I got the dual voltage tester from Milwaukee down at Home Depot. It was pretty handy, since it was unclear to me which breaker I needed. I made a mistake with plumbing lately, so I was less overconfident than I normally am. Got the power off, switched out a broken light switch. Now the cover fits kind of funny, but the light switch is good. No shocking myself today. Sometimes I worry that I am just a sucker for certain brands, glad that you find the one I bought to be actually a standout. Thanks for the effort.

So if is yellow even after turning off the power on the breaker is it still safe to change my light switch?

@@XVIII7 When I had the cover off, power on, I got a red light and a loud noise. When I turned power off, I did not get a yellow. Because I could tell a big difference, I could tell power was off. You could get a voltmeter, if you want to check what the voltage is. $30-50 is a lot cheaper than getting hurt. If you are wearing gloves or something, it can change how well the tester works. I would NOT say that it is safe at yellow. But I am not there to test. I would compare the tester on something I know is hot. Compare with breaker on. Compare with breaker off. It should be a clear difference. If it is close to something else that is on, I might turn that off too(flip off more breakers).

So I was wearing gloves. I retested when the break was on and it give red. turned it back off and it gave yellow. I took took the chance and it worked. I was able to change my outlet safely and was able to fix my issue. Thanks for your quick response!
