I enjoy seeing the older dude working .He is sharp and skilled.A lot of good knowledge will leave when our seniors leave this earth.(Makes me miss my Dad).
Just great watching this such great craftmanship , good to see how much work went into building these old veterans of the road, could not get this off a production line.
Message to anyone fortunate to still learn from someone in their 80's or 90's, listen and watch; pay attention. I didn't pay much attention 40 to 50 years ago when my grand dads (born1901 and 1904) could've taught me so much. My dad, born in 1928 tried to teach me; all I wanted to do as a child or teenager was hold a wrench or flash light (torch) steady so I wouldn't get yelled at as I daydreamed. Once I was ready to learn mechanics from my father, I was 430 miles off. When I moved closer to Dad I was too busy to visit very often; then he got dementia. Knowledge from old guys like the elderly man in this video is invaluable; sorry I missed out when I had the opportunities with family members who knew machines. That old guy in the video is a treasure of knowledge.
Agree, fortunately I learn most of my mechanical acknoledge from my dad, he passed away 15 years ago, I still remember him everytime i got into a repair, in some sense he is still teaching me.
If you think of learning how to fix machine parts then it's done and dusted bro. You just need to do it few times and you will be okay. But the real challenge is of the engineers who design, build and calculates everything before putting all together in the machine.
Wat een prachtig project en niets uitbesteed maar gewoon alles zelf doen, respect voor Dhr. Jans!! Hoeveel mensen in de wereld weten nog hoe je zo'n houten wiel opbouwt...
Wheels a little wobbly, but at 114 years old I would expect to be a little wobbly as well! Great job and so lucky to uncover the old girl before she became toast!
Spyker, never heard or seen any of these. But when they say hand-built that is what they did exactly. Simply amazing craftsmanship. And what a beauty traveling down the road with his lady taking her to the show. Awesome.
Geweldig om dit vakwerk en liefde voor de Spijker te mogen aanschouwen. dit is onbetaalbare kennis die helaas gedoemd is uit te sterven. Wie wil of kan dit per uur nog betalen. Super dat er weer een spijker vd sloopt en ondergang is gered. it could not have been done better . enjoy
one of the most absorbing and educative videos on RUclips. The skills on display : mechanical engineering, detailing, woodworking and finishing makes me envious !!
lacossa - actually no, in the USA these are master craftsmen. Engineers require a four year BS degree from a University. Not that I don't have the utmost respect for these guys and am, as an Engineer, very very jealous of their skills!
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost my account password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Por favor, eso es a lo que le llamo una verdadera "Restauración", maestros en varios campos para lograr ese trabajo final de forma artesanal, como los primeros constructores de automóviles. Felicitaciones!!!!❤👏👏
Incredible job ! Beautiful....You men are true artists..and the engine sounded so nice ! Anything...Anything... can be restored with hard work, great technicians, and lots and lots of money. Loved it. Matt
This was a professional restoration, it had nothing to do with D.I Y.(do it yourself). What it shows is that with plenty of money, little is impossible.
Luckystrike 3 months ago, I spoke to a wheelwright, asking about a price for a pair, as I am building a cannon. We had a long chat and he said that the trade goes back into antiquity. And the principle of build today is as basic as back then. Oh, the price to have two 30" wheels hand made? Well, only spare change out of $5,000.
@@230WIM Thank you so much. You men are so professional and your restoration work resulted in a truely beautiful car. You all should be so proud of your work. A true treasure saved, hopefully for the next few hundred years.

Amazing stuff, thank you for the video and the restoration, which was great to watch.
What immense fun! Like a giant jigsaw puzzle for retired engineers. Bring back the Meccano Set 😯
Mechanics, not engineers!
in UK and USA they call people like this mechanical engineers !!

Luckystrike
No argument out of that. But, I meant that it wasn't a machine operation.
nifty1940
Yes, lots of hand work and old school craftsmanship. Probably how it was built in 1906, by hand.

Depending on where you're located you might try to find an Amish wheelwright.
What type of cannon?
Brass? Iron? A muzzle loader I assume.
I also love the IFA F9 in the background
Svaka cast ljudi, napravili ste ga ko novog!!!
I wish this had English subtitles, but great video. Those wheels looked like 1800 wagon wheels. What great MASTER CRAFTSMEN !
I have added the english text

That oldman is insane, in the good way. At his age is still working better the the young mens today.
Andries has a verry strong spirit, if he can and his wife let him he works 5 day a week.
