Fantastic video Valerie! I love the forests we get here in Australia, however they can be challenging at times to capture in an image. You did outstanding, your images that captured that stunning light were gorgeous. The video was beautifully, music, forest scenes, drone footage all worked well together. Welcome to the landscape photography community here on RUclips, it’s great to have another Aussie! 🇦🇺👍
I have been a huge fan of your work and your channel for quite awhile Andrew!!! Thanks so much for your feedback, support and warm welcome 😊 Not a lot of Aussies here, but I'm in great company!
Your reasons for landscape photography are why I enjoy the experience - an escape to nature away from the day job which can at times be stressful and a passion to explore the landscape and great exercise from hiking. Look forward to your next adventures 🙂
Hello from Arizona! Nice to find your channel Valerie as I have always been interested in Australia, such a dynamic landscape. I think your off to a good start with your vlog. You have a unique story to be told it's unique because well so are you. Adding in personal insight into your channel makes it special. Good luck and keep up the good work. If ever you find yourselves in the U.S. make sure to come it out west and you and your husband would be more than welcome.
Hi Robert, thanks heaps for your kind comments and offer! Yes, we've got some pretty dynamic landscapes here - hopefully you'll get a chance to see it in person one day. I've seen some amazing landscape photos from Arizona. Beautiful place!
Hi Valerie, discovered your channel just yesterday and I am hooked. Excellent video and commentary. The Aussie bush is so hard to photograph well. But you have the eye and knack for it. I am inspired to go out and create (to borrow your word) more photos. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Leslie, I'm glad you found my channel and thanks a lot for your kind comments and feedback! 🙏🙏 Yes, the chaos in our woodlands, forests and bushland can make for challenging compositions. But there is great fun and lots of learning to be had in the trial and error process 😄 Please do get out there and enjoy creating your images!

Great video Valerie. I am also currently in a motivational and inspirational slump. I think I need to create a landscape project plan and book day trips around Melbourne - so many places out there to take my Fuji kit

Stellar video. The inspiration part can be hard at times. I can always be inspired in nature, in an old European village or in some exotic Middle-Eastern or Asian location. But how about an American suburb full of tract homes, a neighborhood full of shopping malls and new apartment buildings and parking lots, or an office park? That is not quite as easy. I saw another video the other day, where the photographer thought of such places as an "urban forest". Maybe that would help. And skilled painters claim that everything is just a collection of shapes and colors. Walking around in nature, taking meditative photos, is still the best, though.
I hear you Thomas, and thanks for your comments. It's definitely not easy finding inspiration and your surroundings can have a big influence. As you've pointed out, it's about your mindset and perspective. I like the urban forest approach! I think it's much easier to will ourselves to do anything if we try to see the upside and focus on what we can (rather than can't) work with 🙂
Thanks Richard 🙂 Yes, I shoot in manual most of the time as the light and scenes don't usually change so fast that I can't dial in my settings in time, and I prefer to have full control of my exposure. The only time when it's not 100% manual is if I use auto exposure bracketing. But shooting in aperture priority is also quite popular as a compromise between auto and manual. Do you have a preference?
Do you add sunburst during editing when shooting with aperture set at f8? With nikon lenses I have to stop down to around f16 to f22 with a lens that has 7 or 9 aperture blades to get nice 14 or 18 point sunbursts in camera.
Hi Willapa, the sunburst captured in my woodland shot was natural. Surprisingly, it came out ok at f8. The light happened to hit my lens at the right angle. Same as you, I'd usually have to stop down to at least f16 for sunbursts, with f22 producing the best defined flares on my wide angle lenses.
Love your piccies!!! And, a great video, well edited and put together. Love your local forest!!! Like your attitude towards photography and landscape pics, in particular. If you're looking for some challenges to spice things up, why not try medium and/or large format film photography. It'll be a change from digital!! It'll slow you down even more when you're out looking for pics and if you learn how to develop your film, it'll make you appreciate your shots even more. Especially when they turn out really good :)
Thanks Carl for viewing and supporting 🙂 I'd definitely like to try medium format one day, and learn film in time. I'm sure it'll be a challenge! But I've barely scratched the surface with digital and I think the weight/bulk that I need to carry on long walks/hikes is a key consideration for me.
That's where you need to do your research before you decide to try it out. There are a great many medium format film cameras you can use but not all of them will suit you or your style. You can start out in 35mm film and see how that works out, then move onto 120 once you've got some experience under your belt. The Nikon F series film cameras make good cameras for landscape and other photo styles. Minolta and Pentax also make good cameras, too. And, don't forget Olympus, especially if you're looking for light and easy to carry. When you're ready to have a go, what you might like to do is borrow some gear and try it out. That way, you can see what you like and don't like before you commit to something of your own.
Yes, always research first. Thanks for the heads up on where to start. I'd only considered Fuji but it's good to know there is some choice and healthy competition in this space. Sounds like these are your preferred formats? Agree - given the costs, better to try before you buy 👍

Another great video! I dropped your name with Kim Grant of Photographic Connection to possibly be a guest on her podcast/channel. This could make for a very well deserved boost to your channel...
Hello Jon, thanks so much for your kind words and support - I really do appreciate it 🙏😊 I was so pleasantly surprised to see a DM from Kim! I've been a follower of her channel for some time and totally empathise with her love for nature. I would love and would be honoured to join the podcast. Let's see how we go 🤞🤷💙
@@ValerieMisaPhotography Awesome! I hope to see you two having a chat in the not so distant future.

Had to chuckle about being taller. Maybe find a lite weight step stool that can safely support you......?
Enjoying your videos! Thank you Valerie, for sharing your time and passion with us :)
Are you on Instagram?
Many thanks Stach for watching and your kind comments 🙏🙏 There's so much to love about landscape photography that it's difficult not to share! Really glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
