Cowabunga ! My brother and i started surfing in the early 60's . Turned out cool and we were really popular on Saturday nights . These are some awesome recordings . Thanks Much and Hang Ten Baby !
High School. Hawaii. Early 60's. The school had an official Surfing Day where everybody was given the day off to head to the beach. Makaha was the place for the surf vets, pros, and the wannabe's. This really fits stuff related to water I guess that's why it became so popular in the 60s and 70s, because surfing with this music or just swimming feels so fitting
That's because stereo was originally designed to emulate listening to a live performance so everything was mixed like you were sitting in the audience so horns would be on one side, guitar on the other or organ or what have you. Gotta remember this was before headphones were a common thing. If you were listening it was through a smaller component stereo with the speakers far apart, a stereo hifi console, or a mono am radio. In the early 60s most pioneer R&R bands were playing 3 chord songs with lyrics. Those that played Surf music were real guitar player
musicians.
More notes doesn’t equal better music.

One of my favorite modern day surf rock bands, “The Buttertones”, just disbanded and will be no more after some band members were accused of statutory rape and now Im here trying to find more surf rock to listen to and replace them because they were one of my favorites :(
I love how closely surf rock and western is to one another
Indeed! The Penetrators' cover (circa 2000) of Morricone's Guns Don't Argue (which my band, BroDaddy also covered) is a perfect example
