What an amazing story, especially how it was accidentally Broadcasted Live!
Being broadcasted live via radio, truly made watching the play by play way more interesting and accurate! Thanks guys for a great job!
But unfortunately, I feel I know whomever the bomber was...
Although I was very young, I do have an amazing long term memory...
This Robber/Bomber resembles this Drifter guy that my Mom (a Foster Mom to many, so what's 1 more head in the house) allowed to board in our basement back in the late 60's, at 4707 Manor Street in Vancouver/Burnaby. I remember him having to board because of something to do with him needing an Address.
I think it was for working purposes!?
And then, a few years later after we (my family) moved away from Manor Street, oddly I spotted him again along the Beach at Panorama Park in Deep Cove North Vancouver. I remember begging him to come to our house for dinner up on Cliffwood Drive so that he could see my Mom and family again. As a kid, I was really happy because he ended up accepting the invitation and he ended up not just staying for dinner and a visit, but he stayed for a couple of days.
This man always went by the name of Tom Connor or Connors, but it wasn't until I was much older that I realized there was another Tom Connors, a famous Canadian singer songwriter being that of the legendary "Stompin Tom Connors".
Once I realized there's now 2 Tom Connors, I often wondered if this Drifter, who called himself Tom Connor/Connors, really was a Tom Connors at all??
Anyway, while we lived on Manor Street in the late 60's, and with this Tom Connors boarding in our basement, even tho I was as a child under the age of 10, I do recall him being kinda Mysterious! And, he didn't like to talk too too much.
He was quite Private as well in the things that he did; coming to and fro while always carrying a black bag!
I do recall 1 time where he even had all these "papers" laid out on his bed. Funny, because this was something that I hadn't thought about since...
But now, after watching W5 and with myself being Decades Older, I'm now starting to wonder IF all these "papers" that I seen laid out on his bed, IF they might have been money bills??
After all, I was just a little kid and I didn't go right into his room, just kinda within the door frame...
Now I'm thinking, Why would someone have all these "papers" spread out and laid all over his bed??
I'm also starting to wonder IF there were any unsolved Robberies back then in the mid to late 60's within the Vancouver/Burnaby area??
Yikes!!! I really do hope I'm wrong, because as mysterious as this Drifter was, he was a nice guy, at least to me and my family...
Anyway, I'm super thankful that nobody else perished in this 1973 Bank Robbery!
Hopefully Canada can solve this mystery of: The Unknown Bank Robber who blew himself up at his own game...

I know someone from Kenora who'd never heard of this. I don't think the younger generations know about it.

The cop acted pretty stupid shooting a man with a live bomb, not considering all those people there.
