I realize this is from two years ago, but if you get it so that they're in time with each other but not quite synced you get a really cool Fugue thing.

BenC No, in my honest opinion, tuning doesn't define heaviness; it's the riff structure itself. Just look at Cattle Decapitation, they're only a half step below standard which is e flat.

+Jacob Nates hold the uptune one at 3 seconds and on the downtune, you wait until he finishes saying comparison and press play on the uptune, can be hard to do but once you do get it, its epic !!!

Speaking from a vocalist POV, the higher version made me want to do more clean vocals, but this down tuned version made me wanna do more Lamb of God kinda vocals.
They both sound heavy, but in different ways.
You NEED to take this guitar track and add it over the up tuned version. I need this in my life.
The tone it is down tuned to sounds like Amon Amarth which is possibly my favorite Viking metal band. Cool vid!

Wikipedia says Swedish Melodic Death Metal
which is all to say - it doesn't flippin matter, really
For me the Downtuned Version sounds like In Flames a lot
NorseIndi Amon Amarth is considered by critics as a Viking Metal band because of their lyrics but Johan Hegg mentioned in an interview that he says Amon Amarth is just a Melodic Death Metal band. But I do agree with you. I thought Amon Amarth was Viking Metal too.
Up tuned sounded like a Pokemon battle theme, this one was an awesome thrash piece! Great music dude!

Considering it's literally a down tuned version of a up tuned thrashy metal piece, I think we can see this might be an exception to the rule.
What's better still is listening to both versions of the song overlayed on top of one another. Adds some extra depth to both.

Uptune version the notes stood out way more and had more character. But this one is Brutal! I love both!

+xGshikamaru how does having a tab vs learning it by watching the video have anything to do with a metronome? if you read a tab, you're probably learning note by note, same as watching a video (slowed down if needed), playing to a metronome wouldn't matter until you learn the song...
nonsense, do you read a book letter by letter? If you know how to read tabs it’s that much faster to learn as it is to read a book rather than listen to it.

Up-tuned sounded way better, in my opinion. It stood out a lot more in today's down-tuning craze, and hearing a note that's actually the note it's supposed to be and nothing more is very refreshing.

+DarthUno This is my personal opinion on the whole uptune vrs downtune debate here. My two bits are simple. In my opinion he used a far better guitar in the uptune video than in the down tune video. In my opinion that makes a huge difference.
