics on the website show that every buyer had to find their own way to mount their plate without losing the backup camera. It makes no sense to force customers to come up with their own solution for poor engineering from Smittybilt.

I really like the look and functionality of the bumper. I modified the license plate/light bracket and mounted it on the left end of the bumper. Smittybilt should work towards that as well. Reduces the amount of work to remove the spare tire.

I wish you would have explained how to route and wire the license plate light. It has to go through the tailgate since it swings open. This is an important step.

  • @DarkPony22

I have an issue with the wires that run from the battery to the rear led lights. The wires are not long enough. Plus I can’t figure out how to connect the rear license plate light without interfering with the door opening. The cable is not long enough either.

another rear JK bumper with the holes moved to use it on a JL no thanks till they make a bumper with a License plate holder on the bumper and a light for it mounted i guess i will stick with my plastic bumper or look at that MOPAR steel rear bumper. its only 50-100 more then this.

This video has fallen short, lots of great production value however the most important steps where not even mentioned! Hello what about the back up sensors? Re installing the back up sensors requires additional parts directly from Mopar, the plastic sensor bezels (are Not included with the bumper). I found out the hard way (halfway thru my install which I was unable to finish over labor day.) I purchased my bumper thru Quadratec and they failed to mention i needed these additional parts when i ordered the bumper. I recommend re installing the sensors before you mount the bumper. The hardest part of this install is disassembling the useless stock bumper aka (oversized license plate holder) to access the sensors. The bumper is awesome however you will need to customize your license plate holder if you want to keep your back up camera.

seems like the b/up camera is totally blocked not sure how that makes sense, also seems like it would be a ton of extra work to get the spare off if you needed it, maybe can live w/that but not loosing the cam egads seems if they left a spot for it in the bumper like jeep would be ok

700? You outta your mind?!, everyone say your bumper and armor is designed to take hits and protect the body. But if the bumper gets bent or dented it still need to be replaced. Im not spending 700 on just the rear when i get something cheaper elsewhere that i wont mind swapping out for less than 300, and it comes with more led lights

  • @abc-ey4ld

Doesn't seem like a good idea in general. You get the tow hooks/protection/good look in exchange for added weight, awkward license plate placement, license plate lightning, legality of license plate lights, and some rear bumpers (not this one) will expose the muffler too greatly (could be dangerous). It seems like your rear tire (like a 33 or 35) would act well for protection in rear, that stock hook is good enough to latch on too, and it's good to have less weight, and not have to deal with license plate mount, license plate lights, and legal codes of license plate lights.

  • @NYCBugkiller
    @NYCBugkiller 3 года назад

That was a lot of woman right there to put that tire on. You aren't going to find any 110lb 5 foot tall girls even attempting that. I struggled getting my 35 on mine.
